This has been educational. I can see where the author going with this series, but, this is still a series about talking vagina, and protagonist age & ditzy nature could be taken the wrong way, so i can understand why the publisher decide to cancel the series...
But honestly, i think Kodomo no jikan is far more risque than this.

Glad I decided to restart UQ Holder from the beginning after finishing Negima I'm getting more out of the references and call backs.
If you made your living raising people you'll make them die more often too.

Not only there is a chance they will fight Laius group that supposedly had rescue them, but also they'll never know the existence of treasure bug, thus they're open to fall into such traps again.

Negima thoughts
Negima was a series I knew of more for its infamous bait and switch from harem rom com to battle shonen but could never get over the initial harem rom com hump, I'm glad I finally did as Negima is truly one of the most enjoyable manga experiences I've bad in awhile. Once the series actually starts when Eva shows up as a vampire the series has the perfect balance of action, magic, comedy, and romance that many series attempt but few balance as well as Negima. The series could have easily suffered from massive tonal shifts that in my opinion the series largely avoided by keeping a general fun tone even during the more serious elements. Even the initial descent into battle shonen is done fairly gracefully where it doesn't feel like a complete out of nowhere punch to the gut.
If I have to criticise the series besides for the painful opening is what has been mentioned before the somewhat abrupt ending where it feels like not only was there more story to tell but more story happened off screen leaving the audience with a happy ending that only feels half earned. This is most noteable when a sacrifice made by one character in the finale is instantly undone in the next chapter leaving me with the impression more was planned if the author hadn't intentionally rushed the finale. Going off that the series tries to make me feel something for all of Negi's students in the finale, yet really only about half of them got enough screen time for me to know and care about them. Heck even those who do get screen time it feels like their story lines were cut short like Ako's and Yuna's while others felt shoved in randomly towards the finale to give their character any significance such as Zazie's and Akira's. Though the poor cheer leading squad and the twins get the worst of this being truly irrelevant to the entire story and while I know the final volume/the wiki reveals what their powers were its a shame the promise of a teacher and his class of magic powered girls never fully happened.
Another big gripe I have with the series is group battles/multiple battles happening at the same time. I love these things but Ken is pretty weak at them though most of Negima. I have no problem focusing most of the screen time on Negi afterall he's our protagonist and lead, but don't set up various one on one or group battles to only show them for a few pages when said battle starts and a few pages when someone wins. In addition despite being a series where you have a sea of magic powered girls running around and this whole partner and mage combo set up we almost always just get one on one mage vs mage while the partners are off fighting somewhere else. This probably was caused by power creep where Negi and Fate were simply too OP to be around the others but after the earlier arcs where Negi worked with Asuna and Setsuna to defeat bad guys and cover for each other's weaknesses the rest of the characters quickly became "stall out the other bad guys so negi can beat the big bad/heal".
That's really my biggest negatives with the series and they're more frustrating then deal breaking as Negima is already a 4.5/5 series for me its just frustrating how close it comes to being completely amazing but falling just a bit short. If I had to pick my favorite characters are Fate, Nodoka, Yue, Eva, and Chao. I would have loved to see more teacher Fate as the few scenes of that we got were really hilarious. Fate steals the show whatever scene he's in his discussion with Negi about coffee vs tea is probably my favoite scene in the whole series, just watching Fate goad Negi while arguing about coffee is fantastic.
On the topic of Negi's implied crush at the end, if the translation was accurate Asuna's comments would lead me to think Negi has a crush on either Nodoka or Yue as they are the two girls who are closest to Negi personality wise for her "you two are similar" line with a slight edge toward Nodoka. Chisame is probably the "best" partner for Negi as she truly comes a long way and serves as his emotional and mental core for pretty much the entire second half of the series where without her Negi never would have succeeded, but I never got an impression Negi like liked Chisame but more highly respected her.
So tl;dr, Negima is a great series with some flaws that while arguably fairly major don't detract from how enjoyable the series is, I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good battle shonen with some rom com comedy, just be warned those first 15 pages are really tough.

Seriously though, solid ending, the Inari melodrama was whatever but at least Koji was able to show that he was not completely useless after all. Touka becoming a god was really the best way out, sucks for his awesome parents though.

Yeah which while nice was the safest and most boring confirmed ship, the only other girl even debatebly interested in Korarou was that older girl who lived with Natsume and the class rep and she is another victim of disappearing for half the series and never being relevant.

I like how in Negima every chance the author had for a panty shot he took, in UQ Holder there's been no panty shots so far instead everyone's just straight up nude half the time. The highlight of this being Karin doing flips and shit not showing us a single panty shot, then her clothing gets completely destroyed and she finishes the fight completely nude like its no big deal.
