Lost Ark is doing crazy numbers.

I played it for three hours. Very slow start, awful cutscenes, incredibly linear like every Korean MMO... idk if I'm gonna keep playing.

AGS fucked it up again at the start they cut a bunch of dungeons which essentially cut down the combat and made for less of it...

I am both happy to see the game succeed and also worried, because I don't think AGS deserves any credit they've handled it horribly.
And I hope Smilegate recognizes it and drops them asap.

I would like a bit more freedom soon. I just finished up killing some demon with a tablet. I would like to explore. Most xp comes from quest and not monsters. But I am enjoying it.

Despite the camera angle it has nothing more in common with PoE (or Diablo). It really is a MORPG (not Massive, just Multiplayer Online RPG) with a ton of content (the game is like 3-4 years old with massive updates), a huge end game grind raids/dungeon and side activities. The main campaign is just an appetizer. So it's good but grindy, you must like this genre to appreciate it, and the art direction is classic korean fantasy which might be a hit or miss.
This is something I don't think a lot of people are understanding. I keep reading people playing this game for an hour and saying it's trash. 95% of the content is well after the campaign ends.

These systems must have been all built in a lab by psychologists. It's the apex of mathematical masturbation. It's going to ruin lives lmao

The combat is spectacular and there's nothing wrong with watching numbers go up... in moderation. Good game for absent-minded weekend nights.

I wish I could end conversations faster (though I understand the devious nature of making you click the fuck out of them) and I can't figure out if a quest arrow exists. I don't want to check the map all the time.

Played a bit. Beautiful art. At 4K, 120 fps, ultra settings, I can't decide which isometric game looks the best - this or Pathfinder: Kingmaker. I think the lighting in this is better, but the level of detail in the world is better in Pathfinder.

I picked gunner, heavy artillery dude. I think it plays much better than Diablo 3. Combat is more sophisticated thanks to the deeper classes, and it is better realized in every way, but still just as simple procedurally (while solo anyway, haven't had a chance to group up yet). I'm looking forward to leveling up and seeing what all it has to offer.

I remember seeing various 'look Feb has a lot of great games' posts and images and all of them contain Horizon, Sifu etc but none has Lost Ark

And then Lost Ark ends up crapping all over these games in terms of concurrent players LMAO

Got to play for a couple of hours before being kicked out. It's a fun game that definitely scratches that Diablo itch. Decided on the Paladin class, seems like it's got a lot of really cool moves.

Not too shabby for a free game!

Is this going to be another "New World" scenario?

I remember so much hype and demand for that game. "Overwhelmingly positive" reviews from early access. Ridiculously huge number of gamers getting in on day 1. Then everybody realized the game wasn't that great and they stopped playing it.
New World scenario was just sad. Such a good game, even now, but buried in an avalanche of game breaking bugs, lack of content, terrible quests, amazing gameplay, graphics and sound design and holy shit bad luck.

Many have done LostArk type games right, I doubt they will mess it up.
Either way not available in my country so f*ck them :(

The grind to get to endgame content is unreal. The story and quest structure is awful, just a million boring fetch quests over and over with a LOT of dialog. The combat is very addictive though, so hopefully the endgame holds up.

For some reason when I played this in beta I bounced off of it pretty hard, but now I'm playing and loving it. Definitely getting that "new MMO feeling" itch where I want to scrap every other thing in my life and just play the shit out of this, which is a great sign.

Any of the packs on steam worth buying?

This is precisely why I refuse to play it funny enough, games like this become an addiction due to the hooks it gets in you.

By that logic, we should be talking about nothing but Candy Crush & PUBG.

I played the game, as someone who barely ever plays these types of games (I did play & enjoy Divinity) the game was super underwhelming. Just filled with boring fetch quests, 2007-esque graphics & animations, and filled with a bunch of p2w mechanics.

