He's nowhere near as fun as he used to be, but I could say that about all the characters in REmake. Chris' scenario is still the most tense and enjoyable of the two imo.
Hard mode with Chris and no saves is the way. I literally never get bored of it. Something cool happens every time I play.

I just in Normal with Chris and it's already a challenge. I see if I can adapt to the change of playstyle. Anyway Zero didn't arrive yet so I'll see tonight. I'll do a session
But not sure I'll go till the end. Let's see my progress.
And yes there is that. I don't want to make an overdose of RE by doing several playthrough in a raw of each (except if they bring something to the story like 2 seems to do)

Yeah doing a full A/B run is a must. Just matter of whether or not you want to do both combinations. Claire A/ Leon B is definitely the better of the two but you miss out on one of Leon's best moments from his A game.
I'd probably suggest a second playthrough of RE3 since a lot of what makes that game special is all the variations. My friend and I got into a real heated argument when we showed up to school after the weekend and our playthroughs had been so different we thought the other guy was lying, lol.

So did quite some progress with Chris. Got the 4 masks and killed the Crimson head. I can now access the courtyard.
I like it a lot. It's much more tense and I plan much more my moves in the mansion to avoid confrontations.
I got the shotgun and hope soon the magnum (hope it's still at the same place than with Jill). The small changes from Jill/Chris run makes the second run still enjoyable.
Just a bit disappointed with Rebecca. I met her but she barely talk sand disappears immediately (already with Barry this was weird but at least he was more talkative). I was hoping for more insight on the story.
lol. seeing this thread reminds me of buying a game.com for my cousin. I'd own it and RE2 if the revision of the hardware with the light wasn't so expensive.
I've only played (most?) of Code Veronica. I got stuck in the back of a plane with a baddie I couldn't take out. Saved right before the fight with no heal items. oops.

Haha. This is something I am always careful in old games like RE. Rotate between 4 save slots and always overwrite the oldest one. Like that I have 2 back up save.
If I feel I reach an important, I use an extra slot that I keep in case.
I just started REVII having never played the series. I usually don’t like horror games but it’s alright. So far, I’m playing during the day. I don’t handle horror games well, lol. At this point I’ve lost a hand and have just found a crappy pistol.

I was so stress during the demo. I was expecting something jumping at me at every corner. I stopped before I could see any monster or whatever there is in it xD

I've still got all of the games from the past 20 or so years, all in amazing condition. The only one I don't own is Deadly Silence, really only because I was never into the DS or handheld computers. But I did hear that's the best version of RE1, because you can play as the Bravo Team members in the mansion. Why, I don't know.
None of my inlays are damaged. I remember a shop near where my family lives, and they had many damaged cases. I think it was easier to damage PS1 cases. Being that they were just flimsy plastic.
Yes. Outbreak is rather good, but I feel the controls are not that great in the game, and it looked horrible in terms of the graphics by today's HD standards. Otherwise, it has all the bells and whistles of old RE games. You explore, collect things, and have to heavily rely on managing your inventory. A lot more than usual, in my opinion.
I'd suggest not playing the RE3 remake. Unlike the remakes of 1 and 2 it completely misses the point of the original and omits almost everything that made it interesting.
I can’t disagree with this post more. Remake 3 has far more replay value than any of the recent RE games. Don’t worry about the RE3 purists who sit atop their high horse. It’s a really fun game for what it is, and you definitely should not pass it up.
And I call it a masterpiece ! Love it ! Just a small complaint toward the end in Lisa's underground and the laboratory. A lot of back and forth between very close doors.
Aside from that, it's perfect for me. I really like reading the notes. They can be quite horrifying.
It took me 11h49 and looks like I was in easy xD. At the beginning I didn't had a clear choice of difficulty. Just 3 options that describes how I think games should be. I took the middle one because I was scare to be too limited with Ink Ribbon.
I started a second run with Chris in normal. It's something else ! I have almost no ammo and barely any healing items. I tried to kill zombie with knife but it's a pain. Before I stopped my last session, I tried to run past zombie in small corridor and it looks like the way to go.
I try a bit like that and see how fast I am going. Don't know if I will complete it. Anyway now I am waiting my copy of Zero so I'll see how fast I progress till it arrives and I'll decide then.
Also ordered Resident Evil 2 and Nemesis on PS1
Normal on REmake is quite brutal compared to Easy mode. I find Chris to be easier than Jill because he can take more damage, Jill goes down quite fast.
Recommendation for Zero, stick with EASY mode since that what you played on REmake. Zero is scarce as can be with healing items and it's one of the more trickier classic RE games in terms of difficulty and puzzles.
Stoked for you to experience RE2 and Nemesis on PSX, they are incredibly good.

