During a conference call with reporters this morning, NBC execs said archery was the hottest sport of the London Games so far, surpassing all other Olympic events in viewership.

The AP reports that an average of 1.5 million people watched the archery competitions when they were on the air. That's more people than tuned in to watch basketball.

NBC Research President Alan Wurtzel called archery "the new curling," and said The Hunger Games phenomenon may have played a significant role in the sport's popularity. "We're going to keep an eye on that," he said.

Entertainment Weekly's Inside TV blog notes that an Olympic archer, Khatuna Lorig, trained Jennifer Lawrence for her part as Katniss Everdeen in the film adaptation of the bestselling book series.

I will love to see him take it. He needs to go home with one individual gold from the London Olympics. Not that he needs it or needs to prove anything, but it will be icing on the cake. Either the 200 IM or the 100 free. That's his only chances left.

Fact is, Lochte's performance demonstrates just how special Phelps 2008 performance was. It's going to be awhile until we see anyone even attempt that record.

They are my national team, surprised no one in the media making that big a fuss about it, although I don't read the mail. And the team still predicting so many medals. We've already dropped a few, although we've picked up a couple of surprises.
