Not sure if this has been covered already:

I bought the gameloft game Order And Chaos and the main app is only a few MB in size. This app then proceeds to download over 600MB of game data. Then you try to log in and fail because the game requires an updated game app that hasn't been pushed out on the Amazon App store yet.

So I went to uninstall the game and I find that it uninstalls the main program but not the 600+MB of game data. So...how the hell do I fully delete this app?

I had the same issue with Asphalt 6. But when I loaded up ES File Explorer, I saw the rest of the files that were loaded, and deleted the folder. Took care of the other 900MB of data that was downloaded.

ES File Explorer is on the Amazon App store? Or did you side load that?

Edit: Found it (it's on the Amazon App store, btw) and cleaned up the data. Thanks for the help, nemss!

Anytime,

Also, its great for adding on sideloaded apps as well. You can just install them from the ES File Explorer program.

I don't have any other Android devices, and from what I understand those are required to sideload onto a Fire.

You don't need another android device to sideload.

I just copy the .apk to a folder on my desktop (named it downloaded apps), then plug in the Kindle Fire to my PC, and on my Kindle Fire, I created a folder called "sideloaded apps", and then I just drag and drop the .apk into that folder on my Kindle Fire. I then load up ES File Explorer, select the folder, the .apk, and install it.

You don't even need the ES explorer. I just put the apk on dropbox, download it on the Fire natively, and it just installs on the spot.

I never tried it this way, but I just installed a volume control app, and it worked.

Thanks for the heads up.

How does this compare in functionality compared to other tabs like the galaxy or iPad? What's the internal storage? I'm thinking about getting my first tablet soon and this one has caught my eye, but I'm not sure which one to go with. I like the price on this one.

It's a bit like a stripped down Galaxy and nothing like an iPad. Mine is growing on me as a reader though. My main complaint now is battery life. It drains while asleep way more than my other stuff. Also, no camera, no physical buttons may annoy you and the UI is hilarious.

But it's $200 which more than makes up for some of the failings.

Got a Kindle Fire for Christmas and I'm looking for some apps outside of Twitter, Google Reader, and Tech Cruncher. I mainly use the device as a eReader/RSS Reader and would like more apps that work like Tech Cruncher when it comes to pulling interesting stories from the internet.

Sucks about the battery buy I could deal with it. How's the screen? Multitouch? Gorilla glass?

I got my son a cheap tablet for xmas as a test and its screen is terribly unresponsive.

Multitouch yes, gorilla glass I think yes, it's sturdy as shit and very heavy. Has a useful shock absorbing rubber bezel too and the rubberized back helps with grip. Also it's only going to get better. The UI and apps support are bound to get way better than the current decent situation.

I'm currently waiting for the UK release for this, and I'll be getting one right away to replace the aging HP ipaq pda I currently use to read ebooks.

All the googly news I see about it hints at a release in January 2012, and I've seen reports saying it'll be £100, others saying it'll be £190. I'd be fine paying around the 150 mark for it.

Cool thanks for the info. Sounds like a decent little device for the money.

Keep going back and forth in my head.

Fire or Touch? Touch or Fire?!

I have both and I use them for different purposes. The Touch is strictly for reading books, and the Fire for surfing the web, watching netflix, listening to music, looking at pictures, and playing Android games. I tried reading on the Kindle Fire but it is much too heavy and the screen will cause eye strain really quick, although your tolerance for bright screens might be higher than mine. If you really want both, why don't you get the $80 Kindle 4G and the Fire, and amazing combo if you ask me.

I don't know if this has been answered here or elsewhere, but what's the deal the Kindle Fire "exclusive" Graphic novels? So if I download The Dark Knight Returns or V for Vendetta for my Kindle desktop app, it won't load properly?

Gamasutra.

Don't know, but I wouldn't trust the desktop app to do anything but what the e-reader Kindles do.

And, really, you can't do the same on the desktop version anyway. Mine won't do magazine subscriptions. :p

ProTip: If you're gonna do the graphic novel route, go for collections in the comic app as the graphic novels in the bookstore do poor panel by panel zooms.

Interesting. I'm weakly interested in them, but I didn't realize there were other options. Thanks.

