Glad to see SSM made it into the new Fire Emblem game. Can't wait to meet my husbando. <3

Although I probably won't ship it as hard as I shipped the avatar player and Lucina in Awakening, god they made me just love that game.

And to think up until now you were my favorite person in this thread. For shame. :|

Wait, what is this news about FE? Is there a real confirmation? Do you have a link? I just read the Iwata Asks, but when they said "any character," I assumed that was just loose language.

I'm playing FF14 on the PS4, RatskyWatsky.

Except for a few instances, controller works fine.

My character is Deric Meicyn, also on Gilgamesh. For all we know, we may have run into each other in the game and not even realized it. My class of choice is monk. I just beat
Shiva
so I have a little more to go before I hit the expansion content.

Maybe we have :O

Look me up sometime. My character is Emilius Cobalt.

Well can i use my character on console and PC?

Yes. If you have a PC copy and a console copy, you can share an account (and therefore characters) between them.

D:

Can you talk to other players? I guess it would have to be via voice chat right?

It's been like a year so I don't remember. I didn't use a headset. I think there were stock greetings and stuff you could say/convey without one.

I only played it with my away-from-keyboard friends I already knew though, and just talked to them on the phone on speaker while playing.

Lol sorry these answers are probably not helpful.

it's my last week of summer classes and I had taken 4 over six weeks so this last week is killing me. But I'm almost done, and while I don't expect my final grades to be what I wished (one should've been an A but due to a technical issue I got fucked while the other is on the brink of B/C but fuck it) I'm just happy to be done so I can breathe again.

Good luck and congrats on reaching the end

I really want to get into FF14 but then I look at gameplay videos like this and this and it's a turnoff for me.

Click, Click, Click, watch stuff happen...

I always get lost/confused with those kind of games.

Yaaaaay! Thanks for the link! But making the Nohr the gay edition and the Hoshido the lesbian edition is kind of annoying, mostly because I wanted to buy the Hoshido side. Hmm... Still, I'm happy it's happening!

It is a bit annoying but I'm glad I can still get the Nohr hard mode side and still get my husband. I'm going to end up playing both routes anyways :x

Eh, due to the implementation I really can't be happy about it. What next Pokemon Gay and Pokemon Lesbian? Not to mention the horrible choice for the female bi character.

EDIT: Oh and apparently they're sadists too.

I'm honestly still shocked that conflict-avoiding, non-answering, super-safe Nintendo literally said "yup, there's SAME SEX MARRIAGE in this game!".

But I'm still pissed off about Fire Emblem becoming Conception / Agarest / creepy otaku game :[

Hopefully Nintendo improves it on the next Fire Emblem game...and hopefully the bi dude is not super ugly.

But honestly I actually might not be buying Fates because of how much weird ass anime shit there seems to be in it like that My Room stuff. Good on Nintendo, but I feel like this new Fire Emblem style is on it's way to reach Neptunia/Conception/whatever the fuck levels of fuckery.

"...not there!"
"I'm glad we're not blood relatives!"

Get that crap out of my Fire Emblem :( I honestly wouldn't mind if we get good old American censorship for the NA version.

I can easily understand being disappointed that this basically has become FE: Gay and FE: Lesbian (though the DLC path has both) and that there's only one LGB character option per game (I feel that there should be two). I also understand people who are optimistic that this probably will mean that future FE games will all have this option and that other Nintendo games involving romance (Tomodachi Life) are likely to incorporate this. Personally, I am annoyed that I have to play Nohr if I want a gay romance path, since it seems unlikely I will get around to playing through the game twice, let alone three times. I'm also bummed by their personality choices. But I also appreciate that Nintendo of America isn't staying quiet on this. I think my reaction is "This is a great start but I hope you only continue to expand this in the future and I will be disappointed if you don't." Maybe the US will see TWO same-sex marriage news announcements this week.

I was going to mention this, haha.

There's also the design of the female bi character. She looks like she was meant to appeal to straight guys that like "professional" girl/girl porn.

I dunno, maybe I'm just too jaded but if this goes well I feel like they'll just use this as a template for same sex couples in future games and not actually try to improve.

Eh, I feel quite hopeful.

This is a first attempt at including gay themes in a nintendo game, and in a very japanese centric one as well. I'm not surprised that they fell back on common japanese tropes for the gay options.
In the future they'll probably take the criticism into account and try to appeal to more of the western audience as well.

It's a start!

So I heard about Fire Emblem, and was happy. Then I found out the there's only one dude I can have. Then I found out that he's only in the super hard pro version of the game that I don't wanna buy. Then I went into the thread here and everyone's posting things that 'everyone knows' that are kinda spoilery and I didn't wanna learn. So I come over here and everybody hates Fire Emblem. Where is the thread for people who haven't been following the datamining of a game that's not out for months but also like fire emblem and also dudes? :(

I will still buy the game but damn, the Amie stuff is even more fanservice-y as we've seen (from what I've read from people who have apparently watched people stream the game). :/

The OT will probably be just lewd talk with how much they put into this game to attract a certain audience.