Good man. A first run should be slow, that's how I know you appreciated the journey. No need to impress anyone with a speed run. If you're interested, as with a couple of the RE games REmake has a method of getting past zombies unscathed (but it isn't risk-free). As you're done with Jill, it might be fun to throw that into your Chris playthrough before you move on. Also, a minor trick to go fast: tap run when you're moving on stairs.
If you walk/run towards a zombie, it will usually lunge to grab you. If you time it right, you can use the downtime of the lunge animation to run past. There's risk of being grabbed when trying to bait the lunge, though.
I hope you enjoy 2/3 on PS1, they're among my all time favourites. I can listen to the 2 soundtrack for fun, it's so atmospheric and fills me with nostalgia.
Please play 2 before 0! Other fans will back me up here, I'm sure, but without spoiling anything it's a prequel that relies on existing knowledge you don't yet have.
As for 0 itself, it's definitely one of the more difficult games so I recommend Easy for a first run. You can always come back in future and have some fun with it if you feel like it, but you're better off minimising the risk of burning out by reducing frustration.
Wtf 7 was the best RE since code Veronica. It was great had the old school horror feel. I hope we get more of that formula. Kinda pissed at 8 going back to non horror formula because a few people got scared lol.
The thing about Zero is most of its difficulty is front loaded. Once you get past the first area it's not that far off the other games. Still on the harder end for sure but not impossible or anything.
I like the train section of 0. It has a great claustrophobic feel. But once you get to the training facility, it's the same old boring shit for at least 2 long hours.
I prefer the remake. But Rebecca feels like a different character in both games. People say the events of 0 had left her traumatised, since it was her first big mission.

It what I was thinking for avoiding zombie. Bait them into grab and then run past. But not so easy to do. For the moment, I manage by running past and shooting some.
That's a good remark about the spoiler in Zero. I didn't think about that. I might play 2 before 0 then. Thanks !
Yes that's a good point not to frustrate myself with too high difficulty. I'll see what I choose when the time c0me

I haven't play Zero yet but Rebecca is so weird in REmake. She's just there (in coyote girl clothes... because why not) saying almost nothing. Popping in and out like that. Really weird and so out of place.
Barry was much much better with Jill.

Rebecca is really just there to the things Chris is too dumb to do.
Waiting to do 0 after at least the first 3 games is a good idea. Its story is worthless in terms of fitting in with anything else anyway and the impact of how it shakes up the gameplay is far more impactful playing it after the rest of the classic entries.

I’d say less traumatized, more like she hasn’t had any chance to sleep since the events of 0 began. Understandable she’d be running on fumes by the time of REmake.
Going forward, what are you hoping happens next for the series?
Did anyone find it nippy how Chris was supposed to confront the BSAA with his squad, then RE8 basically skipped 15 or so years with Rosemary being a teenage girl?
At least we know Chris is safe until 2035, or whatever year Rosemary defeated Miranda in.

