If you have a garage, I recommend keeping the litter box and food in there. I installed cat doors to give access back and forth for my pet. Reduces pet smells considerably, and you don't have to be nearly as nitpicky over litter box messes in the garage.I think I'm getting a kitten this year.
Another tip: buy a big storage tote from Walmart for $5, and cut a hole in the side large enough for a cat to fit in. Bam, you have a cheap enclosed litter box.
