Lightning gets Aeirth (FFVII) costume for Lightning Returns

I'm crossing my fingers for Lightning in a Lulu costume. *fingers crossed* (for she can cast more powerful magic spells, of course)

I'm actually pretty excited for this game!

I for one don't think I will care for FF by year 2020 . I've almost already lost interest in the series thanks to Toriyama bullshit I'm still wating for XV becasue of Versus and how I liked that reveal year ago. I can't let it go but after the game will finally be released...
Well, I personally doubt SE will even exist by 2020, at least, not in the way they do now.

Even with Toriyama's cup size increase I don't think she'd be able to pull it off.

I'm still anticipating Lightning Returns - the game itself looks fun to me and I really enjoyed FFXIII and FFXIII-2 for what they were, - but this looks... wrong. It doesn't fit the character at all. The Cloud costume makes some sense, this one does not. It honestly reeks of cheapness and desperation.

all these costumes reeks of dlc $$$

TO BE CONTINUED.

Seriously, though, I can't be alone in this. There must be others out there who, in spite of XIII's disappointments, liked Lightning and were okay with the plot, but who just can't stand what XIII itself has become. It's so stupidly removed from where it began.

The end of XIII was fine. They should have left the book closed...but now... they've fucked the world and characters so hard there's just no consistency any more. It's a move that definitely doesn't deserve to be defended.

Speaking of, I'm a little unsure how the costumes work. It's not that movesets are tied to them, right? But rather, a player can customize which moves, equipment, and costume are tied to a particular schema, and it's these schema that are switched between in battle? Or am I off somewhere?

If we're lucky he'll keep making more awesome games so you'll rage more.

The only decent thing about his games are some of the gameplay systems. The characters, dialogue and story tend to range from bad to terrible. I wouldn't exactly call his games "awesome" especially after playing other FFs made by other people besides Toriyama.

My guess is it will be like Final Fantasy X-2, when you put on a different costume, you have different abilities.

The costumes give you stats and each ones seems to have one fixed ability.

I'll agree that Toriyama games get FAR, FAR more flak than they deserve, but really, just about everyone else has done better at the helm of FF.
(Interesting how "Worst FF in recent memory" is still a damn good game)

Just curious, is there hype for this game in Japan?
Or is it just the rest of the world that is ready to move on?

Do you think it'll be hard to avoid spoilers?
Either way, I am confident in my ability to enjoy the game regardless.

well I'll certainly avoid any spoiler filled threads until I finish the game myself...I am one person who doesn't take spoilers too lightly.

I'd avoid the launch trailers and the last batch of trailers as well.Square enix tends to go INSANE with their story trailers as release approaches...They do spoil stuff for their games quite easily.

Which awesome game has he made exactly? Haha wow dude I know some people like them but the majority of fans detest these iterations... they are by far the least successful of the recent FF games. There are almost no redeeming qualities imo.

It's ok. Surely XIII-4 will be amazing and make up for everything.

Had to look it up, so FF13-2 in Japan sold around half a million in the first week.

I'm actually more curious to know how much they set aside for the PR for this now.

Didn't XIII have a tragically quick and high-volume re-sale rate in Japan? I can only imagine what XIII-2 had. (And what this upcoming highly demanded sequel will have.)

Blatant disrespect.

I wonder what they'll make her "pay homage" to next. Sephiroth? Terra? Vivi?

Interesting. Thanks. The battle system sounds pretty interesting either way, but in this case I'd prefer having the freedom to customize movesets and looks mostly separately, without one being overly tied to the other. Different costumes emphasizing different stats, and having only one fixed ability, sounds good, though.

Maybe that is why we are seeing these costumes come full force now.
Expecting those quick returns, get some sort of return from the used market on DLC content.

I don't understand the first pages of this thread. You'd think they were showing a Muhammad costume or something. It is a costume, in a game full of costumes (and most people posting probably don't even care about the game).

I think that's what bothers me most, really. XIII was done and over. It wasn't the best ending in the series, but it was good enough, you know? Like, I was like "Okay, I can live with this and accept this." XIII-2 is so stupidly different from XIII, though. The characters, the story, everything is just so different and inconsistent with XIII, and now there's got to be at least this one more game to clean up that mess.

I think I've said this before, but XIII-2 would have been a MUCH better game if it had severed all ties from XIII. If it had been a story about a guy meeting an idiot girl and traveling through time to save the world and her also. Hell, it could've been another part of the FNC, but the connection to XIII just really kills it, and simultaneously makes XIII look worse than it was.

And LR, I just don't know what's even going on anymore. Like, I know that it's supposed to have only the most tenuous of connections to Type-0, but it just seems wholly inconsistent with XIII, too. When you look at XIII you can at least see that the mythologies work similarly. Both have the war between Pulse and Lindzei, both have Pulse and Lindzei trying to open Etro's gate, and when Etro's gate does open, comparable things happen. Both stories focus on Pulse L'Cie and the Pulse L'Cie found there in function similarly, with the key difference being
there are no Cie'th in Type-0.

Neither one really has time travel, or Etro's Seeress, or chaos, or Valhalla.

the amount of fuming and hatred for this game is hilarious. it's from the same group all the time; who have all basically confirmed that they'll be buying this anyways from their obsessive behaviour and indepth knowledge about every piece of info that comes out. never seen such absurdity.