My 3070ti eats this game for lunch at 3440 ultrawide. I know game is more like a mobile, but i just love it when it all runs smooth.

still in prologue but it aint bad i suppose, need to find a way to map my elite controller buttons to skills or keyboard keys

The PvP in the game is with normalized gear. How is it pay to win - i.e. what the hell are you winning, bragging rights for being at end game faster than everyone else? It's a free game, of course there's monetization in place to accelerate progress/make things more convenient then just straight grinding. I don't really get the complaints, it's like people desperately want to trash this one and see it fail.

does this game have anything special ? or is it the same mmo formula , kill x amount of mobs , deliver item to npc , do daily quest , grind to get the best gear then wait for better gear to be added to the game and then grind some more ?

basically nothing lol. i dunno why people keep saying it is.

definitely time to win though.
From what I understand there are many grind gates you can pay to avoid or speed up, maybe it's more specific to end game. Time IS the only real currency, so if you're saying it's not P2W but "takes more time" then yes it's P2W in my eyes

Maybe I'm missing something but what in the store is P2W. The ONLY thing I can think of is that you are paying real money to get Royal Coins which gets you gold which you can use to buy the materials for weapon upgrades so that you can skip ALL the content of the game and just jump to the end of the tiered content.

. . .but the question then remains, who are you winning against? It used to be P2W literally meant you could buy items unavailable elsewhere (or prohibitively unattainable) to get a competitive advantage. That doesn't exist in this game (unless you think your own Impatience is a boss).

If we've now diluted this word to just being "anything that lets you level skip", then sure. However I'm not seeing anything directly in the cash shop that does this and it is appears it is heavily reliant on the world economy (i.e., there doesn't seem to be any enhancement gear in the cash shop itself).

He literally say it in the video, mate.

Something very odd I've noticed about the marketing that becomes very apparent once you do.
Almost every female character is black in the marketing lol, they've had six female characters on the cover art in total for example with the old + new one.
All of them black.
What makes it even more bizarre is that none of the male characters have been black from what I've seen lol.
Does someone at Amazon have a fetish for black women?
It's the same in screenshots they're almost all black with like a token white woman VERY rarely.

AGS is the one who made it a deal and mentioned it in their localization description, can't blame me for noticing xD.
It's very bizarre too when you first exit the tutorial area and you walk into a big mob and almost every single person in the mob is a black woman too lel.
What makes it even more bizarre to me is that this is a very specific thing with the female characters, I don't think I've even seen a black guy in the marketing.
Uh, it's very deliberate and odd.

They don't even actually look black either they sorta look like chocolate people they still have Caucasian facial features.
I dunno wtf is going on with this but it's very distracting.
Like someone is actually sitting around and manually changing every woman to have dark skin for the marketing assets, almost every single one.

If you don't live in the clown world west and you want to release their game there, and see how white people want to commit mass suicide in the name of the wokeness and BLM, then you can't blame them for trying to cater to the west by following the suicidal trend.

Dear lord, I've only played for a day or so, but already the gotcha vibes are hitting hard.

Whatever science Blizzard used to manipulate brains in the past, this game has taken it up several notches. This game is manufactured to hit the brain in all the right places for addiction and massive spend, free to play?, not for long. It's the only drug you'll want for a while.

I'm treading lightly, but the game has an underlying magical pull that is very hard to shake. I don't even know if the game is that good!

From what I played for 4 hours it felt like a shit version of Diablo 3. Not been able to play anymore as the AWS servers are doing WindowsShutdownTheme.wav

I very briefly tried it out (about 45 minutes). Honestly nothing about it really grabbed me yet, although I will go back for more at some point.

What is really weird is how you choose your "advanced" class before you even fight a single battle. I assume the "basic" class stuff was the part that was cut because people thought it was too boring?

Also weird how you start with 6 different abilities off the bat. Hasn't been much combat yet, but most of the time I've just been trying to figure out what each of these abilities even does. Would've been better to introduce them one at a time.

I think it's in a honeymoon stage with the PC playerbase, wait until more people start hitting the p2w wall.
What exactly is the P2W wall? Please explain.

