If df does a shoutout and xbone and ps4 are neck and neck I may just pick this one up on my xbone. Great to and super pumped this game turned out to be good. The franchise deserves it for sure.

Where is my "log"? I'm getting tons of info that says it will be in my log, but I can't find it anywhere.

did I somehow miss being able to customize my max?
I just met the wandering merchant and im still the default looking max

No the "Max" options in your menu don't open till you progress through a little of the game and story missions.

Press Start/Options to get to the menu where you can then access the bios and other information you need.

Spent a few more hours with the game tonight. Absolutely loving every minute. So I took more shots using the game's Capture Mode. lol I have noticed though that when you jump in that mode the the brightness kicks up a notch resulting in some of the colors being a little more washed out than the actual game.

The draw distances are fantastic and the skyboxes...

Messing around with the layer effects and frames..

Car combat is so satisfying and this all early on without the majority of upgrades and toys..

At one point while I was salvaging a War Boy scouting party tried to run me down. I dived out of the way, quickly turned and fired off a round at their fuel drum resulting in blowing the car to pieces and all the members inside blowing out. The end result..lol

This one wasn't blown out of the car like the others but with Capture Mode I found out why: He was the driver and his arm got stuck on the steering wheel and kept him inside! lol

The macabre and horror of the Wasteland..tame to some of the other stuff you see in the game...

Driving around, search old relics or ruins and you'll across details that might be nothing to some but world building nevertheless. Like these skeletons of a couple who long perished, dying together...

Love the lighting. Got my jacket too!

The details though. I love how bruised and messed up Max will get if you take a few punches. It takes a while for them to heal too. Also take a big enough fall and Max will actually buckle and limp on his left leg due to his bad knee.

This game is gorgeous and I'm gonna kill so much time taking pictures. Game is fantastic v and ripe with atmosphere. Highly enjoyably so far.

Spent an hour on the game last night (saving MGS till the weekend) man oh man I really really like the game, the story has me engaged which I didn't get the game for but I am loving it. I didn't even know there was a capture mode so thats cool and perfect for whenever fw 3.0 comes out for the png goodness :)

So I've been watching reviews for the game and have been noticing that the pop in seems to be greatly reduced since those preview videos, ps4 version mostly.

Can any of you confirm this? The pop in for console versions in the preview video was crazy. I have the PC version and it's glorious but thinking about getting the PS4 version so I can play at my parents house.

Yeah this game is landscape porn. Great environmental and skybox art. Only a few hours in and I've wasted so much time with the screeshot mode already. My only complaint is that I wish they made the depth of field sliders faster and more easily readable like Driveclub with an overlay so I'm never guessing where my focal points are.

Alright, take this with a grain of salt cause I can be pretty unobservant and I forgot to even look for it (cause the pop in was very obvious to me at least in gameplay videos), but I haven't noticed any pop in at all.

And pop in is something I usually notice. But... I wouldn't take that as meaning there is none. I've been known to be pretty unobservant.

Well, I really don't care if there is some, the preview videos just had an obscene amount of it.

MGSV has some on PS4 and except huge chunks of terrain shadow that load as you get near, it doesn't bother me.

So yeah, just wanted to make sure the amount of pop in has been reduced or eliminated since the prerelease videos.

How can I change car to a buggy so that I can get to the minefields with the dog? I've been to the garage in the stronghold and I don't see any options for switching vehicles.

XB1 version here. Not noticed any pop in issues at all. The only thing I have come across is some weird texture flickering, but that is being nit picky.

I am super impressed so far.

Instead of getting in the Opus walk towards the entrance/exit and gives you a prompt to leave the stronghold. You'll get another prompt asking if you wan to use the Opus or one of the cars in your collection.

What exactly are you supposed to do with the minefields? I have
the dog and buggy, but I don't really get it. Am I supposed to disarm the mines?

I over did it with the effect things, especially the boarder and not a great picture but I haven't really messed with the capture function yet side from my first attempt at using it. Kind of annoyed the video stuff requires a second person or at least switching but I'll figure that out or just use another method which will probably be easier. Dunno how my computer would handle Windows 10's Game DVR function while playing the game, NVIDIA's might be better. *shrug*

Thats my review version as well and the jump from the preview build when it comes to popin is crazy. Had one issue of Z fighting but never again.

