May not be matched for a very long time. Was seriously a perfect storm of talent and luck. We do fairly well at funding some sports, but it was still setting up some seriously lofty hopes for 2012.

Italy is so going to get this fencing gold. They fucking swept the women's individual foil. They would have to massively choke to lose this.
From what I can tell we have 11 more medal matches in the velodrome, not sure how many gold we'll get there but I reckon that makes or breaks matching/beating that 19 in Beijing.
We've got about 7/8 legit medal contenders in the track and field.

Especially as 2 of the classes we won sailing in have been dropped and we can't win as many in cycling. But I think we're further ahead than we were at the same point in 2008, so if we can pick up some more surprising ones, and play the home advantage a bit, then we could do as well.
I think we could make third. If we somehow pick up a couple some more in the track and field it could happen. But I have no idea of the state of our track and field team.

It's comedic how inaccurate the online NBC schedule is. None of the sports are showing at the times or channels that are indicated. What a joke.
Go Team GB, great cycling Gold and WR.
Feel really sorry for the Chinese cyclists though, much more than the Team GB girls - they clearly made an error and while it sucks the judgement was right; but the Chinese being relegated and losing a deserved gold on a dubious at best replay is unfair in light of there being no chance of appeal. Absurd ruling - there should be some way to overturn that.
