. you could like it if you like great RPGs like Baldurs Gate.
No, because it is not an RPG. It’s an action game with RPG mechanics. Your choices don’t matter, everything has a prescribed narrative, you cannot be evil. It’s a theme park game, you are just going from one shiny attraction to the other.

Cyberpunk Ultimate Edition is only 5€ more, buy that instead.

That's how you know it's a great Rpg.
Honestly, I played it when it was first released and loved it. I spent most of my time exploring all the zones and collecting stuff, none of the "work" stuff in DA:I stuck out to me.

Sure there were some dark (REALLY dark) side stories for some of the companions (the elf girl one was bad...I think she got abused a bunch or something) but I really just skipped over all that stuff. I just the exploration and item collection.

SaleGuard, I did genuinely just skip through most of the dialogue. It wasn't for me and there were just no dialogue options I would ever choose so I would just randomly pick stuff. I was down on the game anyway since most of the stuff from DA:I that I enjoyed was gone.

I can’t do press ups, so I can’t take the risk of buying this and selecting the wrong dialogue option - I could literally fall on my face.

Good game. One of the few 2024 AAAs worth checking out.

Don't let an NPC talk you out of one of the very few good games this year for extremely dumb reasons:

Its fine you liked the game.. enjoy it and have fun ... calling others dumb for not agreeing with your tastes and opinions its not a great look .... and pointing out metascores from the clown media doesn't help sell games anymore, it helps in review threads wars though.

Everyone is their own special snowflake, but the negativity around this game on gaf is well documented (including in this thread) NOT to be about taste.

The point of the metacritic is to show that Gaf at large's take on this game is out of step with most people who played it.

I got the game even though I'm not enthralled by the writing. It should have been it's strongest point but unfortunately, if you're thinking about buying it, you're gonna have to tell yourself it's more action oriented and less of an rpg.

Once you close your eyes and block your ears from the poor narrative, what's left is a very beautiful world , great OST and an action jam-packed video game with good looking hair physics.

Edit: lmao my character looks like an LGBTQ version of Drizzt Do'Urden

"most people who played it" = a bunch of critics of which a significant chunk are shitlib activists who are pushing an agenda.

I am not going to tell anyone who liked it they are wrong but critics are increasingly not to be trusted. Like Eurogamer giving this game 5 stars is the most predictable thing you could imagine.

the tautology of ideology i agree with = good game is wild.
But you can actually see this in various reviews. Dustborn and Concord were highly praised, and Wukong was rated lower than it deserves, with the reviews saying things like "Not diverse enough".

Remember the few people that believed the holidays were going to save this game? (mostly on purple and reddit)

Those were some good times.

75 "critics" versus 7,240 users...

And the BEST user score for Veilguard is on Xbox Series X:

It's even worse when you look at PC:

So, much like Star Wars Outlaws I feel that people focused on the wrong things. Kay isnt hot. Ok, but the game itself isnt bad at all. Its no 10/10 for me but so far its been a solid 7 with immersion as a good 9.

Dragon Age, if they had not made such a fuss about the damn Qunan character or whatever, and shown that awful first trailer I think it would have done better. Its not a bad game, if you look at how other RPGs have moved towards being action oriented, then its pretty good. Worlds are pretty well detailed and not OPEN world, which works when done this way. Still lots of freedom.

Not attached to the characters...any of them, but the story itself is somewhat interesting, combat is fine. I havent tried all the specs, but i dig it so far.

My honest complaint, no dark or jerk choices for regular conversation. You should be able to be unlikable to the point people will up and leave your party.

Yeah some of the convos are not to my liking, but I just skip em...I havent come across any point in the game that made me just want to write the entire game off, unlike Saints Row reboot.

I think its worth a try if you like fantasy rpgs in any kind of way.

Edit: let me add that I was dead set on not liking the game because I didnt like what i had seen in previews AND what was being shared.

Its worth a discounted buy.

I imagine it as the Evangelion series... We were saved from the first impact, which would be Dragon Age veilguard or that thing.

Sorry but even ignoring the woke agenda, everything I've seen and heard about this game sucks. The RPG side of the game sucks, the combat sucks, the exploration sucks, the art-style sucks, the companions are annoying, the writing seems to be made for teenagers and much more.
If you were to remove the whole lecturing, the game would still be of no interest to me. I'm happy you're enjoying it though
