God damn, two kindred spirit S5 dissenters! Its like Christmas!

Well, I actually really like the first few episodes. Those early parts where the island is skipping all over time felt like The Constant writ large and had me thinking 5 was gonna be the great one. Alas...

One thing that confuses me about TTLG is how exactly Charlie saved Desmond. Like I know Charlie knew he had to die and he locked himself in the room to save Desmond, but I don't understand how doing that saved Desmond. They both could have easily swam back up to the surface before the entire station flooded, right?

What I DID enjoy about S5 were single episodes. Bentham, LaFleur, Dead Is Dead, and the best of the season, the frakking KATE episode. The rest I can do without.

But then Charlie would have just died the next day. Or the day after. Sooner or later, course correction would have kicked in.

Heh, my favorite portion of S5 is the '77 stuff.
Same here.

If I had to rank the finales, it would be:

TTLG > TNPLH > Exodus = The Incident > LTDA

I think they are all damn fine finales though.

Yeah I got that, but I thought he also did it to save Desmond. Meh, whatever, still an awesome fucking episode.

Reading the guest list for Ep. 11, I guess you gotta take the bad
the fucking Faradays (worst fucking family ever on this show, terrible actors)
with the good
*bow* Charlie and Penny *bow*
.

you are a strange, easily manipulated man. so sad to see yourself devote yourself to a character that is dead and a puppet in the grand scheme.

I thought the first 6 or 7 episodes of Season 5 were great, until then it just stayed in 1977. I too thought it was boring, it was nice to gain some insight into Dharma but I got bored of it real fast. It's probably my least favourite season. Season 6 feels like a return to form and already better than Season 4 which was great.

Also: LaFleur is EASILY the most overrated Lost episodes ever. I can't understand why it's loved so much... really.

Indeed. My expectations are firmly in check. I tend not to take the 'Lindelcuse' writing credit for granted anymore. There's no guarantees of grandeur.

b-b-but Darlton/Bender/Desmond!!1! CAN'T LOSE

... whatever. Every episode gets a fair shake. If it's good, it's good. Lately, knowing the writers' credits for each episode ahead of time has given me little indication of its overall quality. I've been surprised many times over. The entire writing staff has proven immensely capable, so they're mostly on equal footing in my book. I just let the episode speak for itself.

100% agreed. I mean if someone had told me a year ago that Mario Van Peebles would direct a series classic I would've scoffed it off as a joke. Gregg Nations co wrote maybe the best episode since the season 4 finale. LOST is more of a machine at this point.

It helps that ALL of the writers participate in outlining each episode before the assigned writers pump out a first draft of the script which is then always read & notated by Darlton before going to production.

I feel they should have let LOST-GAF write the finale, though. The final scene would be chaos in it's purest form. :lol

Love Desmond so really can't wait for next weeks episode - but knowing we are so close to the end means I know people we know and love are going to get killed (by soul-less Sayid the way they are setting it up to make it even more painful).

Even though some of the episodes have not been epic, It's nice wrapping things up and moving it forward week by week.

I peeked ahead to see what Noel Murray of the AV Club gave this episode before watching it, so I was really psyched. Actually watching it was a big downer.

He's a great writer but he has some STRANGE opinions on individual episodes. B- to Dr. Linus and The Package, but Recon gets an A? Uh-whaaat?

The finale as written by gaf would be a mixture of tranny surprise.com references, the word 'Believe' quoted in every line and the final shot of the whole series would be a picture of Bishoptl's Samuel L. Jackson avatar.

I can only presume you're a filthy
Faraday
fan. There is no cure for that ailment, Im afraid.

Faraday is beyond your tiny comprehension. I prefer him to even Ben. Right now it's:

(F)locke>Desmond==Faraday>Jack>Sayid>Ben. Desmond's episodes always, and I mean always come through. The Constant is easily the number 1 episode of LOST. And there is no Desmond without Faraday and vice versa.

Again, my problem with Faraday and his mom arent the characters themselves, its the actors. Eloise is fucking wretched, and Jeremy Davies is stoned out of his gourd in every scene. The scene where Faraday is sitting watching TV and crying is a candidate for the worst scene in LOST history, or the most unintentionally hilarious scene in LOST history, take your pick.

You're usually right. But not this time, guy.
heeeeeelll no Solo. That scene was well done, Faraday is a good actor. Both actors were amazing.

I can only agree with you on eloise. Her actress is pretty terrible, and i've never being a big fan of her character. (at least she barely appears in the show).
Daniel and his actor is awesome though!

I like great actors - the main reason Im such a Locke fanatic is that Terry O'Quinn is so incredible and has brought such depth and color to the character all these years. Same goes for why I love Ben - Michael Emerson has immense talent and succeeds completely whether hes playing pathetic or malicious. This show really has 4 tiers of actors. Great ones like the ones Ive mentioned, ones who have gotten a lot better as the seasons have passed (Holloway), serviceable ones (Fox), and bad ones, like Eloise Hawking.

I wonder what Eloise Hawking was really doing in Desmond's flashes. She said the greatest thing he'd ever do was push that button (granted she would only know up to 2007), but I get the feeling with next weeks episode there is something even greater set up for him.

Also that interview between him and Widmore is great. I love how he says Desmond will never be a great man, and yet now he has to kidnap Desmond, something is great about him.

Thinking Jeremy Davies does a bad job at playing Faraday is just ... I want to cry. I'm happy that's a giant minority opinion though. :P

I did not read this whole thread because I'm trying to stay spoiler free, other than episode titles, but I just had a thought that I don't think I can post in the weekly thread yet.

Forgive me if you've already discussed this, but the finale's title must be a reference to Jacob and MIB's game, right? You know, the whole speech Jacob gave MIB about the nature of man, about how everything (destruction, corruption, etc) up until that point is just progress, as it only ends once?

What do you guys think about that theory?

Most likely that, yeah.

and, y'know, the end of the show :P

The actual uploader of the video did it what a arse.:lol
Thankfully, i already read the spoilers at darkufo. No harm done here, although i'd advise anyone who isn't like me to NOT watch those videos.:lol

And then there's S4/S5 Malcolm David Kelley.

This thread has totally gotten shitty. I pretty much know a character in this episode now seeing as people first spoiler tagged it than stopped bothering.

/bailsout

C'mon - you can assume that every character that was on the show (except for maybe eko) will come back in the LA X timeline by now no? Knowing that a character will appear means nothing when you have 5 cameo's per episode.

In this instance, I hadn't really considered the fact
Danny Fanny would be on the ep, which I understand in retrospect makes me slow.
But I still consider the chosen etiquette here to be open discussion with reasonable consideration and use of spoiler tags for anything not officially announced (and guest lists don't really count, they're a requirement for the network.) But at this point in time it's probably safer to just not check the thread anyway.

Can't leave the thread :(

I would like to express disappointment over something openly discussed on Hurley's podcast, even though they've now read all the scripts. The fact they'll talk about it implies a lack of referrence to it in the show.
The fuckin' purge, man! They're just going back and forth acting just as ignorant as we all were in S3 about who ordered it. I'm not an ANNNSSSWWWEEERRRSSS guy, but we need to know if it was Richard's decision, Ben's, Jacob's? MIB? ugh.

Had to skip the package, I'll be watching the package monday and happily ever after wednesday (after it downloads), haven't read too much about what happened but I can't wait for next week's episode after seeing those promo pics.
