Sorry, just a drive-by posting.

Played around with trying to make some sort of super car from set 31008, for more MOC contest fun.

Kind of a failed attempt. I like some details, but it kind of doesn't work over all. Oh well. At least I'm having fun and learning what can be done with pieces!

I got Jabba's Sail Barge over Christmas. It's a real show piece. Got it on my shelves now.

I do think it shows nicely. After getting it, I have most of the recent RotJ stuff... except Ewok Village... i'm hopoing for another sale since I missed the recent amazon one.

Not sure what you are high on, but that looks great! :p

Thanks! But while I DO like the back, and to a certain extent the front, they look really weird in person, because the front is slightly narrower (I'm kind of hiding it with the photography). And it's built with really random studs-not-on-top techniques, making it sort of unstable. I had to add sort of studs poking in at random places to solidify it somewhat. Obviously I like it enough to show, but it wasn't really what I was going for.

And obviously the windscreen is totally random. At least I ended up adding a steering wheel based on how the windscreen came together!

But it's SO much fun playing with the same set over and over again!

well we are all aware that the parts selection is limited, cannot wait to see what else you come up with.

Awesome microkart design.

Here's a bunch of other microkarts inspired by the above work.

Ugh, I understand they don't want people stealing their photos, but they make it so hard to share their photos with links to their stuff (to give them credit).

These are really nice, I like the mini-vehicle stuffs that can fit mini-figures.

Sooo awesome... LEGO needs to make its own Cart racer game where you can chose different minifigs, racers, and build your own racer (the best feature of all, of course)

With some physical sets to go with, naturally

I tried to make a MOC for the contest but I'm finding creating something in the digital designer impossible. I would much rather have the pieces in front of me. I'll keep at it, but I don't expect to have something finished by the end of next week.

I also picked up a cabinent to put some of my sets in. I really need to get another one now though.

OOH I think I need one of those cases, I can forever store the Ecto-1 submission in there :)

Also I'm highly tempted to create my version of ecto-1 I built as a kid in the 80s with my old pieces for shits and giggles it was built in "classic" 80s lego car format with some junk on the top and red slopes at the back for fins :)

Funny, this past Christmas, I went to my parents place and dug out my childhood box of lego. Originally, I thought it was my mind that had exaggerated the amount I had, but actually the box was quite substantial. Old 80s Lego, with yellow, blue red, white grey and black only. Digging around I found mint condition classic spacemen mini figs, Fabuland figures (now passed on to my daughter), and a mini scale Millennium Falcon I had built.

I remember always trying to build variations of X-wing, At-ST and Millennium Falcons.

Ah, memories.

I wish I could smack the 10 year old me for the teeth marks in my pieces :(

Anyway I put my movie minifigs in the usual ikea frames...

brickset problems are partly related to a DDoS attack. blog post on the front page.
http://new.brickset.com/

Amazon has Bad Cop Pursuit for 23.99, Metalbeards Duel 27.99, Super Cycle chase for 39.99 and Lord Business Evil Lair for 55.99.

I REALLY want that Evil Lair but I got Bad Cop a week ago and just ordered the Eiffel Tower set so i'm tapped.
FYI guys amazon now has ALL of the Movie sets 20% off -- not just the ones mentioned. Exception being the two cheapest sets which are still $12.99

But since this is just price matching TRU's 20% movie sale, you can get those as well as the Movie blind bags there at the discount. Not to mention the TRU exclusive set... Rescue Reinforcements!!! (sold out online though)

And just my luck... my local TRU is sold out of it too.

That reminds me! I actually built an Ecto-1 back then too, with these as fins:

Great idea. My favorite part of playing LEGO Star Wars was creating my own custom character!

Y'know... that'd be really cool to have all three in there as a sort of progression:

Childhood model -> CUUSOO submission -> LEGO's final product

That'd be a pretty damn awesome display anywhere.

And whenever you go back to conventions you HAVE to bring that with you... how many people at BrisBricks can claim your CUUSOO achievement? :)

Reviews for the movie so far:

Variety
The typical Lego minifigure stands just 4cm tall, though of course, the popular construction toys hold a much bigger place than that in children’s imaginations. “The Lego Movie” understands how fans interact with the brand and answers with a mile-a-minute geekstravaganza that immerses kids — and the adults who only think they outgrew their old playsets — at ground level with the tiny plastic bricks. Just as they did with “21 Jump Street” and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs” before this most ambitious undertaking, co-helmers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller irreverently deconstruct the state of the modern blockbuster and deliver a smarter, more satisfying experience in its place, emerging with a fresh franchise for others to build upon.

To the enormous credit of these preternaturally clever writer-directors, the above paragraph contains more low-hanging Lego puns than the movie itself, which relies on ingenuity and genuinely inspired twists on what audiences expect from such an experience to deliver a constant stream of engagement and laughs.

Telegraph 4/5
Andy Warhol would have been knocked sideways by The Lego Movie. The new animation from Warner Bros. takes art and commerce and clicks them together as naturally and satisfyingly as a pair of plastic bricks on their way to becoming a castle or spaceship. Never before have I felt less like a film was selling me a product, and then left the cinema more desperate to fill my house with the product it wasn’t selling.

