Digital Devil Saga is much better than Persona 3 and probably Persona 4 anyway. I feel like I'll hate P4 for the same reasons I did P3 anyway.

I'm finally going through all my GAF recommendations. I believe this one was from wonzo.
The character interactions were very strange, and motivations for the whole scenario were somewhat hard to follow. I found it very surreal and interesting.
There's definitely a guy licking a foot on this page
Yeah, and the guy whose foot is being licked does not seem to be enjoying it.
Lets eat akito-kun for teasing us
I thought we were over this...
i can put on make up for you akito-kun
This is getting really weird.
I like it.
Everyone is all caught up on Baby Steps and Kingdom.
I'm caught up with neither, though!
Please don't hurt me.

P4 does fixes some problems.

Makes the story flow better instead of it being all confided to monthly events.
Gameplay improvements of being able to crazy your dumb party members, the social links is more forgiving in getting everything done, etc etc.

I mean the characters are still so-so and it's still pretty much more of the same, but I still found it enjoyable.

Though not so enjoyable for me to ever finish the platinum run for it...

The big problem I had with P3 was its pacing and length, so if stuff actually happens more than once a month I'd consider that an improvement. Honestly though, I'm turned off by the fact that I can't advance the plot at my own pace and have to figure out how to waste time in between events. Social links are pointless most of the time, and the only reason I suffered through them was to unlock persona.

I have P4 sitting at my parents' house still wrapped in plastic, so I figure I have to play it eventually. Maybe during spring break, who knows. If I have to spend another 100 hours completing it though, I might just hate myself the entire way through.

I mean that's still a problem though. Things happen at a certain time so once you finished the plot before then, you basically have free time to burn around and become best buds with people. There's just more plot scattered around between them.

I mean it does sound like Persona (at least the modern ones) aren't as enjoyable. Might as well try the superior SMT series~

SMT will never be superior as long as Persona 3 exists :p

P4G has a lot more "events" so to speak and more to do (than even vanilla P4 does). The problem with P3 for me is that most nights in the game I just go to bed early because once you've pumped your stats up there's no reason to do anything at night other than the 2 night-time social links.

If you just don't like the sim aspects of managing the social links and such, you probably won't like 4 any more than 3, though.

It's a good RPG and a good gateway to the superior SMT series.

My whole thing is that I really don't like RPGs that much (actually, it's grind of any sort that I don't like- if at any point I feel like i'm doing something just for the sake of leveling up, I just want to shut the game off), but I really do enjoy visual novels. The problem is that we don't get many non-pornographic ones translated into english. Persona 3 and 4 have tons of visual novel trapings, and I deal (harsh word, I do enjoy the gameplay) with the RPG stuff. I've tried both Soul Hackers and SMT 4, and basically stopped after an hour because they bored me. I'm going through the same thing with Bravely Default right now, which is harshly contrasted by Danganronpa to me as games that came out the same week.

The other problem with 3, especially for the Male MC, is that the Social Links mostly suck, and character development is rough. Mitsuru, Fuuka and Yukari are all locked behind maxing out a stat (which could take a long time, odds are you aren't going to get all 3 done till super late in the game unless you know what you are doing), there are no social links for Akihiko, Ken and Shinji (and Aigas unless you are playing FES or P3P). Basically, if you want to learn more about your crew, your stuck with Junpei (who is unavalible for a portion of the game). FeMC fixes this by making all the males Slinks (and romancable), and makes Yukari available from the start.

I think overall the story is better in P3 over P4, but it's kind of hard to compare the games as the scale in P3 is much larger than P4.

Bravely Default was fun, though at this point I'm just attached to the soundtrack.

Has anyone read this Manga? Is it good?

Saw it while browsing Amazon and the cover caught my attention.

I personally enjoyed Doubt when I read it. I'll note that it has some issues with some of the big reveals but, at the end of the day, it's just a decent mini-murder mystery thriller.

It's probably best suited for just a kind of read through and not really a "read and try to analyze all of it ever" sort, though.

The Seven Deadly Sins v3 (15 - 22)
Well I thought Ban was the best so far but the surprising appearance of King closer to the end of the chapter changed things completely. Back to back introductions of amazing character designs and interactions made the final chapters quite the page turner. Far more interested in their fights and dealings (Teddie Bear story was cute/funny) than a few of the other plot things with the knight who showed up in this land of the dead.

Still a bit shocked King would try to fossilize Ban.

This was better than I expected! My friend recommended the film to me a few years ago, but I never got around to it. About half way through, I thought I recognized where the story was going. When it turned out I was wrong, it got pretty crazy.

A pretty well put together mystery with twists that aren't contrived or boring.

It also doesn't help that Danganronpa is completely superior.

I've read the first couple volumes, then forgot to read how it ends. It didn't feel too bad to me, but I remember reading some negative opinions on here from people who have completed it as it disappointing or something.
If nothing else, the art was nice.

I don't know why but I'm really looking forward to DTL finding out about everything with Ban and King.

Wish it had more after it, though maybe it would've become rather silly if it found a way to keep going.

So I just read a bit about Doubt and it seems like the premise is similar to Danganronpa/Battle Royale. Definitely interested in checking it out now. Are they any other Manga in the same veins as those as well?

One of the bigger problems for me, particularly in P3, is the fact that a lot of the link stuff ends up being hard to do since the chicks all get mad at you for being a cad. Its more realistic, but it sucks, especially when Mitsuru (who is easily the most popular character in P3) doesn't become available until 40+ hours into the game and is very easily miss-able due to all the prereqs.

I think the sequel, Judge, should be like it somewhat too? Osama Game is also somewhat similar with a bit of survival/mystery/horror.
Enigma as well, though the end disappointed me.

That reminds me, I never bothered reading Judge. I assume it's still going and isn't totally awful? Doubt wasn't bad enough to drive me away from more from the author.

Edit: Oh hey links right there. Guess it finished and guess I should get to reading that eventually then.

Basically another case of the game getting in it's own way lol.

You could miss Mitsuru route?

Oh yeah, that whole thing was pretty realistic and also pretty annoying.

Probably the only time you could even get a broken social link, lol. Oh I guess besides that Moon girl in P4.

Great premise, awful, and I do mean awful resolution. The ending just doesn't make any sense whatsoever.

JUDGE, by the same author, is better, and the main twist of this manga is so unexpected I bet ANYONE reading it the 1st time would not be able to guess it.

Yeah, you needed to max out Academics (harder than Charm or Courage), and Mitsuru is only available once once a week (I think), and there are story events that make her unusable for stretches. Unless you are using a guide, there is basically no chance of you maxing her out on your first playthru, and even then it's pretty hard.

I'm guessing you didn't get to Valentines Day in P4G, where if you are an unfaithful person, you will be facing a reckoning!

It (just in case)
feels like they wanted to make some added mystery to the whole thing. Doubt is predictable as hell up until the "lol guess who's alive still and hypnosis!!!" reveal. If it just stayed true with the girl being crazy then it'd have been a fine murder thriller
.

Hm, I don't remember it being that hard to finish but it's been a long time. welp.

Would I need to read Doubt first or can I go straight to Judge?
