Why are people so obsessed with freaking out over scalping? It is a minor issue and always has been. Millions of consoles are sold at launch and a few thousand are scalped. Any person trying to make money on the Pro would have watched it, seen that it was still available and cancelled.
If people are seeing these things auctioning and selling for less than retail what they are seeing is extreme ignorance.
Scalping only seems bad because it is hard to get high demand items and seeing a few hundred on ebay that take days to sell somehow looks bigger than it is. If scalping was illegal, it would still be extremely hard to get the hard to find things. Why shouldn't someone who generally can't make enough money another way exploit people who are well enough off to pay nearly 2x for something that is hard to get? Because you couldn't get one? FFS we all go through this shit. Sometimes we get lucky and get a preorder in, other times we are waiting for daily drops and losing our minds for weeks. Eliminating scalpers would not make that go away.
eBay UK currently has numerous sellers listing the £700 console for less than its retail price
While there remain a handful of sellers trying to sell the console at a profit, eBay UK currently has numerous sellers listing the £700 console for less than its retail price.
Sony is scalping it themselves.
Exactly. Nobody is selling these with a loss, even if it's lower than the 700£. There are always ways to get things cheaper for example with cashback or discounted voucher. In Germany the price is 799 Euro everywhere, but with corporate benfits coupons you can get it for 659 Euro. Why would they resell it when they can just return for a refund tho?
Yeah the story doesn't make sense. The scalpers could return it without any loss since it's only been 3 days since it was shipped and it would be sealed. It's more likely that the £680-700 sellers are using some arbitrage with some discount somewhere (maybe Very's 20%) and aren't taking a loss. Good to see them not making much though and having to sell at RRP.What loss? As far as i know UK still has the same right of withdrawal for online orders for 14 days as the EU and any scalper with a brain would have known that this thing is far away from being scalpable, it was availabale all the time.
Was hoping to see this. She probably had to sell her minivan to make ends meet.

Sadly the scalpers are having their way with the disk drive. I just hope people aren't in a rush to get one, spend the extra money on digital games and buy it when it's available.
Could I remove the disk drive I don't use from my PS5 and sell it for use in a Pro?
