This wedding topic brings up something I've been thinking about asking advice for on here for a bit of time. As it stands, I refuse to get married while the federal government would still consider me a second class citizen. But with the upcoming Supreme Court case that may remove this barrier, I might be willing to start the process of, ya know, asking him. My boyfriend and I have been together 11 years (we started dating in high school) and are very content as is, but it's something I'm considering for our future and am kind of confused how you go about certain things.

Firstly, how do you find out what size ring to get? And how could I find this out without him knowing and giving away the surprise? Where do you get a ring to ask a guy to marry you? How much does it cost? (We make just enough to make ends meet and this may be an issue for me) We're both super uber Nintendo fans and I saw online in the past these really classy Zelda ones (though for us, I think Zelda for him and Earthbound for me would be ideal.) Neither of us really like a lot of attention so this is all kind of a sensitive thing especially when it would come time to tell people.

Do I have to ask his parents first? Is it ok to ask him without any fleshed out ideas of when an actual wedding would happen? I know I had other questions but I suppose that's a good place to start. Any advice is appreciated = D

From my friend's experiences:

Go for an engagement ring. First, it can be something simple and you can worrying about the real thing later (price, design, fit). Second, you don't need to worry too much about size. Just try and err on too big since if you're going for that iconic 'on the knee' moment you want the ring to slip on. Afterwards, you can have it fitted appropriately. Also, you don't have to have wedding plans or dates set up and it's probably best to work those out with your partner anyway.

I don't know about traditional gender role things though (like asking the parents). I've only heard of gay weddings tangentially and they often sound like more casual affairs than what my friend and brother are doing.

Hey has anyone watched MTV Canada's 1 Girl 5 Gays? I just watched an episode and thought it was pretty amusing. I'm thinking of watching the series online while I'm still swollen.

Yes, I quite like it. I think it's quite funny and some guys are cute.

I believe Magnus auditioned for the show. I haven't seen him on TV yet so I don't think he got in but maybe he can tell us, ha.

Speaking of Magnus:
bottoming can feel great or not so great depending on your mood, the amount of preparation, the amount of lube, the top's penis shape, the position, etc. The first few times you do it, it feels weird because having something up there is not usual. However the more you do it or the more you practice with a toy, the better you feel about it because you get to "know" your ass and the sensations that you should or should not feel.

first of all, AWWWWWWW :3

i feel like this would be threadworthy tbh. while some of your questions might require gay people to answer, it's not impossible for straight men to have had their girlfriends propose.

tradition has been that you spend 3 months wages on a ring for a woman (lol). i'm not really sure how much you would spend on a man, but just spend what you feel is best. i don't think there is really a standard these days. i think it's ridiculous to spend a huge amount of money on something like a ring, but he's going to be wearing this thing for a long time, so you should at least get something that will still look good down the road. the whole ring-sizing thing is definitely something any married gaffer could tell you. i'm not sure how you get it sized without them knowing. i would love to see the nintendo rings. that sounds like a fun idea!

you don't need to ask his parents first, but you could always talk to his parents anyways and ask. you also do not need to have wedding plans when you pop the question. that's something that you both decide.

What? I don't understand that.

You know, Luigi's fucking Mansion 2 is coming this Sunday, it will be the best day of the year of Luigi

Eh? Lesser? Mario is the lesser one. Luigi is the best Mario character (not counting Yoshi here)

back in my time when you start out a convo with A/S/L you know you'd get some sex.

In both porn and real life, I've seen expressions that suggest that bottoming must be pleasurable. At least for some people.

Gotta try it to see if I'm one of guys. Hopefully I am.

Age/Sex/Location.

What DMPrince said.

It's pretty easy to tell when a guy is riding a dick and faking pleasure. It's not for everyone and it hurts.

Bottoming... is good. Yeah, it's good, but the initial penetration is always a bitch. You just have to loosen yourself up first, but there is always a psychological barrier for me that always makes me hesitate at first. The pounding is worth it though once it's in.

My boyfriend and I have watched it religiously for the whole 3 - 4 years it's been on. I've even met some of the cast members in real life, and some of them even go to my school (or used to). One of my current lab partners even dated Gerry. People watch one episode and just assume that everyone is just a stereotypical queen, but there are quite a few that are deep and wise... and some really are just queens. But it's all in good fun, so who cares? And Aliya-Jasmine is a true goddess.

i don't understand. are you saying it hurts for everyone? bottoming is definitely not for everyone, but your're doing it wrong if it's hurting. if you're relaxed and you go slow with proper lubricant, it should be a pleasurable experience for both parties. both people need to properly communicate and you'll be set!

Holy shit I just had a panic attack and can't get back to sleep. Fuck me I feel like I can't breathe still. Worst feeling ever.

