Lollipop Chainsaw |OT| Nothing makes you forget about a bad E3 like a lollipop!

No exclusive content. If you have the option, maybe got the 360 build. It's a UE3 engine game, and a Grasshopper one at that, so I suspect little technical details perform better on the Xbox.

Cheers,

I'll probably go for the PS3 version in this case purely for my convenience as i'm not too bothered by the small details.

The PS3 version works fine for me. Quite a few loads that people seem annoyed by, but they haven't bothered me. The only real problem I've noticed is slow texture LOD load, a common problem with PS3 UE3 games. Same problem Shadows of the Damned had. Sometimes an environment will load, such as after dying, and everything will be coated in a horrendous low LOD texture before the detailed ones load into the memory.

So can someone explain what you need to do to get the best ending? I guess the bad ending is
zombie mom?

I'd like to know as well. I picked it up at launch and haven't been able to dig into it yet. I just want to know what to do to achieve a better ending, as my console gaming time isn't wide open enough to go for a second play through.

Also, I forgot quoting reveals spoiler text. Shit.

so if I was bored out of my mind in the very first stage of No More Heroes is there any chance at all that I'll like this game?

There's more depth to the combat, a lot more, but probably not.

Lollipop Chainsaw's best quality is also its worst: it's all about combat. Great because the combat works very well. Bad because the starting combat is frankly shitful by comparison to what you unlock.

It's dumbfounding. I guess they wanted to build skill progression, empower players later in the game with a sense of growth, and offer plenty of incentive to go back to earlier stages with your new combos. And unlock more abilities. But the basics of starter combat start the game off on a dud note, in my opinion.

Fine if you're enjoying it and push through, because it's still enjoyable, but bad for people who are easily soured by lukewarm first impressions. It's a pure combat game that gives you the weakest combo set right out the gate. Durr.

I beat the game last night and got the bad ending. I really love this game and can't wait to go through and get all the achievements and unlock everything. Does anyone have any tips for beating the
gondola
minigame without
shooting
?

Has anyone yet answered or figured out how you can get the bad ending if you initially get the good one?

No idea.I basically left one on the prologue in order to get the achievement. But my wild guess might be starting the game again. (Make a back up of your current save file so after you get bad ending return to all the stuff you had)

From the IGN review:

"For every zombie Juliet Starling decapitates with her chainsaw, someone calls her a whore, talks about masturbating to her, or comments on her gigantic breasts. In and out of combat, the primary goal of Lollipop Chainsaw is the money shot, whether it’s up Starling’s skirt or down her shirt."

Not that I give a shit either way, but I just think it is comical how nobody even raises an eyebrow at how women are portrayed in content like this, but go ape shit over some thug trying to take advantage of Lara in the new Tomb Raider. Anyway, I think this looks quite fun and am looking forward to playing it at some point. I just thought this was funny.

Well, been playing Stage 5 a lot and...

So close to that A+... ;_; I did thiz on Very Hard difficulty though so it naturally takes longer...

I had so many cards that were all A+'s but one A... ugh.

The review seems like they played the whole game with the starting move set.

God Hand of this generation! LOL

We finally have a succesor to the legendary God Hand review.

He's straight up full of shit.

Called it earlier in the thread. Though.. godhand was longer.... maybe a bit too long though.

Because this is extremely satirical in nature while that has a much more serious tone. You're not supposed to take this seriously in any way, shape, or form. Also nobody is going to buy this.

I don't take any game too seriously, but I guess that is just me. I just like to have fun playing them.

I was able to resist buying this game for a whole two days after seeing it on a stream. Thank goodness Amazon is selling it for $45. It gets here on Saturday. Can't wait!

So would you guys say it is on par with Shadows of the Damned? I loved that game.

