Table tennis:

Anyone watch Ding Ning vs Feng Tianwei? Awesome match.

One thing I didn't get... in the last game, at like 10-4, the umpire didn't see the ball touch the table. Feng said it did, and the umpire was like "oh, ok" and awarded her the point. Is it as simple as that?

I watched it, match was fantastic, much closer than I thought it would be. For that point I guess since the Chinese player didn't say anything they just let her have the point.

Did this get posted in the last thread?

Associated Press said:
LONDON (AP) — Olympic fencing officials said Tuesday they had no choice but to reject an appeal by South Korea following the defeat of Shin A-lam in the semifinals of the Olympic women's individual epee.

The South Koreans claimed that Shin's match against Britta Heidemann was already over when the German was awarded the decisive point in the final second Monday, earning her a 6-5 victory.

Fencing officials said in a statement that determining how much time remains in a match is up to the referee. They said they could not "change a question of fact."

The appeal delayed competition more than an hour. Competition rules forced Shin to wait on the fencing strip, leaving the South Korean crying before a crowd of 8,000, before the decision was announced.

Officials said Monday they needed the time to make sure they were following procedures correctly in what they called a "delicate situation."

In its appeal, South Korea questioned the timekeeping toward the end of the match. With one second left on the clock, the match was restarted four times as both players scored simultaneously each time, automatically stopping the clock.

The South Koreans said in their appeal that it impossible for all for actions to happen during one second.

"Who can believe this situation?" they wrote.

Shin later lost her bronze-medal match to Sun Yujie of China, while Heidemann, the defending Olympic champion, went on to lose the final 9-8 to Yana Shemyakina of Ukraine.

Summary: It wasn't something that could be reviewed, and the hour-delay was to make sure it wasn't something that could be reviewed.

Women's Gymnastics current standings:

1. USA
2. Russia
3. China
4. Canada (yass!)
5. Romania
6. Italy
7. GB
8. Japan

USA and Russia are neck on neck.

There is no point in comparing USA, Russia and China in the standings, right now...since the points in vault for instance, are always 2-3 points at-least higher than the rest of the apparatus etc.

There's been a debate about this, but I don't think we've had the official explanation. The problem apparently is that she didn't officially challenge the decision during the match.

Oh I was there for the debate, I was just looking for sources other than the German press with their amazingly precise time-keeping (that no one else had access to).

I haven't watched it yet, CTV usually puts the matches up after they are finished, right now only the women's quarterfinals for this morning are showing up.

Looking forward to Ovtcharov vs Maze and Crisan vs Chuang, I am rooting for the westerners just for diversity sake, a lot of upsets so far.

Now I want to watch it more, damn CTV put the match up!!!
