Are you talking about Doujima? Because he does remember Soma's Dad. I'm also pretty sure he saw the similarities between Soma and his Dad. The different name is probably what's throwing people off. Somewhat similar looks can be marked as coincidence thanks to the different surnames.

If that was the case the whole thing wouldn't make sense so him having a different surname at the time helps with that
Plus he apparently didn't graduate so that would help also since his name isn't that out there.

Teppu really is a weird sports manga. Cast the bad guy as the protagonist and the typical shounen protagonist as the bad guy and suddenly everything is confused. Do you cheer for the main girl? Do you cheer for the "villain"? Who knows, but good times. lol