I have nothing against sadism and nothing against *evil* gay people in video games. But I am a bit annoyed that it's split up the games like that, yeah. Like you said, it's the Gay and the Lesbian edition.

I wonder when the Bi Edition will come out then. :D

i dunno that FE thing is clearly a "Hey hey look at what we're doing! Progressive right" while not really doing anything. There's a reason why people's first assumption is that NoA would censor it, but it was actually NoA actually spinning this

Sadly you wont get a thread like that now. I actually dont hate the game and still plan on getting it. I understand the complaints about it being split up but I guess it doesnt bother me as much? Maybe I should be a bit more annoyed by it but honestly im just happy they are taking any steps at trying and hope they improve it in the future with a few more options (not the entire cast)

I'll just let you know that the Nohr/Conquest version (the one with the gay relationship) had multiple difficulty levels in it, so if you're worried that it'll be too hardcore, you can set it at a level that works for you.

And you can check out the Fire Emblem Community Thread for some FE talk that still marks spoilers.

I'd say it's doing something. It's the first Nintendo game with a confirmed gay relationship that the player has control over, and the first one that's actually more than just subtext and innuendo.

Yeah it's too bad that there's only one option for the gay and lesbian relationships, and that the characters fall into some common tropes (though to be fair, practically ever FE character is a walking trope) but it's a step in the right direction. And the fact that NoA is making a public statement highlighting this instead of letting it slip by and hoping no one would notice is also a very positive sign. They, if anything, are making good on their promise they made during the Tomodachi debacle to be more inclusive in their future offerings. It's a start with a bit of hoop jumping involved, but it's still a start.

Besides Square Enix with their recent addition of gay marriage to FFXIV, no other big name Japanese developers have made any sort of foray into adding this type of content to their games in any meaningful way. A few smaller publishers have some, and then there's always the doujin market, but that is still mostly contained to a very specific niche. This is a huge company putting it in one of their flagship IPs. I think that deserves some praise, even if it comes along with some hopeful provisions for future development.

Your description of a thread basically describes me (though Awakening is still in my backlog). I haven't been looking at any of the spoilers (minus the same-sex news and looking up who the option was), and I'm with you on the game choice: I wanted Birthright for the Japanese aesthetic (rather than Nohr's Western influence), brighter color palette, and characters. However, I admit that Nohr's mechanics kind of appeal to me because they remind me a bit more of Path of Radiance, which was the game I spent the most time with.

I agree with Hours Left's recommendations: the difficulty settings, choice between Casual and Classic Mode (permadeath), and option of the new Phoenix Mode (characters revive immediately after being killed) should make every version of the game very accessible.

Since release outside of Japan is still months away, the attention it's getting should soon die down.

Oh heck yeah, I don't mean to be ungrateful! Any progress is good. I just feel kinda left out as someone who only played Awakening and isn't interested in dissecting this new one. I'm less invested than a lot of people I guess?

I don't think the community thread is the place for me, probably, but is that true about conquest? I thought it was more like old school fire emblem for the people who hated the only one I enjoyed. If I can play it without having to restart over and over then I'll probably get this one.

Hurrah I'm not alone! I guess there'll be more opportunities to talk about it closer to it's international release, but I'll probably forget about it :p

There's two modes for beginners, Casual Mode, which revives everyone that died at the end of the battle, and the new Phoenix Mode, which revives anyone who dies on the very next turn. If you don't want to keep restarting, either of these modes should help you.

If you don't want to venture into any other threads, but still have questions, I could try answer them if you want.

Ah, okay! I knew casual was back in Birthright but I thought they left it out of the other version! It's not that I don't want to go to other threads, it's just that I don't think I'm really enough of a fan that I'd have anything to contribute to a discussion? But thanks for the help! I can't think of anything to ask at the moment though.

I don't think you need to worry about that, the OT is for everyone, but I can understand if you feel a bit out of place being new to the series.

If you think of anything just let me know.

It's not Fire Emblem related, but were you aware of the fanmade Persona 4 Gay Dating Sim? Just wondering since you're like the guy for that sort of thing round these parts...

I'm in the opposite boat when it comes to version. I'd want to marry a woman (even though the choice is terrible) but if I were to get the game I would want Nohr. I know Hoshido will have higher difficulty settings, but if Awakening is anything to go by they'll be woefully inadequate.

No actually. It's the first I've heard of it. Is it any good?

I wonder if it is worth it to get both versions
Japan got a special edition with both versions included, plus the third DLC campaign. Hopefully we'll get that here as well.

I wouldn't have anything against them being sadists if it wasn't such a common stereotype when it comes to gay characters.

Oh gee, a lesbian/bi woman that's also a stalker where have I seen that before? http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/PsychoLesbian