So cool you guys can confirm this. I was watching videos yesterday as I said and I was really trying hard to find pop in, wondering if it was indeed the console version. So yeah, very glad you can confirm this.

It was something that was so bothersome in preview trailers I felt like it made the entire game sort of ugly. It is insanely cleaned up.

BTW, I watched your first impressions/livestream video last night (europe), loved it, I agree with you about what you said in reagards of immediate fun factor in Mad Max vs MGSV when you got asked about enjoying MGSV.

I really enjoy your reviews, very thorough and really valuable input :D

Just wanted to go a bit offtopic to let you know.

I really did not play that much on PC yet, the port is spectacular and the world is truly beatiful, the combat feels really good, it has that nice oomph feeling with each punch you throw. And driving combat so far is really awesome. I think I'll stop playing the PC version right now and start with the PS4 as soon as I get my copy.

So yeah, thanks again.

Drive to minefield. Dog will start barking. Pay attention to the direction of his barking. If he is hanging over to the left side, it means the mine is to the left, if he is standing straight over the rear bar, the mine is straight ahead, over the right its to the right and facing out the back of the tray, its behind you.

You just want to drive cautiously in the direction he's barking at. Eventually he'll get really pissed off and wound up, meaning you are near the mine. By that point, it should be visible. Jump out and walk up to mine and hold action button to disarm.

Oh hey thanks man I appreciate that.

Speaking of combat. I love that unlike Skating Batman, this game requires much more dedication to understanding distance before throwing a punch. Its a small thing but feels just a bit more tactical.

Np :p

I understand what you say, you also mentioned it in your video, Batman zooms/skates up to an enemy if its far away and you press attack button, kind of like a magnet, same with counters, you press counter even if you are kinda far from the attacking enemy and he kind of teleports.

Here, you press parry, and if the enemy is not directly within arm distance, Max just does the failed animation and stays there. Positioning feels tighter here and it does feel like it actually matters.

This said, I always found Batman/Mordor/Assassin's Creed combat, as well as this, pretty simple yet satisfying.

I'll probably get the game at the end of this month by buying the first time from the US store on Xbox One to get it cheaper.

Guys you are making it hard to resist. I was going to get the game anyways but not until later this month. Now I'm not sure I can wait.

Yeah, it's more like an arcadey traditional brawler in this regard, and is absolutely great. Where Batman got easy and boring soon, here combat is visceral and satisfying. Game is a blast. 'Professional' reviews are just bunk.

Well, professional reviews are just an opinion in the end. The final say is yours, you can still enjoy a game more than other objectively superior games, even if it has flaws.

I enjoyed Green Lantern more than I enjoyed the new DMC, both are beat em' ups, DMC is objectively the better one of the two, but I liked Green Lantern more, just more up my alley.

I didn't enjoy Bioshock Infinite, for example, regardless of its awesome critics.

I planned around 2 hours last night and the game has been a joy to play thus far! I'm surprised how much character there is to it and Chumbucket already is a laugh to be around.

I can see where the vast open worldy-ness of the game may become repetitive but so each region has something unique to them to differentiate with each other. The car combat and on foot combat is a lot of fun as well, really satisfy punching the war boys face into a wall :D

This game looks the tits. Can't believe how buttery smooth it runs on PC. Everything maxed and not a single frame dropped. Incredible!

So is there really anything interesting about this game? I can basically get it for free on GMG atm, but I keep suppressing the urge to buy it despite both my love of Mad Max and my previous enjoyment of JC2.

I mean based on the OT and such I can tell it's pretty, but that doesn't really mean much today because what isn't...

