I just think XIII could be someone's VII growing up, it's entirely possible that a new generation of FF fans that think VII looks like absolute garbage and Lightning is the best character ever. And sprite FFs are just multi-colored shit meshed together.

Well if there's one thing SE does not need right now is for their big tent-pole RPG franchise that already has problems with getting games out in a timely fashion to be tied to one slow working director.
I'd be okay with that, considering Final Fantasy direct sequels are basically the worst thing to happen to the series. A match made in heaven.
I feel like the costumes are the only thing they're showcasing for the game, since the game itself doesn't seem that interesting.
That wouldn't be bad.

There's one thing I really dig the battle system, reminds me a lot of Valkyrie Profile, and the demo ran pretty good on PS3, despite trailer impressions.

What a piss poor reason. How can you value a silly dress up gimmick over good characters and story? Ridiculous. Theres no supporting their focus on something like this when they so blatantly ignored the core game itself. Costumes and dress up should be a side thing.

This is me as well.
I liked Lightning a decent amount (though I have always preferred Fang, Sazh, Snow) and really enjoyed XIII as a whole. It had it's problems but I was very happy over all.
Then they announced XIII-2, and shoved Lightning into Dissidia 012 as the lead.....yeah any postive feelings I had for the character was quickly destroyed and now even the thought that she was in XIV ARR almost made me skip the game all together.

Yup, I also liked XIII Lightning quite a bit and also found the plot serviceable up to Chapter 10. But it needed to end at XIII. It has become so painfully obvious that they never planned anything past XIII it isn't even funny any more.
I was even okay with her in 012 since she was new and Dissidia is the kind of series for that.
But seriously it baffles me how people can't see why people would be annoyed by her now. We have at least two separate threads for DLC COSTUMES. Holy shit. Every time you turn around it's another Lightning thing.
And I say this as someone who is a fan of FFIV, which gets remade FREQUENTLY. I know full well why some people don't like that, even if I disagree. Because every time you get a new system you get Cecil again.
Lightning is like Cecil except rather than wait for a new console generation to rear her head again she's everywhere all the time, and all these new appearances are her shitty, post XIII self, and serve as a reminder that FFXIII was nothing but a huge lie and series of broken promises and wasted potential.
Thank God for Type-0, or the FNC this generation would've been the largest waste of time, money, and face in the industry.
Even type Zero was infected with Lightning thanks to Seven. As for Dissidia, couldn't disagree more. She did nothing but bring the game down. Maybe if they didn't try to force her ass into the Lead when they had her be such a one note character it wouldn't have been so painful.
Wait till they make Lightning a party member in KH3 : or an integral part of the story.

Seven is Lightning without the awful, though. And I thought Lightning in Dissidia was fun to play as, which was all that really mattered to me. Plus she was FF13 Lightning and not post-XIII Lightning. And she told Cosmos to fuck off, and between Lightning and Cosmos, I'd sooner choose Lightning, because FUCK Cosmos.
Well, what do you define as appearance? Because she also dresses like Lightning, minus the cape. She's got the bike shorts which she isn't afraid to show off, and she does a lot of flips during combat, too, so there's that.
Also she has a
few lesbian tease moments with another party member, so there's that.

She's also a very well-written character with a surprising amount of depth along with a genuine romance that doesn't feel like she's in love with the protagonist just because the plot deemed it (Rinoa).
The rampant fan-gushing over her "aesthetics" have always felt detrimental to a legitimately strong female character. Sure, she's attractive, but many of the fan interpretations have moved far past whatever suggestive line they wanted to take and usually just goes full porno.
Which is why I'm hoping really hard Toriyama doesn't put her costume in the game, because there's no way he'll show any manner of class about it. He already destroyed Aya Brea, I don't need him ruining another great character, even if it's just her outfit.

All the costumes looked better on the original character. All looks so wrong on Lightning as well.
