Legend of Korra |OT| Bending the Rules of Nature

Salty bitches shoulda bought a Wii U

I can get better prices on an Xbox One than on a WiiU in Brazil. Shit is expensive.

Yeah, get a Wii U and Bayonetta 2. This game will be finished by the end of the day for most people. This is just the appetizer!

For most people sure, but I'd bet that people who would buy a WiiU just for Bayo 2 won't stop at their first playthrough :P

Which is kinda why I don't really care about not having a lot of time with all the elements on your first playthrough, which I agree that can be a major flaw for people who only want to play it once.

I don't watch the show at all, and I wasn't interested in this besides being a platinum game. That aside, finished the first chapter and really digging it. For $15, I think it's a steal. Then again others think it's horrible, those same people probably never played some of the most recent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games though.

Not me, don't like these kind of games. Just curious if it would end the whining for a port ha.

(Plus I think Korra and avatar are much more interesting than Bayometta and the witches/angels).

Me too. I'd rather watch any part of Korra than any given story segment of Bayonetta. But it's aaaall about that combat, baby.

Gonna re-iterate what I said in the Korra pre-load thread and say that I think this game is fantastic. As a huge fan of the show and Platinum I couldn't be any happier with what I got for $15. Like most Platinum games there is an unexplained depth to the combat with learning how to charge your Chi mid-combo and the benefits of doing so that, once you learn is very satisfying.

Also I don't think they ever explain that holding down Circle/B makes you taunt, I didn't do a ton of testing but I think it works like a Bayo taunt in that enemies will immediately come after you.

Yeah, it's great for the mechs because it taunts them in to stopping long range attacks so you have something to perfect counter.

Price doesn't factor into it. A bad/good game is bad/good irrelevant of the price.

Price is relevant for potential buyers because of lower risk and for actual buyers because of opportunity cost.

Any videos of some high level play? I want to see what the combat system can really do.

Yeah, I wouldn't have thought Vanquish was anything special until I saw some GIFs and veteran videos. Blew my mind.

Ya'll should go watch The Last Airbender if you haven't already

Game is okay. Feels a lot like PS2 era licensed games like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and the Buffy games where you really have to meet it halfway and fill in the blanks the budget couldn't fill in terms of personality. The empty environments and weak story really stick out.

I love the combat, but I really don't like the side-games. Pro bending and Naga should take a hike so the game's precious few hours could be entirely action.

Korra would flip her lid over losing a charity match.

If you can afford it and have any remote interest in character-action games, do it.

All the games coming out this fall do make it hard to put extra cash forward on something I'm not already invested in. I'll most likely get it during the Winter intermission of classes. I do enjoy Platinum after all.

I'm not very familiar with biogamergirl but I sees of folks always highly reccomending the site. What's the backstory on that? Without derailing the thread too much.

It is our Destiny to understand their great importance in the balance of the industry and GOTY re-releases

I liked my one bit with pro-bending because I knocked the last guy off at literally 0:00 on the timer.

Had it been easier or had I lost, I think would have hated it.

If they give it a 9, I would be crazy not to buy it!

Has anyone compared the X1 and PS4 versions so far? Tempted to just get it on X1 due to having some credit left, but would prefer the 'better' version.

The games producer said they both run at 1080p and 60fps. It's not really a very demanding game so I would be surprised if they weren't identical.

Both XB1 and PS4 versions are 1080p/60fps and I haven't noticed any dips or weird image issues on PS4 yet. I wouldn't think there is a difference since it's not really that good looking or complex.

I know what you mean, the last few months have been crazy expensive.

That Gamespot review was brutal. I will wait for a sale.

I knew about all the basic features but the execution sounds weak.

The naga sections aren't even as good as Temple Run? With games like Minion Rush they could've done a lot better even with a limited budget.

The combat isn't polished and this is the one area I expected them to get right. I could deal with that if the basic adventure was decent but it doesn't sound like they put much thought into the story structure so I won't have that as a consolation prize.

Well its sarcasm. Since Destiny reviewed poorly bungie really had to dig deep to find some favorable scores for marketing purposes. Our good friends Biogamergirl is one of them.

Appetizer is a good way of putting it.

If you're a fan of LoK, don't come in looking for a good story to tie in with the series. Be in it to play as Korra doing crazy and fun things. If you're a fan of platinum games, consider it a small offering to have fun with for a day or two until you get to Bayo 2.

It's a joke from the destiny accolades trailer thread IIRC.
Game reviewers being shit at action games will never get old.
Then why didn't Bayonetta 2 get terrible scores all-around as well?
If skill at character action games was the biggest issue, then surely that would translate at least partially.

So I'm flicking through those negative reviews and the big complaints seem to be controls and lack of narrative and characterisation from the show. As someone who doesn't care at all for the source material so couldn't give a crap about the story, I'm really not sure if this is actually a bad game or if the reviewers just have issues that I won't share. Platinum's games having a learning curve that reviewers don't pick up on has happened in the past.

I'll probably pick it up after I'm done with Bayonetta 2.

I don't like L3 to lock on (which you really only need for far away enemies), but besides that I haven't had any issues with the controls, they feel fine to me.

Not a huge fan of Korra (and I am bewildered there are people who prefer Korra to Bayonetta, one is literally a vacuum of personality where good characters lose their good features the moment they talk to her) but waiting for gameplay impressions. So it's essentially MGR but bending? Still, I heard the game is more lenient.

Oh, I just noticed the OT. I guess I'll paste my post from the other thread.

I just finished the game, streamed it all from the beginning to the end. While the probending and Naga stuff is mostly annoying and the game feels like a budget title in terms of enemy variety/barren areas, it was a really fun experience.
The core gameplay is really well made and if I had to rate it, I'd give it a solid 7/10.

This observation makes me think those people are playing MGR on easy mode only.

Haven't gotten the game yet so I am basing it on views. So it isn't? Still, why are the cues a bit too long?

I think I'll get this 5 bucks in Steam. It already being Korra still makes me angry (should've been an Aang game).

Bayo 2 is an outlier in that it's a platinum action game that holds your hand through a lot of the basics. From what I've seen Korra doesn't painstakingly tutorialize every minor element of the combat system and requires a bit of experimentation on the part of the player. It's a lot closer to Rising, W101, or God Hand in that sense.

I mean, it's not like what I'm claiming is supposition. The IGN and Gamespot reviews both are full of factual inaccuracies about the combat system because these guys are shit and can't be bothered to learn to play.

What would be cool, is if it proved to be successful to make another that included many different avatars that we havent seen yet. But I doubt it'll happen especially with Nintendo sending the newest season out to die.

Edit: Nintendo nickelodian same thing right? :p

Korra has a huge pop up box every time a new technique like parrying etc. is introduced.

Both IGN's and Gamespot's review spent too much time on the game's story, you can't expect it to reach show level with that kind of budget.

The only valid criticism I saw was boss fight and temple Naga run.
Games with super low budgets can have great stories.