I picked up Long Halloween last night. Panel by Panel is awesome to use.

Between that and going through Walking Dead and picking up Superman and Batman on the new 52, my Kindle Fire is getting a ton of use!

Is Walking Dead in the Kindle Store or Comics App?

I would also like to add that Y, the Last Man looks great on the Fire.

I've been getting each volume of Walking Dead through the comics app. I'm curious where he got The Long Halloween. I do with Y and Hellblazer had compilations though, I hate managing individual issues.

Walking Dead is in the Comics app. Invincible looks great on the fire, too.

So how would I go about loading the following two apps onto my Kindle Fire?

Long Halloween I got on the Kindle Comics store, in the bookstore. I believe it was $9.99. Walking Dead I'm reading those through the XComics app.

Gattsu:

For the files you are looking for, just download the .apk to your desktop, then plug in your Fire to the PC, and drag them into the Kindle Fire. Thats it, then when you load up your Kindle Fire, they should be under the apps icon, and you need to install. I use ES File Explorer anyway, just so I can keep all of my sideloaded apps in one place.

Here is a quick tutorial . He uses Easy Installer, which is another app like ES File Explorer. They all do the same thing basically, so you can choose which one you'd rather use.

aardwolf's .apk is on this site:

Onlive:

(.apk is on the bottom of the page)

The last one you have to purchase, so I'm not sure how to load that, other than loading the Android Market on the Fire. I'm not sure if discussing rooting is against the rules, but if it is not, I can point you in the direction to root your Fire.

So there's no way to install a downloaded an app from the Android Marketplace without rooting the Kindle? I don't want to go that route

I didn't know about the .apk, though. Thanks for the info. Now I just need to find my micro-USB cable

As long as you have the .apk you can install it to the fire. The free ones are easy enough, you just have to search for the. apk. Xda forums are a great source for a lot of the free .apk files.

Id highly recommend the Dolphin HD browser, a lot faster than Amazons stock browser.

Anyone have any battery tips? I am lucky if the thing lasts three hours of READING.
Check running apps and shut down any downloaded apps that you don't need. Lower the screen brightness to the lowest (I find it is still too bright at that setting). Turn off wifi (I always leave this one).

DietRob

i've been begging for over 5 years.
Maybe someone on GAF will know the answer to this question.

I rooted my Kindle Fire and installed CyanogenMod 7 (it's working perfectly BTW!!)

However, can I also have a Kindle Fire Launcher as one of the desktop icons and switch to that interface by pressing it? I seem to remember seeing a video of someone doing just that. I can't for the life of me find it now. Maybe I'm imagining it.

Basically:

If you had the ICS Launcher, you could switch back and forth between the two OS's.

I think if you install CM7, you lose that ability.

You also lose Amazon Prime videos, but there are workarounds for that.

I'm really enjoying my fire on the commute to and from work. Reading it on the train is a breeze. It does sometimes feel a bit heavy when I'm sitting cramped up with people around me and not too much room to adjust, but it's worth it to have tons of books on one device.

The display is very nice and I love the form factor. An ipad is way way too big for what I want. Battery life is solid for the amount of use I put into it on a daily basis. If it ever becomes a concern I'll just charge it at work.

Yeah I love it too for what I use it for. The one single issue I have with it is the weight, my fingers hurt after holding it a little.

I hope a case with a back handle will be able to fix that since I could just rely on my arm then. Did anyone buy one of those here? If so, how does it feel? Especially combined with having to tap to turn pages and the like.

Edit: thinking about this one

I heard that the ICS launcher is not always too stable. Do you have any links for the process? If not I guess I can search around for it.

I don't give a rats ass about Amazon Prime videos. But it is good to know that there are workarounds if it ever becomes relevant.

Here is a youtube video on how to load ICS Launcher. It takes under a minute.

I have read reports of it bricking some people's Fire's though, so just an FYI before loading. You can recover the Fire, but it is a long process to do so.

Thanks for the link. I actually found this before I came back to this tab. This really makes me wish that I didn't go through the gigantic process of rooting my fire and installing CM7. If I would have know I could have just downloaded a APK on a website right from the fire I would have saved myself all kinds of time.
