Luis Suarez the football vampire has bitten another player [Update: BANNED]

Diving, in America at least, is the biggest barrier keeping casual fans from getting into the sport. It's why it has the reputation as being for faggots here. It's not just FIFA, though. All domestic leagues tolerate it as well.

Watching this World Cup with family members has been embarrassing at times. The NBA had problems with flopping and swiftly took measures to end it. The fact this hasn't happened in soccer makes it an inherent part of the sport now, and it's ridiculous. Institute retroactive punishment for diving ASAP. And force refs to take a no tolerance approach to it.

This. I understand (and agree) with the people that don't want instant replay in games because it'll slow down the play, but retroactive punishment after the game should be applied to blatant dives. Also would like a system like MLB, where an off-site official is always watching a game on monitors, so that the ref could consult with them over the headset for a second opinion on certain actions.

What a fucking strange thing to do, and to do it yet AGAIN? He must have some serious temper issues, and for some reason he bites when he's pissed. Who knows why.

The ref clearly didn't see the bite or else he'd given it a red, so I'm guessing he'll get a suspension for the rest of the World Cup regardless of how far Uruguay goes. If I supported that country I'd be fucking pissed at him right now, even if he's the sole reason they're through the group stages.

If I was Uruguay I wouldn't even want this guy on the team anymore. He's a great player, but he's such a fucking cunt that it taints any of their victories with controversy like this. Just like last WC with his handball to knock out Ghana.

Nothing wrong with that action. He took the red card for the team. I bet whole every football fan in Uruguay applauded his handball that ultimately saved the team. I would have felt different if he had gotten away with it, but since he was sent off, that foul is incomparable to his habit of chewing up his opponents.

Comparing to other violations of conduct doesn't really make sense. There's no precedent here. It's too fucking bizarre for that. FIFA, and I imagine most association bodies outside of childcare sectors, have surprisingly never had to deal with somebody who keeps fucking biting people.

In the World Cup final what does a retroactive red card do if a striker dives in the box and gets a PK out of it? Ban the guy from the next game? Lolz he won the World Cup...

All PKs should require instant replay after the ref calls the foul.

the problem is dives outside of the box, if a goal is scored or assisted because of a flop... and it wins a championship game retroactive cards are meaningless.

The best part besides Saurez flopping to the ground pathetically when he realized he'd be in trouble, was the guy trying to pull up the Italian bite victim's shirt so the ref wouldn't see the bite marks.

Yea, that's why I also said I want an MLB-like system. I probably said it in a confusing way, but what I don't want with instant replays is the ref actually going to the sideline and sticking his head in a camera like in the NFL (though if it's only for plays where time is already stopped, like a penalty, I would be fine with it.)

An MLB-stlye system, where off-site refs monitor the game and can contact the ref in case they noticed something he didn't, seems the best of both worlds to me. Of course, that leaves the chance for further corruption in the game...

EDIT: Also, retroactive fines aren't meaningless because if a player knows he will be fined/suspended for it he won't do it. It'll slowly root out dives from the game if players know that a dive in one game means a (for example) 5 match ban regardless of whether you tricked the ref or not. Things like Cup Finals are of course a different case, but ask Suarez himself if he wouldn't play as a goalie vs. Ghana again... (i.e., in certain circumstances players would even risk a straight red card regardless of instant replay.)

Was this posted?

Fifa vice-president Jim Boyce says football's world governing body 'must investigate' Luis Suarez.
Boyce adds: "I have watched the incident several times on television.
"There is no doubt Luis Suarez is a fantastic footballer but once again his actions have left him open to severe criticism.
"There is no doubt that Fifa must investigate this incident very seriously and take whatever action is deemed necessary."

he was banned for seven games in the netherlands, and ten in the premier league after similar incidents.

give him a two-year ban. it's the only way he'll learn.

maybe.

probably not.

I guess I don't understand why someone doesn't just beat him.

The bite is not the reason Italy lost, but he should be banned because that biting bs shouldn't be tolerated anymore. Or at least suspended for some games.

Uruguay captain Diego Lugano: "You saw this, really? You need to show me because I didn't see anything. Did you see it today or did you see what happened in other years. You couldn't have seen it today because nothing happened.

"The worst of everything is the attitude of Chiellini. He's a great player, with an enormous status. It doesn't correspond with Italian football. As sportsmen leaving the field, crying and appealing against a rival. As a man he disappointed me totally."

lol

I demand he be banned for life and all his goals from the WC nullified.

Seriously though, I'm trying to think of any other job where you can bite someone on the job three times and not get fired.

Its difficult for the ref to tell whether its a dive or not. No foul != dive.

Reading some of the responses from the Uruguayan staff and players is kinda funny. Are they really trying to act like Suarez is being unfairly persecuted? . It's like he doesn't think before he does this things, he just goes in for the bite.

Biting someone once during a match is already peculiar but doing it two more times on different occasions; you can't just brush that under the rug as someone being unfairly targeted. This i probably gonna ruin his move to Spain this summer. What a dumbass.

It's not just as an isolated incident why this grates.

All the crying about victimisation by the English media. All these tales about how hard it's been for him in England (I mean how dare we tolerate racism and cannibalism). The attempts to feign injury after biting.

He is utterly loathesome. With the exception only of those convicted of crimes outside football, Suarez is thee biggest tosser to disgrace the game.

Fifa should add a game to his ban every time someone from his club defends him.