Game has a terrible beginning IMO. It gets much better once you get going exploring the different maps and dungeons.

This video is terrible. The guy does not get his point across at all. He actually fully convinced me it's not P2W.
he actually explains it a few times and even has an over simplified presentation of it towards the end. Thing is, it is totally ok for the game to be p2w. Maybe not to you, which would explain your persistence in dismissing the p2w call outs. Game is fun to me and all good. Being p2w doesn't make a game immediately trash... well not to me.

Ooooffff, life energy regen sux. Can't hardly gather anything before running out of energy again. And the aura only improves rate by 10%, lol. This game ain't for crafting types. O well, got a few days out of it.

The positives of this game are:
1. The combat is fantastic. Might depend on what class you play but I'm playing the wizard and it is basically at Diablo 3 levels.
2. There is a TON of shit, this game has been out for years in Korea and we are getting a well developed product, so there is just a fuck ton of shit to do.
3. No bugs or other quirks. Login and play and smooth sailing
4. It is F2P. Yeah you might have to spend money later but it seems largely optional.
5. The dungeons are amazing and you can solo them (at least so far).

The negatives:
1. You start at level 10 so you have a decently full compliment of skills right off the bat so you need to spend time reading your skills instead of learning them over time as they are drip fed to you.
2. I cannot figure out how to use the map because there are just too many fucking zones and I cannot find shit other than memorizing the continents.
3. Very instanced heavy gameplay. You see other people but it doesn't pop like stepping into Ironforge the first time.
4. The majority of the leveling experience is doing pointless quests and skipping all of the quest text. They are quick but mostly you are just going to location and killing things. However they dish these quests out in a manner where you are not backtracking at all.
5. The story is typical MMO dogshit.

Why is it so hard for a multi-million dollar company to write ESP, MX or BR at the end of every South American server, that's why we're going to North America because english is easier to understand than brazilian.
I'm only level 12 and all I see in the chat are Americans fighting with Hispanics because they speak their language in their region.

I had never looked at it, but I just watched Karak Karak 's video and it looks cool. I want to play with some friends.
Thanks. It shows what a game can do with a ton of content that works(well for the most part) but still seriously I am happy people are leaping in

. . .in a 40 minute video. And I watched his MS-Paint demo and I still have to ask: who (or what) are you winning against? If it is your own time, then "P2W" does not accurately describe the situation.
What is the P2W wall? Is it just gaining mats and upgrade stuff that is circumvented by paying for it?

The term P2W has been "pay more money than others to skip things they have to spent time doing" for well over a decade at this point. PW2 is just catchier.

MMOs are designed around time investment. If you can pay more real money than someone else in order to spend less time doing X thing, it's P2W. While other players are mindlessly farming for mats and gold, you already have them an are on to the next thing that will make your character better, or getting practice time in in PVP that the other guy isn't getting. I'm aware it should probably be P4A (pay for advantage) but we've been using the term in that way for many years.

I have played for a couple of hours and I enjoyed most of it. I haven't gotten to a part where it will want my to buy stuff to get ahead, but I assume that is coming with the FTP model.

You're at that part after a couple of hours? What's it asking you to buy?

Yeah usually I think Asmongold is quite reasonable but I dunno why he's in such denial about Lost Ark.
It honestly comes across like he has been paid off, which I don't believe he has anyone who knows anything about him knows that money is such a non-issue for him.
He lives like a borderline homeless person lol he doesn't live a life that requires a lot of money at all.

Yeah that's a fair use of the term then I feel. An advantage is still an advantage regardless of whether it's single player or an MMO.

I just want specifics about what I can pay to win which I haven't been able to find. I assume it's some form of taking currency from the shop and exchanging it for currency that can be used for power related items.

I got my wallet open I just need to be pointed in the right direction.

Royal Coins to get gold so they you can by upgrade material from the AH and zoom your way to iLevel 1000 content just so you can do. . . the max content.

You will have no advantage over other players beyond being able to say you say the top iLevel restricted content before other people you don't know.
