Do they still make the top-right key on wireless keyboards an eject button? They should totally just make that the new Notifications key with an icon and all since disc drives are growing extinct...

And I'm like Gary, F19in' it.
It's a Power button now for newer machines without disc drives.

How is this running for those of you with a late 2011 MBA? Smoothly, let's hope, because I didn't wait buy it before asking this question.

I wish they would just do a refund setup as $20 isn't really that much, but I'm waiting now as it would be a waste since I already requested a code.

Any way to get my Macbook Pro to start-up faster? Takes 20-30 seconds for it to get to the login screen, and I did a clean install.

Seems to be the straight-up answer. I don't know if it's worth upgrading my HDD considering it's a mid-2009 model, which I could replace soon. In any case, it's not too big a deal right now, but I miss the Leopard days where it took a couple of seconds, then BAM! login.

First boots are always slow. However, I am now kind of curious - Do many people turn off/reboot their machines at times other than an OS install? Why?

Another good Notification Center tip that I just got from Twitter is that you can assign a Hot Corner (prefs > screen saver) to activate it by mousing into any corner of the screen. I just set mine up for the top right corner and it works great!

Macbook Pro. I turn it off whenever I'm not using it or if I bring it out with me.

PC stays off, too, since I like complete silence when I sleep. I can hear the quiet humming, still.

EDIT: And, yes, like PhoncipleBone said, power conservation.

Required for updates.

Sorry, I meant to imply that one as a given as an OS install.

To conserve electricity. I turn my computer off every day or so when I go to bed. No use leaving it on all night.

I've never had an iMac, can it not sleep? My MacBook can write its memory state to the HD and then resume within seconds when I wake it up.

Quick: Hmm, my MacBook is cold and doesn't make a sound when in sleep, I assume that the fans and what not are off.

sweet thanks for that tip, didnt think to check before.

On another note, what types of notifcations does Google send towards the notification centre?

Good. Lord. This shit is zippy. My god. Word opens in less than a second, instead of the 4-15 second slog I had to go through on Lion. Everything is faster. Startup, wake-up, app launches, folders being opened (yeah, they had a full second open-time on Lion sometimes)...love it.

Hate that they've made it so you have to hold Opt. with a three finger swipe to have it function like it used to in SL. Is there any way to change that? I don't use fullscreen apps and to have that functionality removed solely for dashboard access is dumb and a waste.
Also, is there a way to remove the Login and Notification icons from the OS Menu? It's too cluttered for me now.
Apart from removing some of the basic functionality that I made regular use of with gestures, the speed increase on this OS is pretty amazing. Safari is no longer a laggy pos anymore.

Three finger swipe now functions to scroll between fullscreen apps, this is useless for me, is there any way to change it back to how it functioned in SL? (Holding the option key does this but I don't want to have to do that).
Is modding gestures at all possible even?

Google BetterTouchTool

other than that, I don't remember what 3 finger swipe did in SL :x

If it's just to go back and forth in Safari, simply use 2 fingers.

When checking out the new screensavers I see a few picture collections that I haven't seen before, i'd like to use them as my wallpapers. Collections like Aerial, National Geographic, Cosmos and Nature Patterns.

Any idea where those are located on the harddrive?

Yeah! Two finger swipe does it now, I missed that, thanks man.

The 2 finger swipe sucks since it wont work in Finder. It's best to go into the Trackpad Settings and to change the backwards and fowards behaviour to 2 or 3 finger swipe. Best of both worlds really and you can still switch between apps with the 4 finger swipe.

I'm using Better Touch Tool, and it's rather buggy. I've reassigned three finger swipes to 'back' and 'forward' in web browsers/finder, etc., but it just randomly stops working every few minutes. I have no idea what's causing this. This would happen very, very rarely in Lion, but it's happening with alarming frequency in ML.

Haven't begun to troubleshoot yet. Just thought I'd whine though in case someone here has an immediate answer.

The various swipes are so ingrained into my brain now that there's just no way I'm relearning them for the sake of the OS. Fuck that. It can learn what I like!

One-finger swipe: Cursor movement.

Two-finger swipe: Scroll

Three-finger swipe: Back/forward, Page Top/Page Bottom

Four-finger swipe: Dashboard/Desktop/Exposé/Multi-window view within an app

Five-finger (close-open) swipe: Mission Control/Desktop

THERE IS NO OTHER WAY. DON'T MAKE ME LEARN IT ALL OVER AGAIN

Anyone who uses iLOL to play League of Legends on their Mac the advice from the dev's is do not upgrade yet as the client has issues with LoL in regards to Adobe Air which iLOL uses does not play nice with 10.8 yet.

So I won't be upgrading just yet. Lion does everything I need it to, but the moment the client is patched, I'll be there.

I wonder if anyone else uses USB Overdrive and has tried it out. I really don't like the default mouse acceleration curve, and USB Overdrive is my current means of fixing it as well as allowing the extra button to be used for stuff like expose.

I have a weird issue with Safari on GAF.

Whenever I click on the orb in front of a thread to jump to the first unread post, it always jumps up a few pages leaving me to scroll down to get to the first unread post. In chrome it used to jump exactly to the first unread post, down to the millimeter. I loved that.

I really love Safari otherwise, did I miss a setting somewhere or is it straight up bugged? Anyone else experiencing this?

I have now got mountain lion installed, but I have now got an icon for hotspot shield next to the wifi and airplay icons which I cant get rid of, I have tried deleting manually from the applications folder, I have tried right clicking on the icon to close, but it doesn't work. Does anybody know of anyway to close applications that are running on the toolbar thing at the top of the screen.

I think you'll be happy. It's running really well for me on my 11". Safari is really fast and on Lion I had two issues I really never got rid off:
1. When I opened the lid it always took a few seconds before I could move the pointer.
2. When opening the lid I would have sometimes lost my WiFi connection and it would take a while before it connected again.

Both of these issues are gone in ML.

I requested one yesterday as soon as the page allowed and still haven't received one. I'm in the UK if that matters.

Also, I'm posting this from Windows 7 in protest.

This is the first time I update the OS. I want to know what happens to all the archives that I have in the computer? I hope that the updating doesn't delete all that i have...

Is there anyway to change the Safari default search engine? For Germany it's google.de (with tons of local results), i need my google.com fix. It's unbelievable how incompetent Apple and Google are at browser development. Safari and Chrome are great but they almost always screw up one basic feature :(

So I take it nobody else has the Game Center problem?
Whenever I open it I get this:

bydefault2012-07-26at025435.jpg

Cancelling the empty pane freezes the application at the log-in screen.
Ignoring it (and clicking the surrounding area) means I am able to input my login details, but when hitting enter the pane brings itself to the front and I don't log-in. The app just sits there.
Any ideas guys?

Yep I'm getting this too, making visiting large threads a chore :(

Thanks.

This is ridiculous isn't it?

For those that have recently bought their computer - wouldn't it be easier if it worked just like an update without having to apply for it?

I can't even log in on Gamecenter on Mac, "Could not connect to Gamecenter servers".