Oh man I really want to move to Ontario (or is it B.C. where they have MTV Canada). Hell anywhere but here would be nice. The whole cast seems really chill apart from Gerry and Andrew. Gerry seems really fake and annoying and Andrew is just insane. Aliya-Jasmine is pretty awesome too.

What happened? Did you receive some bad news?
I started getting them a year or two ago once I became suicidal/depressed. I haven't had one in a few months so I thought they were over but I guess not. I was just thinking about family and life and that probably helped trigger it.

MTV Canada is in Toronto... on Davenport, I believe. But I think they might have moved onto Queen in the same building as Much Music? Not too sure. What I've heard about Gerry from my lab partner is that Gerry's actually pretty chill, and lives with his grandma in a small town outside of Toronto (he didn't say which one). And he showed me a lot of pictures of him in a speedo or leather outfit on his phone. He's very flexible. As for Andrew, I found him really annoying and superficial at first, but he's definitely grown up. Definitely strikes me as having money, though.

No you're not. I like doing both depending on the guy and my mood. Flip-flopping is as great IRL as it looks in porn.

Yeah, I was initially on the fence about Andrew, Santos or Matt for example. Turns out as the episodes unfold, you get to know them and they're not as crazy/terrible as they appear to be. Gerry just striked me as a fun guy, a little cray cray but in a good way.
Andrew is definitely well off. There was an episode recently where MTV went to some of the guys' parents house and Andrew was one of them. Seems like he's working for his dad's company, whatever they're doing.

I loved Dean, I know he's moved to NYC and I keep hoping to run into him at some point but no such luck yet. Otherwise I really like Jonathan (the blond one), Ian, Michael Yerxa, and David.

In regards to marriage all I want is good food, maybe a nice dress , friends and accepting family . If i wanted to do something lavish, I'd rather do so with the honeymoon, and even then I'd rather have money for a house and maybe a car versus anything else.

Well, you are a similar age to me, as you guessed.

Do you still feel depression? It is a really rough thing. Is your family supportive?

I... don't actually check out Gaming that often. >.>

If it's not Dota or me bitching about BioWare, I generally don't look at it. Unless Obsidian needs my white knighting.

That's only if we forget the d20s for combat rolls.

Lesbians have the best sex confirmed.

Hm, only had it once but my partner didn't seem in pain at all. I mean... I guess he could be lying... but I doubt it. Especially considering the directions he was giving.

Well I dunno it's gotten a lot better over the past few months. I'm way beyond being suicidal at this point but I might still might be depressed. And while I haven't told them (due to me not being able to live on my own financially) I know they're religious and contstantly say horrible things whenever gay things are mentioned.

Damn. I wish I hadn't checked out /pol/ on 4chan, especially after 4chan just opened the /lgbt/ board. I'm not sure if it's all a big joke or if it's an alternate to Stormfront. Unsettling, to say the least.

On a brighter note, Thom Yorke is cute.

I meant about your depression. But I am in the same boat as you, my father is religious and very homophobic, so I just cannot tell him until I am able to live on my own. Sucks, because that means that I cannot enjoy my life at all

Damn, you look nice.
Sai-kun, you just need the mousy ache and you are the definitive weegie <3

/pol/ is just terrible, I checked it some day and I ended up enraged, but then I remembered that I was in 4chan so some of those people must have been trolling, at least I hope so, also /lgbt/ is kinda bad right now, I much prefer /hm/, it might improve as time goes by.

Also, I'm a top! which is contrary to my personality but boy do I enjoy being dominant in bed grrr, I'd only bottom with a monogamous partner, not with anyone.

Anecdotal and all, but the people I know with the cheapest weddings and elopings have lasted the longest >_>.

Yep. Heck, my parents met, dated and got married in teh same year. They were both poor, 21 years old, my father was unemployed and started working 2 days after the wedding, no honeymoon..and they've been together for 44 years. :)

And "on-topic"...I (finally) met someone! But don't want to jinx it yet. But at the same time I'd rather jinx it now, than later. So...yeah. Lets see how things go around. With my well known bad luck (as in this is technically the first an closest to actually dating someone), I'm cautious; but he makes sure to keep me focused.

Didn't get to meet the guy last weekend, so no trainwreck stories, haha.
He said he felt off and only wanted to come when he feels like he really wants to meet me, lol, so we didn't talk for a few days, and I shut off my feelings as best I could, felt a little down but good.
Then yesterday he rang me up and was his usual self and acted like we are gonna live together and stuff, wtf, if he can't even get his ass here to meet me, why the fuck would I even consider the thought of living with him, lol.

Let me be clear: you are never gonna meet him. He seems to be the classic example of the guy who only talks to you because he likes the attention. I don't even know if you saw him on cam, if not, then he probably doesn't even look like his pics. Classic catfish.
