Then of course the WRs from 4 years ago are going to be hard to attain!

yep. in sport decided by 100ths of seconds having people shave 2 - 4 seconds off their times is difficult.

when those suits first came out, experienced swimmers were taking seconds of their times over 200m, it was ridiculous

The article I linked said that in the 17 months after that super suit hit the market, over 130 world record times were beaten. That's pretty dramatic.

The commercial was already airing even before Lochte won guys lol. I will admit that Lochte sounded really salty when he said he knows he could beat Phelps every time he got off the blocks. That sounds like someone bitter about being in Phelps' shadow for 4 years.

so motors in the TdF then??

Not the same. The suits don't propel the swimmers through the water. This would be like banning the suits the cyclists wear, which are aerodynamic down to the fiber. Since everyone is wearing one, what difference does it make? PEACE.

An NBC Sports Group spokesperson said via email from London, “We are quite aware of the chatter on Twitter about the Olympics and we embrace it. We feel that the increased buzz on social media helps to drive awareness of the Games.”

Regarding the tape delay, the spokesperson wrote, “Our extensive research shows that viewers prefer watching the Olympics when they able to watch the Games most conveniently, which in most cases is in primetime, when they are home with their families. If fans want to, they can verify with their cable, satellite or telco companies and watch every minute of competition live on NBCOlympics.com.”

SMH.

golf has banned various things (look up square grooves), the NFL are always tweaking the rules, TdF cycles HAVE to weigh X kg, you're an F1 fan, F1 cars can be much much lighter but the FAI mandate 500 odd kg. (and way more powerful)

it's not just swimming.

it changes the sport and the sport wanted a central tenent of itself back, who swims the fastest not who floats the best

So the suits were banned because too many records were falling an not because of swimmers getting a competitive advantage?

They were geting a competitive advantage as not everyone could afford it. From what i remember they were near a $1000 each. At olympic level its one thing but at lower level preliminaries that can make a huge difference.

So even with Live Extra access I can't watch certain events later? I'm locked out of the ones they're showing in tape delayed primetime on NBC and am not able to stream NBC. What the fuck?

Is there any legitimate way to watch Gymnastics / Swimming when I'm away from my TV? I just got out of work and would like to catch up on them.

You can watch any events online when they're live. The tape delayed stuff is just for primetime US viewing and it's stupid. As for watching previous events, you can watch the replay from NBCOlympics.com

If the price/cost thing is true then that makes sense.

I'm not able to replay the swimming finals or any gymnastics. Stupid bullshit.

and you can wear them a max of 4 times if you are lucky. one race or two is about the normal wear

Oh wow, yeah I just looked at that. That's fucking ridiculous. >:[

Can't wait for the Olympics to be in the US again so I don't have to put up with this bullshit from NBC.

One thing I can take away from the first day of the Olympics is that Archery is fucking awesome.

USAvSK and USAvITA were crazy. These people have balls of steel.

Oh wow, they just put "concluded"? "Give us ratings or else!"

It's there, I just did it. I had to click the event. The replay link was missing but the event allowed me to watch it.

It's not clickable for me

Same with beach volleyball and I presume other "prime time" stuff
