This is the third/fourth game.
Do these sell well enough to warrant a teaser?

I remember the first first one was a Games with Gold game......and i didnt like it.
Was the last one any good?

This game is like the Hot Topic bootleg of Souls. It's like they missed any nuance in From's designs and just put more spikes and edgy on everything. Kind of cracked me up when I watched my friend play it.

I dunno about that, V2.0 is actually pretty good. Its at least trying to add elements to the formula, with the Soul Reaver lamp gimmick and you really can't fault it visually.

Low-key quite optimistic that this could be solid addition to the genre.

The very first one was trash tier. The second one that also happens to be called the same, was an improvement, but significantly worse than even Dark Souls 2. Maybe in 2-3 games from now, they'll be good enough to compete with DkS2 quality.

Jeez most of you guys didn't like the first as I can see , I thought the level design was good, the sound design, the art direction, character animations, voice acting...soundtrack..like everything is good.

I thought it was decent on release, and the post launch support upgraded it significantly. I had a much better time with this than Lies of P.

Hyped.

I replayed the 2.0 update when it came out with my brother and one legitimate criticism to the game that I have and hope they crush it in the sequel is level design and how your character can easily get stuck on the scenery for no apparent reason. I had a few deaths that were bullshit due to that, and I've never had that much trouble on other souls games.

Didn't really like the previous game and that was after lots of patches. Combat felt repetitive, the bosses uninspired and it was just boring to play, plus I wasn't fond of that lamp mechanic at all. Hope they do better with this one.

I hope they ditch the lantern stuff, it is kinda original and you can go crazy with the level design but i just hate that shit :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

They should focus on making a solid fundation before thinking about gimmicks to differentiate the game from the fromsoft games.

In a sea of Soulslike, this didn't click with me to stay the course so probably not so interested unless it's quite different.

patch 1.7 was transformative and it's even better now (2.0).

One the best Souls-likes now to the point that it could ALMOST be the Dark souls 4 that we never got.

It's dirt cheap these days, give it another go

Edit : just saw your last post 😁

Keep the lantern cause it opens up interesting level design and gameplay possibilities. Ditch the mechanic that starts a timer when you enter the other world that starts spawning a buncha shit culminating in an unkillable enemy. It really kills the exploration in the other realm when you constantly have the timer ticking.

I also hope they keep the build/loot variety. Having plenty of varying character builds/equipment is central to my enjoyment of a Soulslike title.

I need to try the first one again. Started it two times already and could never get into its groove - gameplay mechanics always felt convoluted.

Thanks but with the insane amount of games I have to play, I have to give up on those that don't really grab me.

Some aspects of it work really well (syphoning parasites to make the host vulnerable), but I didn't think the alternate traversal added as much as it should.

I never played the original version, just the "2.0" reissue, so its hard for me to say conclusively what they learned over the process, but based on the patch notes it seems to me they did learn enough to solidify the core experience to a point where it felt positive to play.

Movement/combat felt appropriately grounded and weighty, traversal was satisfying, sound effects were meaty, difficulty was very reasonably pitched. Tons of content (it should be stressed that at budget price, it really is excellent value) and the fiction, world-building, and overall presentation is genuinely decent.

Basically its a notch below FROM's stuff in some respects, on par or better in others. Certainly I wouldn't feel fair saying that the quality gap is too wide to be crossed.

I am peeved it is going to be an Epic Store exclusive and hope they update the recent release to be less cryptic. I should not have to read an FAQ to have the privilege to use a boss weapon special.

1 was hot garbage. Wuchang and lies of p and khazan are the good ones
While the 2014 release is underwhelming, the 2023 release puts to shame even FromSoft titles in many regards. In no world are Wuchang and Khazan on even footing with any worthwhile soulslike.

Total Souls Fatigue. I just can't be bothered with the format any more, I even burned out on From's own games. Elden Ring felt like the end of putting gazillions of hours into these games for me. Even on Gamepass I couldn't find it in myself to get very far through Lords of the Fallen, it was just…why bother? Seen it all before and nothing ever even vaguely compared to the glory of the original Dark Souls.

Come up with something new. Be creative. Stop iterating.

The last game had a strongly implemented mirror world with lamp mechanic as well as the best throwables/bow/crossbow mechanics in any genre ever.

I swear months and months ago when they announced Epic would be partially funding the sequel I was hoping they wouldn't have the cheek to make it exclusive, and here we are. All that support on Steam must've meant nothing to them, apart from helping them make a sequel of course.

This for me is way more gross than being exclusive from the off versus putting a sequel as an exclusive. I know it's not as bad as say Bayonetta for example as it went hardware exclusive, but it is so dumb.

I quite liked the game (even the first one, weirdly) but I don't like it enough to see the Epic launcher or have a transaction on my bank from them.
