Madden Season 10 Official Thread: I want you back for good!

The offensive line is garbage altogether in this game. I haven't played anyone who can consistently run the ball between the tackles and get yardage, everything is always bounced to the outside for yards. If you have a speed back you can easily run in this game, but if you don't then unless you're playing someone who doesn't play run D very well or just get a lucky run then you won't be getting shit. The main problem is when people blitz linebackers easily get right through resulting in way too many busted up plays in the backfield. I try to run counters or stretch plays with Denver and 9 times out of 10 Henry is either blasted right when he gets the ball or before he gets to the line he has 2-3 defenders in his face. People complain about the pass defense being ninja like, I think the pass defense is fine it's the run defense that is the problem.
The pass blocking sucks for the same reason as the run, defenders all too easily get right through for sacks. If I am holding on to the ball too long and getting sacked, that's one thing. However if I can barely finish dropping back into the pocket before 2 defenders are in my face, that's a problem.
I have other big gripes with the game... like I cannot go deep to Javon Walker without him doing that stupid ass 5 foot leap. It usually results in a catch because I don't go deep too much unless it's 1 on 1 but some times he gets crushed, the ball pops out and it's picked off. Other times my guys won't even try to catch the ball, especially on certain routes like out routes or post routes towards the middle. Last night I was playing a game for another league, scrambled away from a blitz and found Marshall in the endzone, threaded it between 2 defenders only to have him sit and watch it hit him in the chest and fall to the ground. Play action seems way too effective because line containment is shit. I still like the game but sometimes it feels like it's just as random as last year for entirely different reasons.

I agree completely about the offensive line blocking. I remember the Madden 08 producer glowing about how they have a former offensive lineman who worked line play for them on the game. Well it may not have been his fault, but it sure doesn't show up in the game. Also, a huge gripe is the same issue Wellington has. The fullback misses his blocking assignment consistently, leaving you 1 on 1 with a linebacker who is charging in. Unless you have a finesse back that can make quick cuts you are toast. The inside running game is completely useless if you have a bruising running back. With Cedric Benson, those outside sweeps are useless because he doesn't have breakaway speed.

Seems to be that if your tailback is enough of a beast you can pretty much do whatever you want, whenever you want. Even the mighty Williams Wall (TM) can't stop Larry Johnson for shit, and an 85 rated back like Adrian Peterson can pound out the yards. But with your everyday generiback like, I dunno, Chris Brown, good luck getting back to the line.
I have to think that playcalling and D still play an important roll in the running game. Willis McGahee is supposedly a beast in this game. Really fast and super powerful, yet I can't run for shit with him against above average D. Part of that has to be because I've only played a few games and are playing against people who've played this version for longer. (very) Good backs can get shut down..I'm living proof!

Playing those guys online though I found a few running plays that work. I almost feel I should call them cheese plays because I can get almost 8 yard carries every now and then on them :lol
I don't think anyone thinks its really crap, there are just crap aspects. Ones that we just can't fathom that would be overlooked by Tiburon. It's not even truly a game breaking flaw, but it does force you to almost exclusively run outside plays. Oh and I just figured something out,if you do a run play up the middle and use a power back, and don't touch anything sometimes the computer will glitch through other players and break one for 10 :lolFifty said:

Man I just played Sableholic, that fucking guy is such a cheeseball. He ran and passed the ball. He also mixed up his defenses! Fuck that dude.
I have an idea.......let's take a poll on a set of 4 offensive plays (2 run and 2 pass) and 4 defensive plays (2 blitz and 2 coverage) and make those the only acceptable plays to run in league play.....also we could force everyone to use the same play book......lol......seriously though, I have noticed the only time that my opponent has actually been successful on the run against my Ravens defense was FMT with Frank Gore....and I am only off and on successful with the run with McGahee, usually only against the lower rated defenses.

again im not here to blindly defend the game. there are 3-5 plays every game where the D-line just tosses aside the lineman and you say bullshit. but i'm just not experiencing the poor running game that you guys are. not sure if you want me to agree with you just for the sake of agreeing. i had 9 rushes for 19 yards against the cards and i dont think i got BS'd with those numbers. i missed some cut backs, other times i cut back into a defender when i shouldn't have. there are problems with the running game but not game breaking for me. maybe you should all have a frank gore on your team?

the only reason you had a 3.5 avg is because i caught you for losses of 5, 4 and 4. take away those 3 runs and you were averaging about 5.5 yards per carry. and it wasn't like you got 1 big run and then got stuffed the rest of the game. you were constantly getting 2nd and 3, 2nd and 4, 2nd and 1's.

I was able to succeed very well with those in preseason. Maybe it was just one game. Your LB's have really good speed so maybe that was it.

while i dont think the running game is "broken", i will say those tackles before the handoff are flat out bullshit. in all my years of watching NFL football (18 years?) i have seen that happen MAYBE a total of 10 times. 10 times in 18 years and i think i'm being generous. but i see it probably at least once a game in madden. all i can say is last year the offense was way too strong, this year the defense is way too strong, madden 09 perfect!
i think the 6 minute quarters will also help the running game because it will give people more of a chance to get into a rhythm.
btw played a game against sable tonight. lost 24-17. he had i think about 150 yards rushing, and a LOT of it came up the middle. i know that's not going to convert any of you who are having issues but i just want to point out it's possible to run in this game. i'm contemplating putting the physical "line pinch" (RB + down on the D-pad) to a vote as being banned just as line spread is. the D-line is too strong this year and what i see a lot of people do is pinch the line, spread the linebackers. i mean i can still run on that but it's just like uh ok? on every play??

Also, I just looked at my schedule... I shouldn't have picked a team that plays the Seahawks. It will sicken me to lose to the Hawks. Next league can't FMT make a rule that there are no Seahawks allowed?