They're taking something highly beloved and nostalgic to the fanbase, and transparently using it as a desperate attempt to try and win-over fans with a game/product/character that players have clearly and firmly expressed dislike for. How anyone would think this'd be a smart move is beyond me. Nevermind that Lightning as a stoic/headstrong/tough character would be a terrible fit for an Aerith (or Yuna costume.) The Cloud costume was already shameless and disgusting as it is, but at least that one kinda fit with her character.

It just shows a blatant lack of respect to the integrity of their own works on SE's part. (But I guess the cow left the barn regarding that topic long, long ago.)

I bought XIII used and completely avoided XIII-2 and will absolutely avoid this third installment. There's no way I'm rewarding this mess with my money. Doesn't mean I don't know all about the XIII saga and all its shortcomings. It's hard to ignore a train-wreck.

But you know, your acting like you're above this when you've come into the thread and made several posts about it is so not a part of that.

What a piss poor reason. How can you value a silly dress up gimmick over good characters and story? Ridiculous. Theres no supporting their focus on something like this when they so blatantly ignored the core game itself. Costumes and dress up should be a side thing.

Uh, who said I did? Why do it have to be one or the other? Also, they didn't ignore the core game itself. These are apart of the core game since classes and dressing up plays a big part to the game and affect Lightning's abilities. I have to wonder do people actually pay attention to anything said about the game or just bitch just for the sake of it, no offense.

New fads sure explain how the less popular game series like Dead or Alive still gets many doujins and fapwork.

My understanding is that anime receives the bulk of fap material creation, with the occasional exception like Hatsune Miku and Idolmaster. Despite the attempts with all these fetish outfits, the "cosplay designs" are lacking in some way that just cannot compete with the better character designs of anime and other games. More simply, the game is not popular, Lightning doesn't really capture the interest of many, and pretending the amount of fap material doesn't reflect this (blaming the artists, who have no interest in her?) isn't going to negate her lack of popularity.

Uh, I need to correct you on this. Dead or Alive aren't getting many doujins and fapwork like that...you can take my word for it on that considering I spend a lot of free time indulging in the lewd works.

The dude you quoted is right that a lot of artists usually go on fad kicks or focus on the next big things. I don't exactly blame the artists either. Lightning does get a lot of one-shot Hoperai cutesy non-H artwork though on sites like Deviantart and the like.

But nice try. Trying to twist this as yet another negative for the series.

But you know, your acting like you're above this when you've come into the thread and made several posts about it is so not a part of that.

I truly do not understand it though. FF7 has already been whored out to a thousand different thing. It has several spin-offs (some most of which received a terrible reception), a movie, light novels, has appeared in a bunch of FF crossover games (and let us not forget Ehrgeiz lol), and is referenced very often. LR has a shitload of costumes (seemingly dozens upon dozens) including those pulling from a bunch of Final Fantasys and FF7 happens to be one of them. My brain can't process this anger.

Also I don't understand where the "shame" is suppose to be coming from? Should Capcom and co feel be ashamed when they put referential costumes into SFIV? Then you have the "Tales of" games lol.

Exactly. The posts like that are just as bad if not more annoying than the complaining.

I would think the complaining be more annoying considering how extreme and irrational it is. Nothing wrong with not liking what you see or anything but a lot of these posts are so darn extreme and bordering on blind, batshit crazy hate when it comes to anything relating to the FFXIII series that had I not known any better would've thought everyone was just joking around. The fact that every so many pages in these LR threads you get non-FF fans wondering wtf is going on should clue you all in.

Well because people care about FF and we haven't had a good FF game in what 8 years? But they continue churning out meh quality sequels of a meh game.

Final Fantasy 10 was the first console game I every played. I really care about this series. I like that you think that were just complaining for no goddamn reason but its so fucking frustrating to see the franchise go down the drain with this tripe. But you know close your eyes and block your ears and keep trying to belittle our opinions.

How exactly is it irrational? Sorry if you want to go play dress up barbie you can do it with whatever other third rate Japanese games you want but this is fucking Final Fantasy. The fact that their insulting real good characters by giving Lightning their costumes is pathetic and the bikini skins is down right embarrassing. The brand used to communicate a type of experience and quality that they are flushing down the drain.

Samyy, if you don't want to change Lightning's outfit in the game, then don't. If other people want to, that's not your business and you don't need to bring them down by posting your negative comments.

I would never try to belittle your opinions and I'm sorry if it seem that way. Just pointing out how extreme it is.

Your second paragraph is what I mean about irrational and extreme. "This is fucking Final Fantasy" and? The series that reboots itself every entry? The series with a ridiculous amount of spinoffs? The series that had an entry that you could change how your main girls on the fly? That series? Ok.

How is it an insult to give Lightning cameo costumes of other FF characters? The other FF characters aren't some godlike untouchable masterpieces or some shit. Its freaking fan service! Where is all this hate when it comes to cameo costumes for Tales of games? Where is this hate for being able to make Sharla, Seven, Fiona, and Melia almost butt ass naked in the supposedly GOTF Xenoblade? Where is all this hate for cameo costumes in SFxT? Where was all this hate for goddamn cameo costumes in Dissidia?
I swear to god this is the only game in all my years of gaming I've ever seen such craziness for freaking cameo costumes.
