Its stupid because the point of the flashback should be explaining something about Madara and the Uchiha, not merely showing us stuff we could already figure out on our own (i.e. Madara is an asshole.)

I don't think so. I think it was just a similarly named technique (it didn't appear anything like Flying Thunder God) and many translators have an unfortunate tendency to just leave random words untranslated causing confusion.

Yeah, I was pretty disappointed. I got the complains from people who didn't really care about it, but I saw it as a chance to flesh out the relationship between Hashirama and Madara a bit more and what lead to the huge fight in the Valley of the End and I liked it until this chapter. Now he might as well didn't bother.