Wegotthiscovered 4.5/5
I could continue gushing over The LEGO Movie for hours, but a point has to be made - Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have created a (near) perfect family movie experience. Children will be captivated by a high-flying adventure full of lazer blasters, unique Lego creations, charmingly funny characters, and a special everyman named Emmet who shows us anyone can be a hero. Likewise, adults will be left utterly speechless by the real life implications of Emmet’s journey, also being able to enjoy more mature jokes that reference cinematic milestones of old. No one is spared laughs, audiences are granted limitless smiles, and Lego walks away a winner after taking their first swing at Hollywood.

Heads up in case anyone may not be aware. Toys R Us has LEGO Marvel Superheroes slashed down to $20 for consoles. Going to pick up my copy for the WiiU during lunch.

Got the case from Fantastic Furniture. It's great for displaying the sets and keeps my 3 year old's fingers out.

Don't we all. What were we thinking? lol

Lol, me too! I actually swallowed a minifig when I was little...

lol that's awesome.

The backs of the legs have stud holes (?) that are connected to two round white studs that are glued to the back. at least that is how I did it.

Oh that's brilliant thinking outside the box.

On a different note. I am on day 3 of moving and finally getting to the last of the lego sets. You know you don't have enough space at your old place when you find your slave 1 tucked in the back with webs across the wings, 2 flies stuck in it and a hairy spider living in the cockpit, eww.

Lol, me too! I actually swallowed a minifig head when I was little...

What's with all the comments? This is ABSolutely SNOT funny. MOCing him will just make him feel like AFOoL. It would stink if it was a classic space minifig (actually any minifig), An ABSolute waste.

Whoops I meant minifig HEAD. Yes, it came out the other end apparently.

Let this be a warning to not use your teeth as a Lego dismantling tool...

Well to be fair, back then that was our go to LEGO brick separator. Probably due to this, LEGO now included the darn thing in every set it seems. I think I have like 10 of them in my drawer.

The new Captain America trailer look great, just curious are we getting any LEGO set for this movie? A movie version of Cap would be nice.

Call me slow (or just not as informed as u guys)but I didn't realize there was a bogo 30% off at target on lego sets. Might grab a few today, though I just instead might grab a movie set off amazon

This is so cool... but it also seems somewhat risky. Is there room for another young teen-oriented action series with Ninjago and Chima already running? And those sets are HUGE. The phoenix set and that truck are easily 1000+ pieces. Add to that the Movie sets and the usual ton of Star Wars... is there a market for it all?

Then again, it's not hard to see why LotR, Lone Ranger, Castle and Galaxy Squad were killed off.

Please tell me you didn't glue those tacos in place o:

They're Blu Tacked in (not sure if that's what it's called overseas)

Whats your impression of the series?

Worst series ever :/

What do you do with the ice skate wearing sets, etc

Blu Tack again :)

That was the idea, childhood, cuusoo submission, final model

I'd do that for the next expo and it would hopefully show kids if they keep at it they can make cool things with practice.

Guess we're gonna find out! They might be oversaturating the market but who knows.

So you're calling me even slower! I did not know about Target sale. That's about 15% off if you get two for the same price. My RSS feed from LEGO sites doesn't even have the Target sale. I'd say you're fast.

I'm holding some of my purchases for LEGO store to get 1 or 2 of the Martian Manhunters.

Plastic bubble! LEGO is definitely eating into it's own market IMO. However, if it's expanding market enough to offset that, it's still good from a business perspective.

Chima is not selling well. At least not the Speedorz as those have been discounted 50% for well over a month and they still have a huge inventory at the LEGO store. Set wise, they only had a few discounted, so I think those are selling OK.

There is plenty of room for Ninjago since it seems many didn't flock to Chima. My son said none of the kids in his class like Chima, but liked Ninjago. My kids were eager to watch the new episodes that just came out.

Worst series ever :/

A bit harsh, but I can understand why. This CMF series isn't series 12 so I think it should be taken in context. It's highly targeted towards the movie and that potential crowd unlike usual series. It's basically more character based. Usual series always tries to have a mix of different themes in a generic sense or something known already wordwide.

I think some people will have their minds changed if they end up liking the movie and those characters.

Anyway, this definitely is a series where I did not want many duplicates. I do like the many new parts and part variations that were introduced through this series.

Ultra Agents preview, by everyone's favorite toy reporter:

http://youtu.be/tHzhDtaq9bw

That truck is bad-ass.

Oh snap! Just watched the video and both those sets are impressive. The truck is the big winner of those two. They both have huge play value. I know some have said the truck is very similar to previous Agents headquarters. If it was anything like this truck, I'd say whoever had the earlier version was very happy with it.

I like the pink hair piece and the Anakin Skywalker/Sensei Garmaddon hair in black.

EDIT:

No double VIP points in March? Better have it in April or May. I was banking on it for another modular purchase.

Good question. LEGO has always had an ongoing action theme or two at a time, but with Chima and now Ninjago being evergreen themes it may be reaching critical mass.

Plus this year we have an anomaly in the LEGO Movie - no idea if they will keep going with it, but I am sure a sequel is in consideration. (UPDATE: IT IS! http://www.thewrap.com/warner-bros-writer-jared-stern-already-working-sequel-lego-movie-exclusive/).

My son is over Ninjago now, and I've recently decided to go with Ultra Agents instead of Chima, so for my part I appreciate the diversity of options - if LEGO can keep it up.