They're very, very different, but I think as a whole Shadows was a notably better game. I fucking loved Shadows though.

this game really shines post game. that means a lot coming from me because I can count on 1 hand the games I've played post campaign... including multiplayer

Im curious to know what makes you think SOTD is the better game? I loved it to pieces too and was my GOTY last year. I have a feeling LC might end being in the same boat.

I love how the phonecalls you get are so completely random, and usually have nothing to do with the situation at hand. The Rosalind and lost puppy one near the end of the game was great. Though overall I like her character way too much, one of the most eccentric characters in a video game ever.

Also, when you guys do the nick's head on zombie body... do you hear Juliet cheering about Nick making her wet? I can't make it out, but I swear I'm hearing something along those lines.

I still have much time to spend on Lollipop Chainsaw so my opinion my sway. But I felt in terms of channelling Resident Evil 4, and as a third person shooter that relied on accurate shooting without a cover system, Shadows of the Damned hit the nail right on the head. Great variety in locations, encounters, enemies, and battle tactics were topped by a brilliant sense of humour, great art and incredible soundtrack.

A friend described Shadows of the Damned as a like playing through a heavy metal album, and that's the best way I could describe it. Outside of a lack of unlockables (the only big flaw I'd give the game), I felt Shadows of the Damned was a loaded game.

Lollipop is good, but for level design and encounters it feels several notches below. Largely because it's shorter, and relies more on replay value and the a combat system cornerstone. Shadow's design appeals to me more. And, even though I love Lollipop's style, on a technical level it feels like a cheaper game to me. Shadows was more cohesive and rich looking.

I really loved Shadows, is what I'm saying :p.

Is this game really like that? I personally find stuff like this annoying (people yelling whore and talking about jerking off, really!?) Also people tend to ignore sexism in games like this as its too silly, but I in that TR trailer I was really uncomfortable watching that brief part.

Gameplay a 5? I really don't understand this guy's review. I never had problems using Juliet's basic combos to take on zombies in the first few levels of the game. Of course it got better once I started unlocking the more powerful combos, but I never felt like it was broken at the beginning.

I wonder if people writing reviews like this are failing to take advantage of the combo-breaking dodge ability. I robustly, you can dodge out of almost anything short of Juliet's larger chainsaw swings - and you can do so repeatedly. It's not quite Bayonetta but it works effectively. Also, this isn't the type of game where you just let zombies surround you and start mashing on the chainsaw button and expect do do well. Use dodge to get the zombies all in front of you - then start a pom pom - chainsaw combo and you're golden. Use some strategy and it goes a long way.

Yes. The game is loaded with juvenile, sexist humour. The difference between something like this and Tomb Raider is the latter takes itself seriously. Lollipop Chainsaw can be best equated to an exploitation film. It's sexist, foul, perverted, and it unashamedly wears these qualities on its sleeve.

If you're not into that kind of stuff, even when it's self aware and very deliberate, then you'd be best to stay away from Lollipop Chainsaw. This is the kind of game where in the span of 15 seconds during opening filmclip you have a character alluding to sex in her bedroom, along with the fact she's just turned 18.

I love Shadows of the Damned but the 2D filler sections and the boner sections almost ruin the game for me. Otherwise a great game that lacked new game + and unlockables. Lollipop Addresses most of the complains of Shadows of the Damned and makes it shorter in that way but they added the scores to add replayability which SOTD lacks. Overall I think Lollipop wins for the sake of no filler and replay value. Shadows of The Damned still looks better visually and the game is still unique on the era of generic games as all Grasshopper games are.

I'm a HUGE koei warriors fan but SW3 on Wii was legitimately terrible. That review is in no way similar to the god hand situation

No it wasn't -and that doesn't even matter since he trashes the game simply for being a "warriors" title anyway- so opinion doesn't even matter. It's just a flat-out horrible review by someone who clearly decided that he hated the game, and its genre, before he even played it.

Guess he was mad he didn't get to review Halo or whatever.

Wow, I feel like a teenager who has no concept of how to be a proffessional reviewer wrote that. What was the point of even putting that review up because I guarantee he played it for an hour or so.

