Kojima: Metal Gear Rising is selling well worldwide

How is Raiden in Rising, hated him in MGS4 and while he had his faults in MGS2 he was also integral to the story and its themes.

I actually liked Raiden a bit more here than I did in MGS4.

Regarding the camera - I'm a broken record at this point but I didn't think it was that bad, and if you use the lock on mechanic you can dance around some of the other issues. I had more frustrations with the DmC camera due to a lack of lock on and not having it automatically go where I needed.

I'm glad this game is selling well and I hope it keeps up (and doesn't drop off like a rock like DmC's sales did). Hopefully we get a sequel :)

Also, I'm in the camp that says no Gray Fox game. They'd have to dial down the 'crazy' and I think that would be a detriment to the game. One of my favorite things about MGR is how crazy everything is! Suplexing a giant Wild Wild West spider Metal Gear that's piloted by Super Mike Haggar was fantastic.

Really great news. Now I can really get pumped for Metal Gear Rising 2: Revengeance With a Vengeance.

since we're playing this game, I'd like the Rising series to play like a Bond movie (tuxedo wearing Raiden is best Raiden).

every new game with a new love interest.
every new game with a new, themed, speciality
new gadgets, weapons etc...

over the fucking top locations and bad guys.

a Wolf playing the Felix Leiter role

Metal Gear Rising : The Cyborg who cut me
Metal Gear Rising : You only revengeance twice
Metal Gear Rising : Thundercut

etc...

the episode directed by Kamiya would mark the series 10th anniversary when the series switches to a femme fatale protagonist.

Raiden has come a long way from naked cartwheels.

If you would have told me ten years ago that Raiden from MGS2 would someday be on the same tier of badass as Classic Dante or Ryu Hayabusa I would have laughed hysterically.

Now Raiden can make robot stilettos not look stupid.

hopefully platinum's contract for this game had some bonuses in it if they meet certain sales goals
they deserve it. especially considering they fucking cranked the game out in like a year

MGS 2 Raiden is the best, most fleshed out, most interesting, most creative character in the entire franchise.

Rising simply took the badass ninja route to its inevitable conclusion, using the childhood soldier backstory, established in 2.

In 4 I actually enjoyed how relatively "quiet" he was. I just assumed at that point that this was his "child soldier" coming out in the form of this cyborg.

Could this end up being Platinum's highest selling game so far? Off the top of my head, only Bayonetta sold 1mil, right?

Tomorrow is the moment of truth in Japan. We should be getting the first week sales for Rising in 21 hours. Really hope it does well. :D

MGS2 Raiden was a whiny, sulking annoyance. It didn't help that his entire backstory was explained in a hamfisted monologue towards the end of the game.

GuardianE describes Raiden not realizing that's how Kojima perceived MGS players.

It's funny because I played through MGS2 recently and Raiden's "whining" was so completely overblown in 2001. He barely whines at all, and the way that they trick you with the "oh of course he's naive and inexperienced, look at him," to revealing that he's actually kind of way more brutal and screwed up than Solid Snake is great.

How did the previous Metal Gear games fair?

outsold by Bayonetta, really DmC

also, I kinda want to play some MGS now, and by that I mean I want to play MGS3 again. Hope that Xbox sale is good.

Uh oh. 2001 just called, it wants its bellyaching back.

Huh? I never really complained back then. I still don't really care all that much today. Just because I don't like MGS2 Raiden as a character for legitimate reasons, I have a chip on my shoulder?

That's all well and fine. Like I said, I never really complained, I just didn't like it. I don't think I'm in the minority there, either.

Raiden whined in most of his codec conversations. Maybe it was just his voice or tone, but he seemed to pout with every order he was given. And his conversations with Rose were atrocious. It's just a stark contrast to the character people were used to playing as- someone who was battle hardened and came from experience. And one of the main problems that I had with Raiden's "twisted" background is that it's literally explained in a quick monologue at the end of the game... no, I'm sorry, but that doesn't automatically subvert everything that I know about the character after listening to him for the past 10 hours.

For the record, I think that casting Raiden as the protagonist of MGS2 was a very bold move, and I do respect it to a degree. I just didn't like how his character was depicted.

You didn't really give a legitimate reason with that statement though. It's the same tired knee-jerk reaction from 2001, hence my comment. 'He's whiny' doesn't really amount to much of anything, and that's assuming one buys the complaint to begin with; I certainly don't. If anything Raiden began questioning every order he was given as the game drug on. As for the rest, the only time he really sulks is after he finds out he's been talking to an AI for the majority of his first mission and that most his adult life has been a lie.

Now that you mention it though, it probably would have been pretty cool to play a flashback of a kid killing random soldiers in Africa with no context until he gets locked up at the end of the game.

Even Snake kind of pointed out "Hey, you've had it pretty rough kid, here's a sword."

Hell, speaking on that, 'Snake' is more sulky than Raiden is. Big Boss especially.

It's not knee-jerk. I played the entire game. And yes, he came off as whiny to me. Apparently I'm not the only one. We'll just have to disagree, but he was complaining a lot even before he realized that he was being manipulated.

And no, Snake and Big Boss didn't seem whiny to me. They got pissed and demanded answers. It's all about tone, and Raiden's tone struck me as obnoxious. You may not agree, but that doesn't invalidate my interpretation.

Yeah that's pretty much the entire premise of PO and PW

Big Boss sulks after the Boss died before stealing some other people's ideas to start Outer Heaven

I'll consider anything above 200k a success.

"Selling well worldwide so far" sounds so...lukewarm. It almost comes across as Koji saying it broke even. Especially when he says IF there's a sequel. Bah, I'm probably just reading too far into it.

What's the highest first week debut for a character action game? I know one of the Onimusha games would take the cake. But in terms of the combo heavy stuff like DMC, where does MGR rank?