I imagine 9 and Revelations 3 will be the next two entries (aside from remakes): the former continuing Rose’s story, while the latter will follow Chris’ investigation. Hell, since Rebecca was originally going to be with Chris and Ethan in 8 back when it was originally planned to be Revelations 3, they could have her join Chris.
But who knows, maybe 9 will still be set in modern day, and they’ll make a new side series to focus on Rose.
And REmake completed in Normal with Chris. 6h25. Almost half my first run.
Really a great game. I liked the difference between characters (resistance, inventory size, weapons available, companions interactions...).
But I prefer Jill overall since Barry's involvement in the story is so much superior to Rebecca. And it flows much better with the story.
Rebecca is just so out of place.
I find interesting the part where Chris couldn't do the mixing of chemical to kill the plants so you have to fight it but Rebecca show up and you have to do the same stuff than Jill AND still fight the boss. It's a miss opportunity to make they run more different in my opinion.
Anyway ! I have received Zero but as mentioned before I'll wait for my copy of 2 and 3 on PS1 first.
Has anybody played the mode where you have to put items in the same storage chest? You can also get invisible enemies, and Forest from the Bravo Team wired to blow up.
The last two games chronologically speaking have had remote settings so I'd like 9 to go for a populated setting. We've had homages to RE1 and RE4 in first person with VII and Village, so a spiritual successor to RE2 in first person would be nice.

It is quite the experience in VR. I really hope we get a PSVR2 version, it needs one as it's pretty blurry on the PSVR1. I'm playing RE4 VR right now on Quest 2 and it's really good. I'm super excited for RE8 VR as well.

Wow. You are definitely missing out. RE4 is one of the most critically acclaimed games ever released.
Now in all fairness, RE4 isn't anything like the previous games. That's something you'll grow to either appreciate deeply, or loathe.
I do think 4 is a solid game. But it lacks the RE magic that the previous games had. It's really mostly a shooter with horror stuff in it. But it's a hell of a game just the same, and not worth missing out on.
If they had ended the arc about Umbrella decisively, I may have gave it more lenient opinions had that been resolved more faithfully, or whatever you say it as. But as it is, they discarded that concept right at the beginning of the game, and then the series got into quite a mess with the plot thereafter. But if the plot isn't anything that's important to you, it probably won't affect your overall enjoyment.

It's been too long for me to give too much in the way of detail, but your post reminded me of just how many things can change in a run depending on what order you do things. As Jill, Barry can show up and kill Plant 42 for you - flat out skipping that fight. There's also the classic "Jill sandwich" moment that can skip you having to get the fake shotgun, and various smaller scenes where you're given grenade launcher ammo.
I don't remember what can and can't happen for Chris, but he's definitely more alone. Higher health and faster, but Jill's definitely easier to play as. The lockpick alone makes a big enough difference.
While you're waiting for 2/3, you could always go into the second playthrough and find the One Dangerous Zombie.

THANKS FOR RUINING THE SURPRISE, DICKHEAD. Want to ruin the rest of the fun of the series while you're at it? Why let him experience anything for the first time in a thread dedicated to that when you can piss all over it?
It's a mode activated on even numbered playthroughs (2,4, etc). You don't have to go through the whole game either, I wouldn't send you on a hunt for something that only appears at the end. The surprise has been ruined, but you haven't experienced it. If you want to try a costume you've unlocked while you're at it, I don't think the game tells you but in the dead end corridor in the first room on the ground floor east from the main hall there is a door the Special Key works on

No problem for me. It's an interesting surprise but not necessarily the kind of stuff I like. Don't think I'll play another run soon and I don't want to go look for it. I'll see if there is such stuff in other games.
The game basically tells you for the secret closet once you finish the game

That's fair enough. There's nothing like that in any of the other games, for some reason they came up with unique things for REmake then left everything in one game. Invisible zombies and the mode where item boxes aren't magically linked also stayed in REmake.

The standard difficulty in REmake is much higher than in the original. I never liked how the game forces you to leave a lot of zombies alive, making the whole thing a game of dodging in cramped spaces between fixed camera angles. I mean sure, from RE2 on it actually makes sense as the games are more action oriented. But in the original RE1 it was nice to be able to clear the mansion of most, if not all, of the zombies. It gave you a sense of power and much-earned relief, before replacing them all with hunters anyway.
The lab, yeah, that’s a lot of back and forth in a pretty small area, but you can see that in the original game they were running out of time and resources and couldn’t/ didn’t want to make another sprawling area. After all you’ve been through so far, I think it was a nice change of pace to wrap everything up. I’m a bit surprised they didn’t expand much on it in the remake, though. After all, they did turn the redundancy of the mansion up to 11 and they did add the Aqua Ring.
