Really confused by stuff like this. We knew it was a Masters set and that after MM2 they weren't gonna make the same kind of mistake in terms of just printing crap. They explained that there would be a major theme of the five iconic creature types (which there is) and also "iconic" spells (which is a much vaguer proposition but Mana Drain and Necropotence certainly qualify.) The list of exciting stuff that's not on the Reserved List is pretty short and it's easy to see it's not just gonna be a wall of big rare fatties; also, literally every reprintable card was a possible choice for either Modern or Eternal Masters so by definition this was going to be an overlap of the two.
It's about more than subjective visual appeal, though. It's about adhering to 25 years of ingrained design methodology and straying away from that for absolutely no tangible benefits
Where's mine wizardssssss
Also lol

Literally the entire point of these lands is that they're different from the norm tho.
lolThis set owns. But the most important part is THEY DIDN'T REPRINT CHALICE BOOYAH
If you go to a game store, you can actually get a starter deck for free if you say you're new. After that, you can buy a Planeswalker Deck.Tips to start playing?
What to buy, good and cheap starter decks, etc
One of the LGS in my area does a free tournament where they hand out the starter decks randomly. I went last time and it was really fun.
My whole post was about the Ultimate Guard Matte sleeves, those are slick and would slide if used for an EDH deck.

Once everyone goes through these one more time and we have a pretty settled checklist for IMA I'll pull together the plausible options.
These are two different things that both happened.
There's a few spells that are iconic but that's just because it's literally impossible make a reprint set covering the whole game without some number of "iconic" cards. Necropotence might apply but I don't see how Mana Drain does - it really hasn't been legal in forever and certainly never defined a deck. Lightning Bolt. Sengir Vampire. Counterspell. Serra Angel. Those are "iconic cards," and also not in the set. Horizon Canopy isn't "iconic," its just a card that sees constructed play. The design aesthetic isn't different in any way than EMA2 - just print a bunch of constructed cards and semi random junk rares from across Magic's history. I don't doubt M25 wasn't helpful in curating this set. I'm also not seeing this "tribal" element actually existing beyond a bunch of the jank being Angels, but janky angels was a thing in MMA and EMA too because practically every set ever made has a bunch of janky angels. Even the list of commons/uncommons doesn't seem to have much there.
Don't get me wrong: I'm not mad about it as I was never going to get anything from the set because I don't have the money for $10 packs. I just fail to see how they executed on the admittedly vague theme. It's just random expensive constructed cards, and frankly, not that many of them.
Also, if we make it to M25 and you're starting to grip about the price of your Chalices, I'm going to just laugh at you.
Mana Drain
You don't need to adjust every knob and slider in front of you just because you can.
Mana Drain, Necro, Channel. The face cards are there, even if it's just Eternal Masters II.

Sure, but this is like the exact kind of place where things like "how well do new players parse this" or "how much is this clearly and unambiguously a Magic card that couldn't possibly be anything else" can be ignored the most seriously.
I think there was a fake pic w/ that, Shadowmage and Niv-Mizzet and one more card.I have no idea where Erwin saw Apprentice Necromancer is in IMA since it doesn't fit the crunch, could really use a pic.
There's like 8 of them worth more than the pack it comes in and a bunch of cards that are just EDH fodder like Avacyn.I have no idea where Erwin saw Apprentice Necromancer is in IMA since it doesn't fit the crunch, could really use a pic.
EDIT: also I feel IMA is closer to Modern Masters than to Eternal Masters. The majority of rares and mythics seem to be modern legal and modern playable.
Lol 32 people at FNM. I think people want fatal pushes.

I just got back from mine. We had multiplayer Commander as the FNM format. The TO didn't want to deal with organising prize packs for multiplayer, so she literally just gave everyone who turned up a Push instead of prize packs. Not sure how I feel about that considering the entry fee was the same as usual, but eh, a guaranteed Push is probably better than a chance at some packs.

Personally, I love the modern minimalist frame of the un3 lands. I will definitely get a set or two of these for my decks. Do we know if we are guaranteed one per pack, or is it gonna be one out of every 4?
I don't think they have confirmed, but the other two Un sets were one per pack, so would imagine it would be the same here. Helps to make sure you have some reason to sell packs, although $4 lands are kind of expensive.Personally, I love the modern minimalist frame of the un3 lands. But remember, the promo doesn't affect attendance. WOTC said so!
While its true they have more data, it would still have been nice if most promos in the past year+ were better.

Still, this will get me to get at least one box, probably two along with buying what I need to get up to 20 of each. Really hope it has some fun draft cards like Booster Tutor and Richard Garfield PhD to make a nice 24 card supplementary set for a cube (1 per cube pack), just to spice up my cube every once in awhile.
These are the only reason Un3 will sell any packs, so they'll be one per pack for sure.

U is Blue. W white, U blue, B black, R red, G green.I'm on the fence about Fatal Push as I don't think it's worth $9.
Also, what does the U stand for in certain decks? e.g. U/W.
MaRo (Mark Rosewater) in 2009 said:Before I move on, I want to talk about blue. Us old timers might have forgotten that it's weird that U means blue, but I know it throws new players for a loop the first time they see it. So why is blue U? For the card code to work, each letter had to be unique within each designation (although it's fine for the same letter to mean something different between the first and second letterthat's why U is both blue and uncommon and R is both rare and red). Blue and black both start with a "B." This meant that one of them had to choose a new letter.
The second letter for both colors is "L". As I showed above, "L" means land. The powers that be wanted to use the first letter whenever possible, so land got to keep "L." Black's third letter is "A." A is reserved for artifacts. This meant that Blue had "U" and "E" and Black had "C" and "K." (In the early days before Wizards spelled it out, incidentally, some players used "K" for black.) Why did we end up going with U? Basically because it was earlier in it's word than Black's "C" or "K."
Rishadan Port spike incoming?
Chalice too. Depends on how impatient people are.

My main LGS only does random handout promos so I'm not usually peeved out about losing out. But my LGS gets ~avg attendance of like 90-100 ppl each friday so.

My list is tuned for that, ROBOTS COMING FOR YA
I updated that post with why it is U. Makes sense and might make it easier to remember.Oh. That's been bugging me for a while. lol
Damn, that's good attendance.

I bought a booster of Eldritch today and got Liliana, The Last Hope. Good times, as I have normally gotten foil lands as the "special" card.
When will the beta for arena start?