Gameplay wise it looks like another batman/ac clone except this time with a mad max coat of paint. Does it really play as bland as it looks, mechanically speaking? After Mordor I've kind of reached a breaking point for these types of games. I mean they're fun, but they all pretty much play the same when you break them down with a few modifiers here and there to give them some form (however transparently sewed on it might be) of individuality. Car combat is take it or leave it imo, and as long as it's not offensive or prostrates itself to the point of ad nauseam (see: batman AK) it won't really bother me. I don't care about the story. Like, I just don't care about it anymore in games. So if its bad whatever, if it's "good" then whatever. I don't care.

Worth picking it up? Or should I save my credit for another game?

The Car combat is what makes this game stand out from other Batman style combat games, its fun (especially when getting the better upgrades) and better than Arkham Knights Batmobile combat. The on foot combat is more brutal than Batman/ SoM.

Also love the fact the PC port is good for a change (as WB) running at a solid 60fps all maxed :) (970/ i5-4690k)

Car customization and combat are a huge, enjoyable part of the game. If you don't like car combat, you're not gonna like this game.

I should correct you on something, though. Batman: Arkham Knight does not have car combat. It just has Car Combat™, which are slow, cumbersome third person shooting segments that consist primarily of strafing. Actual car combat is not slow, and there is no strafing. You can tell because it's called car combat, and that's because you do it with cars, which feature such qualities as "goes fast" and "doesn't move sideways". You shouldn't fall for video game marketing buzzwords, otherwise you may start to slowly go mad and start thinking really absurd thoughts, such as "That Aiden Pierce fellow from Watchunderscoredogs has a really Iconic Cap™".

I've found 9/10 scrap metal. Can't find the last one. Searching for hours. Is this a bug? I'm not able to get the

if I can't find the last scrap metal.

Edit: omfg now I've found it.

put it this way I haven't watched fury road or anything yet so my interest in mad max isnt at all fanboy but my god love the atmosphere to this game. I hope it does well for the developer. I have to agree I haven't seen any type of pop in at all.

Agreed. It feels great, the atmosphere is amazing and it can be downright gorgeous. And am I the only one who likes the voice work for Chumbucket? You just have to love the guy and his pitch-perfect bizarre ramblings.

I like his ramblings too and he is gross but not in a too gross type of way

So, after about 2 hours of playing, I must say I'm impressed. It is just like I imagined but in fact, it looks much better (PS4).
The game, while 30fps unlocked, runs butter smooth so far, v-synched, and has a very impressive draw distance with very little pop-in. Lighting is really well done and so is the sound overall.

The only thing I didn't necessarily expect (even though I should have because... Avalanche) is how bad the controls are. You get used to it after maybe 20-30 minutes but Mad Max is less responsive than GTA4-5/Witcher3/RDR/Watch Dog/name it... Especially on foot. Car controls are ok, but definitely could have been better too. At least the physics are there and very well implemented.

So, very solid game so far. Just don't mind the controls at first.

Great pictures all, keep them coming!

I have played 4 hours or so. This game is actually a ton of fun. I will wait until I have progressed further to post more detailed impressions, but they are all positive so far

Played more last night- working on that Magnum Opus, and I needed to remark on the outstanding audio- those of us spoiled with linear uncompressed 5.1 or 7.1 setups (9.2-*cough) everything from footsteps in sand to revving engines-to wind to the amazing soundtrack- its all mixed very well- it literally is a crime it has not been mentioned in great detail in reviews.

After some upgrades I took down a convoy only to get hit by a twister or something just as I was getting out of the car to collect the ornament. I lost all the scrap but it's a good thing important stuff seems to stick around. I don't know what happened, I stopped and was getting out when something happened and the Magnum Opus just did a fast barrel roll in the air off screen and I was dead. o_O Wish I could've/would've capped it.

I harpooned this guy as he was about to t-bone me, released and well... His head went (okay, clipped) through the door.
Survived my first storm and I think I got over 900 scrap out of it which was a nice boost since I was saving up for a couple things. I could've done a better job with this but got it off with some good timing. Shit is tense.

I've been enjoying taking jumps way too much, I probably should've taken this show more and an angle with the ramp I went off.

Just bought this because it looked so nice. I haven't played more than a few hours of AC/Batman type games, so I'm sure I'll enjoy it considering the main criticism I hear is "I'm over this type of game".
