Micheal Phelps also deserves credit for elevating interest in swimming in general, especially in America. The women's gymnastics team asked to get a picture with Phelps in the cafeteria before the games. Gymnastics & Track easily used to be more popular Olympic events as recently as Athens and before Phelps the scenario was usually reversed. Phelps single handedly has made the sport big enough to allow swimmers in America besides himself to get enough endorsement money to train year round. Before Phelps almost all US swimmers had to hang their suits up after college and retire.

Now that he's about to walk away from the sport people are looking for the next swimming star, and that is probably going to be Missy Franklin to some extent if she is willing to make the sacrifices Phelps did.
 
Fun fact about this Turkey x Brazil match, the turkish coach is brazilian, and the Brazil coach works in Turkey and knows most of the turkish players...

yeah it's working better for me too. Thing is the NBC web coverage is actually pretty good. It's every event live (as it should be) and the quality from the US at least is better than the BBC one. Plus the watching 2 events at the same time thing is cool too, with the fast switching between them. Plus quick rewind. It's just the locking up after 15 mins or so issue.

Can't we open like multiple steam windows on the BBC website? I saw someone with a screenshot. That little video on NBC is meh.
 
This volleyball match is brilliant, I really hope Turkey can win after that comeback.

The Brazilian coach (manager?) looks like he's about to have a nervous breakdown everytime the camera goes to him.

well it's not watching the little screen that's the cool part, it's just keeping an eye on waiting for one event to start or get to a good part, while watching another, then quick swapping them. They were pretty useful to me today a few times anyway. I don't see what's so bad about the nbc site coverage other than the streaming issues (which are huge). I hope they fix them. And the ads which are meh but to be expected. The nbc tv coverage on the other hand, is a joke.

edit: oh forgot to mention (because i have it) but the subscriber requirement is ridiculous. Yeah forgot about that. Even though I have cable, fuck NBC for that.

It could have be so much easier. That 18-10 turnaround just can't happen again. Ridiculous. Awesome match though. the turkey team is very good, that's an awesome surprise.
