Lucasfilm finally announces Star Wars for Blu-ray

Honestly, there is not much there that would warrant spending the money to upgrade. Each disc has only a movie and 2 commentary tracks? I'll wait for the inevitable price drop.

Have they said whether it'll have the Ken Burns documentary?

Kevin Burns :)

Not yet. I would hope that would carry over, as it was a fantastic documentary. I also hope they carry over the documentary from the Episode I DVD.

I was the typical outraged Star Wars fanboy moaning about changes to the originals and how the prequels sucked until I had children.

Seeing it through their eyes changed all that. They don't give a shit that Han shot first, they think all six flicks are the bees knees. To them Star Wars has always been six movies, and all of them kick ass. Shit's got lightsabers, and big fucking monsters, and space blasters, and it's all pew pew pew and raaargh and slicing limbs off and oh shit it's a bigger fish!

They love it, so I do too now. :).

How is it possible that children enjoy trade federation bullshit? I won't believe it until you video you children stating the prequel movies are their favorites and put it on YouTube.

6.1 soundtrack? Seems kinda odd. How does a 7.1 system display the sound with that? Both back speakers playing the one channel? Wish this was 7.1.

Easter Egg probably.
Kidding. Lucas wants that dead and buried

He ignores it. That's the popular opinion as to why it's been allowed to stay up on youtube and google video for years, is because they'd have to acknowledge it's existence to ask for it to be removed.

7.1 is the anomaly really. There are fewer 7.1 tracks out there than anything. The last time the movies got a major sound upgrade it was to Dolby EX. At least now we will have a discrete 6.1 mix.

Really, the jump from Dolby to DTS is shocking to me. Lucas has always been a Dolby fan boy. Hell, the first movie to feature Dolby EX in theaters was Episode I. Lucas was the reason that the Indiana Jones DVDs were in Dolby and not the DTS that Spielberg preferred.

Mine have no idea what is going on with the Trade Federation crap, but they just love the goofy aliens (the Asian stereotype guys) mixed up in it. Episode 1 is my kids' favorite Star Wars movie. Yep. They also think Jar Jar is HILARIOUS.

I do not think Lucas made those movies for the original SW generation. Not at all. He made them for his kids, and as an extension, our kids. From a business standpoint it makes sense as well; who buys the most toys?

I'll get right on that for you.

I know its an anomaly but I would have loved to see these in 7.1. DTS is also weird.

Printscreened the crappy flash video on the website. Hopefully they release the art in hi-res, the original trilogy art is nice =)

I was so happy when some little kid came in with his mom and rented The Empire Strikes Back, instead of one of those cursed prequel movies.

I've preordered the original trilogy (had it preordered for ages now).

£30 for it isn't bad at all, really.

I'm pretty sure the original versions will be available in BRD sooner or later, just like they were in DVD years later after the remastered ones.
I hope so. I'm not touching any of the redone ones.

Yup. The nerdrage is purely adults who have lost the ability to watch the Star Wars films with the eyes of a child. Modern kids love them all, and they are correct. Nine-disc set already preordered.

They've always been bad movies, you were just too young to know it the first time around.

If kids like them, they must be good! It's why there is no difference between Pixar films and Shrek 3: Eddie Murphy Needed a Yacht.

Was on the fence, but definitely getting the Complete Saga for sure now. That artwork is gorgeous...

I don't know. I'm not a fan of the Complete Saga and Prequel Trilogy boxart. The Original Trilogy boxart is great though.

I think that highlights the principle problem. the OT didn't have to be silly and stupid in order to capture imaginations or be enjoyable to children. In fact, their serious tone and tension is what MADE them enjoyable for both children AND adults. I-III seem to lose that understanding and panders instead exclusively to the child demographic at the expense of adults. If it wasn't necessary for the first 3 to be enjoyable to people of all ages, it shouldn't have been necessary now.

It was really disappointing in that way.

And assuming the OT BD release will only feature the movie versions with the extra CG added, I'll probably skip these as well. The added footage adds nothing to the plot, while providing maximum distractions (save the enhanced planetary explosions).

Not really sure if I understand the saga cover. Anakin is walking towards us and Luke the opposite direction? I have always been fond of the picture of young Anakin with Vader shadow on the wall. I have always thought the entire saga was more about Anakin than Luke.

Will be getting the complete saga for sure. This collection needs to be complete for my collection of blu rays.

I think it's that both Luke and Anakin shared a desert world upbringing in common...and from those places their journeys would begin.

I also really like the OT artwork.

Prequel Box is disappointing and doesnt even live upto the BS Lucas has spewed over the years on how the whole thing is Anakins story.

Yoda being the central character in the art makes no sense. The Prequels are as big a Palpatines story as it is Anakins. Yoda is nothing more than a side character along for the ride.

Just want to say it again, for emphasis:

IF YOU'RE A STAR WARS FAN AND HAVEN'T WATCHED EPISODE IV: REVISITED (the amazing fan-edited version) you're missing out on the proper experience.

LOL can't believe people complain about Lucas messing with the film and then cheer a bunch of fans messing with it in their own way.

Well, originally I was just getting the OT on BD, but price-wise Complete Saga makes more sense and I actually like the artwork because of Anakin going 'backwards' (Prequels) while Luke is moving 'forward' (Originals).

People wouldn't mind if Lucas did a good job.

TOYS!

Yeah, I'm not quite understanding why Yoda is so prominent on the prequel trilogy box. Anakin or Palpy would be more appropriate.

Not that I'm getting it regardless. Hell, I don't think I'm even going to pick up the complete box set anymore. Those special features are pretty atrocious. I mean, I've already seen the classic ones more times than I can count. I'm 99% sure we'll be getting Laserdisc transfers.

And seriously, 84 minutes on cosplayers and 91 minutes on spoofs? What the fucking fuck? Where's the documentary covering the entire saga of films? This is horse shit.

The 9th disc looks like a total disappointment-ton

Looks like Alien Anthology will retain its status as supreme blu-ray boxset

I like reeally the complete Saga cover, nice homage to the TPM teaser poster.

That Blu-ray set will be mine.

You missed the point. It's not about the umbrella concept of "messing with the film" that spawns the complaints: it's about fucking up the films, which are what Lucas' special additions tend to do. Meanwhile, fan edits like the one I listed are basically huge tidying & polishing projects. they're not about adding homegrown footage, or stupid CGI dinosaurs that distract and detract from the original releases. They fix inconsistencies, colors, remove stupid shit (like the Jabba scene in A New Hope), etc. while retaining the good changes (like the updated explosions for Alderan and the Death Star.

Watch it for yourself. You'll go, "oh".

Really like that complete saga box art.

Prequel one is stupid, Yoda? really? All the prequels shows is that he was a dumbass.

Never really had a big push to watch them, seen the prequels in the cinema because friends were going. Wierd I know.

Not sure why I never tried to see them.

Watched every single episode when they were new in theaters and will greatly enjoy watching every episode at home, with the exceptions of episodes I and II.

I somewhat enjoyed episode III, but only somewhat. At least in episode III, all the action we wanted to see happened. Everything else in Episodes I and II was nothing but fluff and not important to the fall of Anakin Skywalker.
