Just want to point out that both wormholes and zombies were in Kojima's MGS V.

Though not even he was crazy enough to have an alternate reality.

The payoff for this game is that you get to see the TX-55 Metal Gear from the original game in fox engine as the final boss.

transported through wormholes into an alternate universe, where they’re forced to battle a force of crystalline zombies and, it seems, at least one Metal Gear itself.

Yeah the description sounds ridiculous but "zombies" and wormholes aren't too unbelievable considering MGSV. Still, Co-op Zombie games aren't exactly my cup of tea but I'll keep my eye on it.

there's something fitting about Konami's half-assed first attempt at cobbling together a Metal Gear game post-Kojima being a zombie game

I rather they'd taken those god tier mechanics and put them into a more classic MGS campaign, à la MGS1/MGS3. Something a bit more generic without Kojima no doubt, but with more narrative thrust than the last 2 MGS games.

This is......something. Not sure who asked for it, or who the audience will be.

members of Militaires Sans Frontières not killed in that game’s finale transported through wormholes into an alternate universe, where they’re forced to battle a force of crystalline zombies

Ah c'mon now

This proves that Konami is still interested in continuing the MGS franchise, which I take as a good thing. They are taking a weird direction with this one, but considering it's just been a year since the release of MGS5 I'm not sure why anyone would expect them to announce anything different than something that fits into the "weird spin-off" category. (MGS's story was alyways "fascinatingly stupid" to me, so it really doesn't matter to me that story-wise they are moving in this rather weird direction)

The remaining questions are a) how many of the designers of MGS5 have left Konami and b) is Konami also interested in doing a proper MGS"6"? MGS5 was a brilliant game and if the people responsible for its gameplay are still at Konami, then I'm definitely interested in what they're able to do next.

You know what would be legitimately hilarious? If this game, in spite of its premise, ended up being one of the greatest co-op games of all time. Aaaaaah who am I kidding #FucKonami

Don't really get the bad feedback. I mean, the idea is crazy but it's not like it's something that wouldn't fit the Metal Gear universe really (as a spin-off like Rising). Visually it looks nice, the music is nice and the gameplay could potentially be quite fun if they keep it close to how MGSV plays.

If Kojima were involved in this, more people would be hyped. Kojima himself isn't the only person working on the game, and dismissing this title because it's made by Konami themselves is kinda insulting to the actual developers working on this :/

One of the only sane comments in this thread. Give the game a chance people.

Welp this is not what I was expecting, they are legitimately making Kojima's material look sane.

I have so many mixed feeling right now, but I expect this to be terrible. I hope I'm wrong, but I'd rather play it safe.

I guess after Konami saw the raging success that was Umbrella Corps they decided they needed a piece of that sweet, sweet pie.

Fuck Konami.

RIP Metal Gear series.

If by "how it plays' you just mean the controls and gunplay then sure.

That's not really what made MGS5's gameplay interesting though. Without the open maps and varied stealth tactics it sort of becomes a pretty boring TPS.

What an absolute slap in the face to Kojima's legacy and the fans. Just when you think "Okay, THIS is as bad as it gets - Konami can't possibly do anything more to make themselves seem like the bad guy" - they shit out this trash.

Complete disgrace and fundamental misunderstanding of the IP and fan expectations.

Okay, now that the shock's worn off, I think I'm interested, but not hopeful. Given that the seeds for this ridiculous shit were planted in MGSV and it releases next year, I can see this having been in the works since before the Kojima v Konami shit, which makes it not as weird. It still feels SUPER out of left field though. Also, the fact that it's not Metal Gear Solid and is more of a Rising type deal has me interested, though coop makes almost all that goodwill fly right out the door. If I can play it solo, no problem, I'll keep my eye on it. If not, I'm out.

Not particularly interested at this point. Need to see how the survival and potential resource gathering is implemented on the existing mechanics. Nice to know that they haven't left the engine or the universe to die though. Please, please don't become a cheap cash cow.

I'm not a Metal Gear/Kojima fan, so excuse my ignorance, but I can't understand the reactions in this thread. This is the same universe where Metal Gear Rising is based in, if I understand correctly. This game has a single cyborg human cutting down building-sized robots with one swing of a sword, also a man enhanced by nanomachines and able to withstand direct hits with that same sword and beating the mentioned human cyborg into a pulp with his bare hands, but somehow wormholes and alternate reality is too much and doesn't fit in the universe?
