my friend has a nook color is there any way that this would be any sort of update for her?? I have already ordered her an IPAD2 but think that if a Fire was worth it then I can just get that and she can get something else..

Gamasutra.
Did you turn on "install unauthorized appear" option? Never happened to me.
It's installed. I can run it and you can see the title screen running behind the error dialog. But tapping on the button to clear the error shuts down the app. :(

I guess the game doesn't allow transfer between devices, the only thing "might" work is to install android market and get the app from there, but that needs you to root the fire.

No. It's basically Amazon's answer to the Nook Color and has worse specs than the Nook Color 2 (the Nook Tablet)

And holy crap, I wish I had friends that gave me $600 presents. Hell, I wish I had had parents like that.

:( That's what I was afraid of. No, not up for rooting a Kindle Fire yet.

Thanks.

Yeah the box thing screwed me over too :/ It was my Christmas present from my Mm and GF. The dogs were barking so I answered the door and it was the UPS guy with my Fire.

I had to tell them I couldnt just play dumb :(

My Fire automatically updated to 6.2.1 today. It adds "Restrictions" in the settings. You can set up a password to turn on WiFi. Not sure if there are any other changes.

I know this question has been beaten to death. But I'm looking at taking a Kindle Fire(picked up 1 for me also) overseas to give to a family member. From what I've seen the country is recognized by Amazon(Ecuador) but do you think I'll have any issues setting it up for them? I know they won't be able to stream movies/music.

I see that mine has updated. So far I've noticed that you can lock the rotation.
Always could.

I wonder what this update adds. If only there were a commonly used and already established concept of release notes whenever a patch is released to give people a heads-up on what has changed.

edit: just checked and I'm pretty sure my version number is the same one that I noticed on Saturday: 6.2_user_3003020

You guys really expect something major in this update? Isn't they just pushed one out right after the launch? I think the CEO(?)'s word need to taken with a grain of salt. A minor one if anything.

I honestly have no idea what to expect. It could be as vague as a PSP changelog but anything would be appreciated.

I think part of the reason they don't want to release notes is because then you would start seeing more "it took X number of updates to get a working product" kinds of flaming rhetoric.

I don't even know what I really want/need. They can't magically add hardware buttons or move the power button to the side. A way to organize the carousel would be nice, though I don't mind showing "recently opened" item on my frontpage -- it's actually kinda convenient. I am pretty happy for what it is now. I've been watching a ton of TV shows and movies on it -- online or shared from my old laptop. Playing carcassonne on it is also delightful. Oh, I also love its rubber back.

If you have a paid prime account. I dont think student/discounted accounts have instant movies. You could watch it on a fire or roku. Not sure about ipad.

On the Fire, yes. The selection isn't that hot, though.

Netflix looks fine on the Fire. Not max resolution but better than I expected.

I'm also surprised at the quality of polygonal graphics this thing is able to output. I expected much less from this device than what I got, especially considering the price tag.

How is netflix streaming on the fire?

Generally ok, every once and awhile I get a stuttering problem. Just one or two crashes. The resolution is pretty meh.

EDIT:
am I mistaken or are the twitter options here just the mobile website? I see only one twitter app with decent reviews.

I use Seesmic, and Tweetcaster has a good rating as well. I do wish Tweetdeck was on the Fire though.

I'm getting one of these as a gift for a tween brother and sister to share(so 1 can play the wii and the other watch Netflix/play games). Is it possible to set up 2 individual email accounts with passwords with the built in email app? The only issues I see them having is screwing around with each others email.

Did you just sideload Carcassone?

Also how well does sideloading work with paid apps? Like there is a risk clone on the android app store called drisk for example

No updates on my Kindle yet.

I'd really like for Netflix to update their app though. My Amazon Prime videos stream fine, quality is decent. Turn on Netflix, and frequent stutters, and the streaming quality isn't even close to the clarity through Prime videos.

I'm sure Netflix will update their app. Its obvious that its not a hardware issue, as like I've said, other streaming with other apps is fine. Its only w/ Netflix.

My Netflix app updated on the Fire this past week. I have had my Fire since it launched ...

Any ideas for a good podcast-listening app either on the Amazon appstore or one that would be easy to sideload for someone whose only Android device is a fire?

What I would like: must work offline. I want to listen to podcasts on my commute. Auto-deletes podcasts after I listen, auto updates subscribed podcasts when app is opened (or when user initiates). Would like to be able to play podcasts at 2x speed. Any ideas?

You may want to check stitcher for podcast playback, not sure about the 2x speed-up though.

My Kindle updated earlier today. Seems to be a lot faster than before.

Netflix also ran a lot smoother.

Got my update. Is the Application Storage listing new?

That's convenient, although it's kind of disappointing that you only get just over 1 gigs for applications.

Also, I finally used ES File Explorer to figure out where a big chunk of my storage space had gone. I had nearly 900MB in a GameLoft data folder. WTF. How is a normal person supposed to get rid of that? I'm fairly sure I moved all my GameLoft apps to the cloud, and told them to remove data at the same time. :p

Anyone know how long they are taking to ship right now? I ordered one 2 days ago and it hasn't shipped. I might need to find one in a retail story just in case since its a xmas gift.

I ordered one as a gift on Monday and it was just delivered now. Use the online help to have Amazon give you call about it.

I may have just made a stupid mistake. I gave my wife a Fire for her birthday this morning. It's tied to my Amazon account, as our both of our Kindles so we can share libraries. Anyway, I left it for her to play with today while I'm at work, but I'm guessing as soon as she goes into the store that the browsing history is going to show the Christmas gifts I've purchased and browsed for, which will spoil half of what I got her.

Does your web-based browsing show up on the Kindle Fire? If so, how do you avoid Christmas, Mother's Day, and birthday spoilers each year?

just got a Fire yesterday, i dont get the complaints with the browser. it seemed smooth and quick. I'm really digging it

Yep, seems to be the status quo. For a $200 tablet, its amazing.

Check out KindleFireWire if you're looking to do more w/ the tablet. Some great videos on there.
