Unlikely. Season 3 and Season 4 were worked on at pretty much the same time.

Well, arguably all three of those shows are/have been better than Korra, even if two of them haven been savagely run into the ground. Season 2 will still drag the show down regardless of how much of a comeback 3 and hopefully 4 are.

I have a feelings that this is actually just going to be Book 3 part 2 and that they called it Book 4 because they wanted to finish up the series with 4 books and not have the 3rd book be twice as long as the previous 2.

They've said repeatedly that each Book will have a self-contained story and its own villain, perhaps most recently in this interview from a little over two weeks ago:

Having that villain be a high ranking member of the Red Lotus would technically fulfill that while still being a direct continuation of Book 3's story.

Kinda happy in a selfish way that we're getting it soon, what the fuck has happened to this franchise though, would never have imagined it being screwed like this.

Is it screwed? Korra is apparently doing very well online, it gets full season DVD releases and artbooks, the avatar comics are still released etc, that's pretty good.
And honestly, the franchise was more screwed during book 3 of TLA, when they aired the episodes on a completely insane schedule withan eight months long break in the middle before they burned off the second half of the season in eight days, half of those episodes premiering on tv after they were released on dvd.

Sure, the Avatar franchise didn't become the next Spongebob, but looking at Spongebob that's a good thing!

Well we've still got about three weeks to go till Book 4 starts so plenty of time for something to leak as its pretty much become a tradition now for Legend of Korra to have at least one episode leak throughout its season/book.
Amazon will most likely be putting the episodes up 10-12 hours ahead of Nick again if Book 3 was any indication.

A mix of book 2 and scheduling. Even with book 2, I think it would be a lot better off if the episodes aired as much as I remember the ATLA episodes did. Well actually with the lack of filler I feel like that would maybe be harder to do, but still.

Erratic scheduling and poor advertising from Nick are the big ones I would say.

I don't think the quality for Book 2 had anything to do with decrease in ratings and more of the fact that Nick announced the air date for Book 3 out of nowhere and only a weeks notice and then proceeded to give it the bare minimum amount of advertising as they possibly could.
ATLA scheduling wasn't that much better as there was a 8 month break halfway through Book 3 but they did at least advertise it a lot more.

Yeah the move to Friday for Book 2 certainly didn't help it ratings wise.

as the other person said poor advertisement and irregular schedule and I will throw in taking 20 episodes to get the point where the main character doesn't grate on your nerves just by being on screen. (I disliked korra's character through most of season 1... had hope at the end of season one and then they reset her at the start of season 2 to the horrible character)

really I feel the series took 20 episodes to get decent in general. They were trying to hard to make sure it wasn't a cash in to the avatar series at first, trying to make things opposite from the first series even if it was a dumb idea to do so (the big one is keeping it all located in one city, as a lot of the enjoyment of the first series comes from being able to see the well developed world, which we got to see some of in season 3)

beyond that I think a number of people hoped that an avatar continuation would cover aang's adult life not the avatar after him, so it might have lost some traction from that as I have a few friends that haven't watched it for that reason.

It would certainly be interesting to see how Korra adapts to using the wheelchair whilst injured as Air Temple Island doesn't exactly look wheelchair friendly.
But i'm giving it three episodes tops before she's back and up again on her feet.

Got to say the new hairstyle looks great as Korra for me always looks the best with her hair let down.

Yeah, especially as avatar she should have plenty of tools to move herself without actually using her legs. Just imagine her permanently levitating on a big rock.
