Worse Sapain´s start since Seul 88. after 3 days of games they do not get a single medal.

On an survey made by AS ( sport newspaper ) : After football team was eliminated by Honduras 67% of spainsh think that football must be out of olympic games. LOL !!!

Well , I hope they are in the basketball finals with U.S.

Wait, Spain has no medal yet ? We won our first medal (controversially) this evening in what's our worst start since 1968, but now that I learned this I'm gonna root for Spain as well.

GO SPAIN !

A lot of countries are letting me down. Great Britain being the most obvious but Brazil should be getting a boost as they are the next hosts and Australia should be doing better in Swimming.

Random question about swimming: is it some kind of an advantage to get one of the middle lanes? The fastest qualifiers always get them, so I assume there must be some reason for it.

[Volleyball]

It's so tight, but I dunno - I just don't feel that GB are in the same league as their opponents. They're pretty gutsy at defence, but their spikes never really seem to be that effective.

Lol, I've been watching Volleyball for an hour, and I can already make comprehensive, detailed judgements on the performance of 'our' team. Now that is the Olympic spirit.

Is there anyplace I can watch the sync diving on nbc's website. That POS of a website is beyond horseshit.

Probably not. Seems like diving is a "primetime event". They'll stream it live only and if you want to watch it again you gotta watch nbc.

They've done this for gymnastics, swimming, and beach volleyball too.

Women's Individual Fencing - Epee. Mostly for the drama of the second semi-final. Also, after seeing Foil and Sabre styles, I was wanting to see what Epee looked like.

A timing error in the last second of the bout led to a 20-minute delay and a controversial decision in the women's individual epeé semifinal today between South Korean Shin A Lam and German Britta Heidemann, one that has the Korean refusing to leave the piste.

With one second remaining in the match, Heidemann needed to score a touch on Shin to win the match. (Shin would have advanced if they finished the round tied.) The clock then got stuck, allowing Heidemann several extra seconds to score, which she did. Officials then congregated for a long time discussing their options before finally awarding the win (and a chance at the gold medal) to the German.

Shin, in tears, sat down on the piste and has yet to leave. The arena announcer explained to the audience that if she were to leave, it would mean she accepted the decision; since the Korean team is filing an appeal. Even more bizarrely, fencing rules require the Korean team to pay a cash deposit in order to secure an appeal. (Yahoo!'s Maggie Hendricks informs me this is the case in every Olympic sport.)

Something about cleaner water, they're not getting waves bouncing off the walls. Though I've heard of using another swimmer's wake for speed, so who knows.

Saw a replay of Abby Wombach being suckered punch by that other girl. I don't know how hard a 2 game ban would hurt them but that girl should've been kicked out of the Olympics.

Do we have an official statement on the issue yet ? I've heard an explanation that her (and her trainer) not challenging the "restarts" (and the time given) was judged as her accepting the time left, another site is reporting that the time itself was right, just the one on the clock wasn't and another one that the clock got "stuck".
The coach was clearly irritated by the restarts and when it was reset back to "1" he kicked up a shit storm so they absolutely didn't accept the time given.

sorry if i've asked this before but..

its Day 3 and I still cant get any picture from NBC's Live Stream, just sound. Is it just me??

I've tried other streams(espn, twitch ect....) and they work. But NBC's using every browser available, all i get is black screen and some sound.

I dont know but Heidemanns quote on the matter are interesting:

"When there is one second left on the clock it could be one second or one second and 99 hundredths of a second," Heidemann said.

"Whenever there is a hit it always goes back to one second. Maybe they should think about how the times are recorded, maybe there should be half seconds.

"I have experienced this against myself before and I am happy with the decision that was made. The whole discussion was unnecessary."

That's odd. Working fine for me. NBC is using youtube to stream the video, so I can't see why it wouldn't work unless you have youtube blocked or something.

I had this problem on my laptop as well. What worked for me was selecting the full screen option, then minimizing it again. I have no idea if this will work for you, though.

Alright, seems like the most common theory is really the one with "It was actually 1.9 seconds". It's also apparently commonly known in fencing.

This is a pretty good write-up: http://www.heute.de/ZDF/zdfportal/w...nn-gebrochen-Silber-für-Britta-Heidemann.html

I'm too lazy / tired to translate it for the non-German GAF'ers but apparently it looks like Heidemanns hit came just in time with 1/100 of a second left on the clock.

I didn't give a shit about the Olympics before they started and frankly was sick of the hype, now I wish I made more effort and maybe tried for some tickets or something although I bet transport is mad in London not to mention hotels whilst the games are on

While possible, the first remark doesn't match what was shown in the later matches. When the clock hit 0:00, the buzzer rang. When the clock showed 0:01, there was a maximum of one second left.

The second remark sounds like a really stupid rule that needs to be changed.
