Kotaku is concerned that Dragon Age: Veilguard was snubbed for the TGA and if you disagree, they have a few choice words for you

From The article:

"Inevitably, there will be those who say The Veilguard wasn't snubbed and that it just didn't deserve recognition. Pushing aside the bad-faith transphobic and racist nonsense that's been surrounding the games for months, there's a discussion to be had there. It is, without a doubt, one of the more divisive gamesin BioWare's catalog. But anyone who thinks its timing didn't play a factor in its complete absence is kidding themselves, and this kind of fundamental failing will affect games you like just as much as ones you don't one day. Justice for Gareth David-Lloyd, you deserved a Best Performance nod for your work as Solas."

fwiw considering the game's reviews and the praise it got on these types of sites, I am somewhat surprised it didn't get more recognition.

Even the TGA knew those reviews were Astroturfed to high heaven. Judging by steamdb it doesn't have much stopping power either.

They still haven't learned from all that's transpired this past month. The shaming tactics no longer work. In fact all it's doing now is making people double down on the push back.

Don't get it twisted, the Game Awards are marketing. They nominate in late November and have the show in early December to nudge holiday sales of the most marketable games of the year.

That said, it's the games media that makes up the jury that decides the nominations. Not even they could honestly put Failguard forward, even in this year. Kotaku is screeching as they lose more and more influence.

Oh fuck off Kotaku, the game was average and let down by poor character writing and dialog. It doesn't deserve any GotY nomination.

Yeah... no. The game just does not deserve to be mentioned in the GOTY discussion. This has nothing to do with its LGBTQ themes and more to do with the fact that its just not an amazing game. I mean, even IGN and a few other outlets backtracked on their own reviews and complained that the story was written poorly and that the game is very light on RPG elements. It looks like a decent action game but certainly not one of the best games of the year. Bear in mind I am only speaking from a critical point of view, as I am sure there are some who acknowledge its flaws but are still having more fun with it than anything else released this year.

The only notable thing about Veilguard is the creepy, inappropriate gender nonsense. If it wasn't for that, it would be a shitty sequel to a once loved franchise. It is trash, and Kotaku are a garbage outlet who won't exist in 18 months.

On one side you have butt hurt people claiming DA was snubbed for culture shenanigans. On the other side you have butt hurt people claiming the same about whatever the name of that generic action game with lots of tits and ass is called. Fight!

I guess... Dragon Age The Vailguard made me transphobic. because if Tassh is an authentic and nuance representation of those kind of people....

Good job at hurting the LGBTQP+ movement... clowns.

Kotaku is a Japanese expression meaning "lonely" or "alone." It is derived from the verb kotaeru, which means "to be alone." The term is often used to describe people who feel isolated from society and lack a sense of belonging.

I read the article and its a fair point. Games released too close or after the Game Awards in November and December don't get a fair shot.

Lets talk about all the games that have been shafted by this!

Oh my mistake. Its just a Veilguard ad.

Hey, don't talk about Zenless Zone Zero like that.

Wouldn't it be the other way around?
Usually there's a bit of a bias in favor of more recent games since everyone should still be high on the excitement of the "honey moon phase", while the hype and excitement about games that released 6 months ago has cooled off and people have had more time to think about it in a more critical way. We see it all the time in forums, look at the overall opinion about a game like FFXVI a couple of weeks after it launched vs now, it has definitely gotten more mixed.

I watched a couple of shorts and the famous push ups cutscene.
The game is under animated with a very weird and cringe feeling. If the graphics were better, it would fall in the uncanny valley for sure.

The gameplay looks just ok and the performances were also ok. This looked more like a good filler between goty releases rather than a goty itself.

I find it absolutely hilarious that this game is supposedly so bad, but yet it continues to grace the gaming media websites and on this board. Frankly, I could care less about the game, but the constant bombardment of hearing about it is running a bit long in the tooth.

We just started winning the conversation, give us one more month.

It's important for Dragon Ages to come.

Never thought Geoff would hop on this train but here we are.

So, you really care about the game? Got it!

One of the better things I played this year. Definitely scratched that action RPG itch and I liked the characters and story. I was a bit surprised not to see it on the GOTY list but then again probably a safe move not to aggravate all the angry man-children.
