LEGO |OT 3| Build Hard. Buy Fast. No Mercy.

I work for LEGO and I find out more news online than I do through the channels in my own company.

Oftentimes I go to the LEGO store and I have more upcoming information than many that work there do. When it comes to stuff going OOP they are ahead of me on that. Usually I can find out which ones of those I need to buy from them a few months before the news shows up on the internet.

Yeah I had 2 customers call in about a VIP event in our store that we knew nothing about. They had gotten something in the mail, and nothing was filtered down to the brick specialists about it, so I learned about that from our customers. Sad really

Jan 1st. They're at the store, along with LEGO Movie sets and Architecture Eiffel Tower. But no early access.

I heard some of the LEGO Movie sets would be available Dec 29th from a LEGO store person. This will be a good gauge on how good of a source that person is.

All the boxes say Jan 1st on them, but I was told the 29th by a supervisor as well for the movie stuff specifically.

I didn't know this was the designation. I love it. It's like a Brick Sommelier.

I know what my first LEGO purchase of the year will be; Parisian Restaurant of course. The question is what set should I get with it. I am debating between horizon express, 2nd orthanc before it gets discontinued as rumored, or UC "seX" Wing. Kind of amazing how caught up I got on exclusives this year that those are the only "old" sets left that I don't have that I do want . I may put out a list of my purchases this year minus cmf, pab, and polybag purchases just to horrify myself.

So you already have a Tower of Orthanc set, and are planning on getting another? If that is the case, I would go with the Horizon Express, as direct train set shelf lives can be unpredictable. If you don't already have Orthanc, then get it first.

don't ask me for codes
I've not seen the Palace Cinema at any discount anywhere, unlike all the other modulars. I still need to grab Town Hall first though :/

blast it... I ordered hundreds of those 1x1 rounds and 2x1 tiles and I don't have enough to go for a third level on my castle tower. I place BrinkLink orders thinking, I couldn't possibly need more than X amount. And then I always run out once I'm in to my building.

Edit: Thanks for all the feedback on the MOC. I thought I'd be finished the other day, but I cannot decide how I want to finish the top of the tower or the door at the base.

In laws sent me Dol Guldur Ambush for Christmas. Very generous gift, but I am meh on the set. They did send a gift receipt so I can take it back if I wanted. It would pay for half of Parisian Restaurant...

However, it is a good looking parts pack. And I would get Azog, Radagast, and parts for a weeping angel statue.

Decisions...

I...wait...what?! YOU, return a set? It's not like you won't get Parisian Restaurant anyways.

Ah, yes. I am getting the modular anyways. But with this it is less out of pocket. :)
I did return a Y Wing last year, but I already had it before.

Screw it. I wanna build. Opening it now.

As dumb as it sounds, I'd kill for that set for azog.

I got the red house 3-in-1 for my girlfriends daughter. She seems to like it but is waiting to open it when she gets back from my folks. I look forward to seeing what she makes since she's old enough to make functional stuff that is still crazy.

Azog and Radagast swayed me. But the real clincher was the statue mini figure. I just need grey wings and can make some Weeping Angels from Doctor Who.

My apartment complex is having a gingerbread house contest. Nothing in the rules says it has to actually be gingerbread. Tempted to take my LEGO gingerbread house MOC down there and submit it for voting.

Only problem is the display is wide open and unguarded for days. Dont want to chance anyone stealing or breaking the set, but it would be a fun troll to put it down there.

Dol Guldur Battle, right? Ambush is the smaller set I think.

You'll need four of those figures to adequately recreate the finale of Blink :)

Don't do it. I have a friend who's neighbor put a ton of toys out for a local charity pick up a couple of weeks ago. Included in the pile of toys were several 2007/2008 LEGO sets. My friend went over after seeing it out there for 2 days to ask if he could buy some of the sets or donate to the charity on the giver's behalf and realized that they'd all been stolen. People are gross.

Battle, yes. My fault. And yes, I need more Angels for Blink. But one Angel is better than none.

That is my fear. If they had things locked up, I would do it without hesitation. I think it would throw people for a loop. And I am proud of my moc.

Edit: building Dol Guldur now. New brick: 2x2 round tile with hole in center. Very cool.

Can you have too much bley for castle and rocks? Bley is good for metal too.

Yep - another new game-changing part!

LEGO has really been churning out the new moulds. I wonder if this is due to the competition or that they are selling so many sets it offsets the cost of making more moulds.

Since I opened Dol Guldur (only did bag 1 tonight. Will finish tomorrow), now I debate if I keep that Visa giftcard my mother sent me to help pay off Parisian Restaurant, or use it to buy that Friday the 13th blu ray box set tomorrow that I have been eyeing for months.

I know in the end I am buying Parisian Restaurant either way. Just wondering if I should lessen the pain on my wallet. Granted, the Friday the 13th set will be around for quite some time, but the price on it will not. ($53 or so after deals and coupons).

Sooo much goodness yesterday I didn't get a chance to respond to.

I really like the minifigs in the Movie sets:

That moustache attaches around the neck, so you can transfer it to almost any minifig.

I think I may want most of the LEGO Movie sets. Will wait for 30% on most of them though.

New TMNT ad shows some new sets: Mutation Chamber Unleashed (79119) & Turtle Sub Undersea Chase (79121)

This makes me want to get more of the turtles from the first series. Not extremely excited about the new turtle prints. Definitely some interesting new minifig moulds (crock and black blob thingy).

More minifigure displays done. I need more of these cases...

I think there's room to increase each tier's height.

Looks nice. I have a similar setup display cases like that except different dimensions. I fit 2 series in each.

New Chima minifigs:

I'm liking the insect minifigs with those spider legs. I like how they used the asteroid rock thingy for the spider abdomen.

After deliberation, I am going to pass on the Friday the 13th set. Because I am passing on it, I have a 25% off coupon for BN if anyone wants it. It expires 12/24. It will work on LEGO sets and Architecture (but not Studio). Many stores still have the now OOP Robie House in stock, which this coupon will work on. (Translates to roughly $50 off the set)

First one to get a PM to me gets the coupon.

Let's be real, PhonBon. Your avatar is always ready to pounce on an awesome LEGO deal. Search your feelings, you know it to be true!

I searched my feelings about Robie House before. Besides. I have two of those 25% coupons. How do you know the other one isn't for Robie House?
It isn't. Gotta buy one last thing for my wife for Christmas

nice haul... argh wish I had the energy to go scouring TRU today, but my luck it's probably picked bare. Trying to be patient and wait till after the new year and hope for some amazon discounts.

Great thing about LEGO, they are always in good supply. Can't say that about a lot of other things I collect.
