Yea
Do you have a backup of your data? As long as you have a backup of your stuff, you will never be "screwed". Computers can be fixed. But data can't be recreated. Also Mountain Lion will be waiting for you again once you get a new HDD.iMac HDD just died. Shit. Just got Mountain Lion too a few days ago.![]()
Are you using the newest version?Has this update screwed up anybody else's Dropbox configurations? I can no longer right click on a file to copy the public link. I have to manually find and enter in the URL if I want to post the specific image now.![]()

Did it fix it? Because I read that DropBox's new update was released to fix the problems ML caused. Just like when Lion came out. DB integrates itself into the Finder like a tick burying its head. It's understandable there'd be problems at first.I figured an option would pop up asking me to update by now or at least an option in preferences to update. Couldn't find a damn thing and decided to just download it off Dropbox's website. Thanks.
Been using ML for a few days now. It's definitely nice, though I haven't noticed that it's faster than Lion yet.
I have one minor complaint. Maybe I'm in the minority but I heavily use the app folder in my Dock to start my apps and since Mountain Lion the scrolling speed when using a mouse wheel (don't have a trackpad: Mac Mini) is painfully slow. On Lion it would almost go down the whole list when I scrolled once but on Mountain Lion it only goes down two rows of icons. So to get to the bottom of the list I have to scroll continuously and that is kind of annoying. I haven't noticed a scrolling difference with other apps yet so it's a little weird.
I used to do this too but I switched to Spotlight and never looked back.
So guys, I got an issue. My Lion Macbook harddrive got corrupted or something a few days ago and I have been working to fix it ever since. Long story short, I got Mountain Lion installed on it fresh. I then used Migration Assistant to restore my user and apps (same user name so it overwrote the admin one that I just made), basically everything.
After that, it all seemed fine, except I can't open a few apps. Reminder and Notes on the dock are what I tried, didn't go through every app. It just never opens and has an error. I thought maybe it was because I migrated my apps or something.
Reopened the Mountain Lion install, and it still showed me the choice to install 10.8 so I just went ahead with it, hoping it basically reinstalls/repairs it without losing my data. Was that ok to do? It's currently installing, just wanted an idea if I am doing it wrong.
edit: ok it finished, and I can now open those apps. But did I make a big mess out of my OS?
One code is good for all computers using the same Apple ID/App store account. So, apple sent me another mountain lion code. Does it matter what computer it's installed on? If not, i'm just going to give it to one of my friends.

It should be fine to give away then.Yea, he has a different apple id. But this is the second code they've sent me. I just got it this morning.
Odd. If everything is working now, I would assume everything is okay...
Tried 'sudo rm -f' but it just tells me the file is a directory (it isn't). Can't chmod my permissions on. What the fuck?
.plugin files are actually bundles and therefore folders, so 'sudo rm -rf foo.plugin' should take care of it.
Quick question that might have been answered. On the specs needed for ML it says that you need 8GB free. My wife only has 4GB free. If I used the USB install method, can I get away with only having 4GB free? My wife is having a hard time freeing up the space on her laptop.
I'm assuming you have an 8GB usb stick? Why not move some files over temporarily to make 8gb free on t he laptop, install it, and then put back the files assuming there is enough space.
I asked her to do that, but she got mad at me and said she didn't have time. So I don't want to fuck with her files if I don't have to.

How big is her drive? What did she fill it with? I bet a lot of her stuff can be thrown away. She just doesn't want to bother. She's a file hoarder. And she's just going to get mad if you try to clean up her drive.
I know OSX is completely different from Windows, but I'm just worried that my install is "messy" and slowing down my comp. Seems to be working well though
I have the same worry, but my MBA has been running significantly better since the install, so we'll see.
Definitely. This'll tell you where the clusters of large files are.And GrandPerspective is delicious freeware to help on that task.
I updated a few days ago and Safari has begun to occasionally close randomly when I am browsing the internet. My laptop is pretty new, I think it is the late 2011 model. Has anyone else encountered this same problem.
Can someone help me please, I have a bunch of old Safari Plugins I want to get rid of, under
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/
I can't trash them, can't even modify the permissions, can't authenticate by clicking the padlock, it does nothing.
Tried 'sudo rm -f' but it just tells me the file is a directory (it isn't). Can't chmod my permissions on. What the fuck?
how'd you do that?
As good as Safari is, it's taking up 500mb's of ram doing nothing, which is terrible for my POS 2007 Macbook Pro with 2gb of ram
Intalled an SSD into this thing to give it extra life while I look for another computer, so far so good. I used a new MBP for a while and I greatly miss the awesome new trackpads and their gestures
Mine's got better. I don't know exactly what they've done, but they've made it way less aggressive about switching to the discrete GPU when an app uses a lot of animations, and the couple of times I've used it on battery since ML have had much slower battery drainage as a result.Anyone notice Mountain Lion affecting their MacBook Pro battery life one way or the other? I can't tell for certain but it I think my battery might be draining a bit quicker than usual, even when doing relatively light tasks.

Man, now hot corners don't work unless I restart the system.
I hope Apple patches this soon. I suppose restarting isn't the end of the world, but I'll admit that minute start time and the time to takes to open up everything is painful every time I sit through it. lol
Some people have posted on the Apple boards with the same problem at least. Is this a known bug? I have had no issues with hot corners.