I thought the same. It's always humorous when a small, more niche title gets called out for being the same thing over and over again, but generic military FPS #094034034003223 gets a 9 or a 10 and yearly sports title gets high marks!

I'll pay the 2D sections, but only because I don't feel they should have been reused as many times as they were. I still enjoyed them though. As for the boner, I found it not only quite easy, but also very enjoyable.

Boner, like Dead Space asteroids, remains one of those baffling things where people complain about something that I had a completely different experience with.

In the case of Lollipop Chainsaw? Not at all. Same reason the over sexualisation in a movie like Planet Terror doesn't bother me. It fits the cliché, exploitation style of the game, and the dialogue itself is quite funny.

When a story takes itself very serious, misogyny comes across as cruel and perverted (in the wrong way). An exploitation of women to appease male fantasies rooted in superiority and hatred. An argument could be made for misogyny in Lollipop Chainsaw, but the style is so deliberately dumb it's moreso appeasing...boners, really. It's like porn.

EDIT: I'm probably making it sound worse than it actually is. The humour revolves around sexualisation and American teen clichés. It's a little bit Bully, a little bit Saint's Row 3, and a little bit teen flick. Wrapped in a self aware exploitation film vibe.

I enjoyed NMH 1&2, I loved Shadows of the Damned. I wanted to love this game; however, a few things have kept me from feeling the love. I did not like all the button prompts, or the length, I also found on my first playthrought the combat was pretty shallow. I did love the characters, music, and humour. I am on the verge of whether I should trade this bad boy in...
I do recommend anyone to rent this game to experience the crazyiness it has to offer.

Love both games and cant pick a favorite though I'm still pissed that SOTD didn't have a game + :(

BTW If anyone is interested I have the soundtrack for SOTD. Also gonna rip the soundtrack for this game(anyone know how many tracks there are?)

I fucking loved SotD, but it had a lot of flaws that held it back. I don't hate the boner section nearly as much as many seem to, but it did go on for too long and those dull 2d sections were nearby. The core abilities were pretty overpowered and the game was too easy(I started on Hard). Garcia's roll was crazily invincible and could actually hit enemies and remove darkness shields from them, and the light shot taking up no ammo made it really spammable later on. Then on top of this you get the Dentist which is crazy powerful.

The only 'difficult' thing was the insane amount of health the bosses got on hard. It took me over 45 minutes of constant fighting to beat the final boss, though that may have been glitched.

But atleast on a core sense, the actual shooting worked well and the locales/music were all amazing.

Boner, like Dead Space asteroids, remains one of those baffling things where people complain about something that I had a completely different experience with.

I will never get why people thought the Boner part was hard, yeah.

The Dead Space asteroids had a lot of premade patterns that could pass through. Many of them were stupid hard, some of them were piss easy. Luck of the draw on that, and I started to notice the repeats when I kept failing on replays.

I enjoyed the first two acts of Shadows but the game kind of fell off for me from the 2D sections onward. Not only that though, I feel that Lollipop is a lot more fun to play while I felt that Shadows was a poor man's RE4 without any interesting mechanics to distinguish it. I still had fun shooting shit though. I also do appreciate the fact that Lollipop relies more on replay value, although I didn't find the game nearly as short as other people claimed.

Lollipop is honestly some of the most fun I've had with a game this generation.

Just finished the
O'Bannon Farm.
This game is trippy as hell and I love it. B movie game atmosphere like this are some of my favorite. Nothing is serious.

And the lines beginning of the next level:

"Look at these zombie geeks playing zombie games killing zombies."

"Yeah, if we kill them it would be totally meta."

This game. And the more combos I unlock the more satisfying this gets. The Armadillo Spin and Maelstrom Spin might be my favorite moves so far.

I found Juliet's portrayel consistant with Garcia. Over the top, gratuitious and all in good fun.
