And for me it is the opposite. The price is irrelevant, I wouldn't be getting the Steam Machine to save money somehow, and the xbox could be half of the cost and I wouldn't want it, like I don't want it now.If this thing costs only 100 less than Microsoft's upcoming superpowered hybrid, then it's a no brainer that I'm spending that extra 100 and buying the Xbox for next-gen power.
I'm guessing windows is your deal breaker? And for me it is the opposite. The price is irrelevant, I wouldn't be getting the Steam Machine to save money somehow, and the xbox could be half of the cost and I wouldn't want it, like I don't want it now.
Traditional console gamers like us are dinosaurs on the way to extinction. Kids these days don't care about console brands.Hardly matters to console gamers.
This thing needs to compete with the console market to be relevant, and having an infinite amount of random Steam games won't matter much, because it's not like we are not getting all the games we want on PS5 and Series. I can't name a single game available on Steam, that I want to play, and that is not Series.
And there are also games available on Series that are not on Steam, on top of it...
Not really, just don't see much interest in the console ecosystem. I can plug this thing into my TV and myself and other people can use it with my huge PC catalog without any fuss. That's pretty much it.I'm guessing windows is your deal breaker?
I thought steam deck was cheap'ish because they did subsidized some of the cost of the hardware because of the money they made with steam. They make a console like pc with a console like interface, even had a gaming handheld pc with a reasonable price yet they potentially wanna charge maybe around the price of ps5 pro. This is like them bringing out the steam deck now (with it's 2022 specs), and charging considerably more than the switch 2.
Luke is so out-of-touch if he thinks this weak sauce spec'd PC can justify a higher than PS5 price point.
"Its more versatile, you can compute on it."
Its clearly meant and marketed for the living room, not for a general PC setup.
Spot on. It is in this context that this product should be regarded, imo.A toy for already settled PC gamers.
This is what next gen xbox will allow. Likely. Not really, just don't see much interest in the console ecosystem. I can plug this thing into my TV and myself and other people can use it with my huge PC catalog without any fuss. That's pretty much it.

Why compare it to the Pro?No pay to play online easily makes up the difference in price to the Pro. What is the cheapest price for PS Plus per year? Multiply that by generation length.
We're beyond disc drives, at this point. Enthusiasts who want that for other means, will know what to do. I do.Disc drive is meaningless for PC we don't want it on console for fun, we have to have it to play physical games.
What physical games do I need to play on PC that I could fit and would take the time to burn to a disc?
In the physical games for PC thread earlier today they accomplished this with memory cards. Even easier with a simple external drive. Also usb disc drives exist for next to nothing.
No disc needed. That said....I was kinda hoping for $499.99.
Yes it will.Is not going to punch above the PS5/SX with those specs… sadly.

You can build a better system for $700-750Tom Henderson is speculating that it's going to cost 849/999 for the two models btw.

This guy speculates $399. Makes some decent arguments for it.
Megabonk not on console :, (Hardly matters to console gamers.

That's what the next Xbox is also promising. So at this point the sell for you must be the OS, right? Not really, just don't see much interest in the console ecosystem. I hope you are right. No way they would be this close.
Gabe cube is more like a Series S with a few extra teraflops.
Xbox Magnus should be on a different level.

You're missing the point that it was already happening before PS4 turned consoles into mini-PC's.You are getting a few FPS gain, if that. People need to let go of the whole optimization, coding to the metal etc - it isn't happening.
You seem to be really having a meltdown over this hardwareIt's impossible $500, anyone who understands mini-ITX knows that the compact form factor increases the price. Want a tip ? Buy a gaming laptop; you can connect it to the TV, play games without a TV using its screen, and it even comes with Windows where you can play Valorant and COD.
man ps5 is $400, forget this cheat
That option has always existed.just make own PC then. if someone worry about portability, small form factor exist.
No, it's not the Steam Machine; it doesn't do upgrades.
I won't try to convince you, I just think Valve designed a flop product, that's my opinion.
You can build a pc that small yourself?just make own PC then. if someone worry about portability, small form factor exist.
You realize you can freely check all the benchmarks about PC handhelds running SteamOS and Windows? It's not about coding to the metal, it's about not having POS OS because now finally there is an alternative. You are getting a few FPS gain, if that. I don't know what this means. They can't promise something they don't control, like steam. I'm not allergic to Windows, I'm obviously using it right now. Microsoft sucks, lies all the time, and I am not interested in whatever AI infested hybrid console thing you are talking about. Plug in Steam Machine, sign into steam, hand wife controller. That's what the next Xbox is also promising. So at this point the sell for you must be the OS, right?
Asrock Deskmeet X600 is 218×168x219Smallest ITX case I'm aware of is the Lian Li A4 h20

The next Xbox is being poised to be a hybrid console. That means it will have Windows OS along with being able to play Xbox games. This means you can just play steam, GoG, EGS, etc. titles on it.I don't know what this means.

Then it's literally an OS issue for you. You can't say it's not and then some of your problems are involving their OS and most of your solutions are involving steam OS.Plug in Steam Machine, sign into steam, hand wife controller.
Doubtful. Don't think you can buy a motherboard with dedicated GPU built in. Smallest ITX case I'm aware of is the Lian Li A4 h20

Steam Deck: 152x162x156

No, it isn't, and I'm not interested in purchasing a hybrid console computer from Microsoft at all. not on the list in the same way that a PS5 isn't on the list. It's a non-starter, there was never a choice between those options. The Steam Machine will fit exactly the use case I have for it. I'm not interested in "bang for the buck here" I already have that and have had that for decades with my gaming PCs. I'm not comparing specs because specs aren't the reason that I am interested, there are other factors. many of them, that come together to make this in particularly attractive package. Then it's literally an OS issue for you.

Why are you speaking for all console gamers? They aren't a monolith. Do you realise how popular PC gaming is with the youth? Thanks to twitch and YouTube. This gives many an easy way into PC gaming without worrying about foibles that come with being a traditional windows desktop. Don't get me wrong I'm still sticking with my windows desktop for now but I see how this is very appealing to many people who always wanted to play PC games but either couldn't afford or were intimidated by the traditional desktop experience
