Yeah sorry, I should have clarified my original post. I was thinking more of anime -> manga adaptation where the manga is the definitive version or with enough differences to warrant reading on its own merits and not just because you are fan of the movie.
Now that's a high bar you've set there, I can't think of anything else either. Most of the anime to manga adaptations are just some cheap ploys to market the anime anyway so it's not like there are that many who even attempt to make something that' better than the anime.

I've heard good things about Kiyoshirou Inoue's Overman King Gainer manga adapt; that and Voices of a Distant Star are the only ones that immediately come to mind.

Brother Shuffle! 1

Why do all the good series have to be in bi monthly magazines?! Really fun start to this series of switching souls. Older brother Haruki is so mean and such to everyone and even his younger brother Mafuyu, while Mafuyu is so sweet and kind and loves those desserts and makes the best faces. Though when they switched its just so odd the expressions they not make, especially Mafuyu in Haruki. Akiyama is great and am glad that Haruki is falling for him hopefully, cant wait to see where this goes in the next few months.
Waiting for a bimonthly series really sucks :( A Girl by the Sea took so long to finish.

Good thing that the magazine where A Bride's Story is published in switched from bimonthly release schedule to 10 issues/year.

Angry Grimace

Two cannibals are eating a clown. One turns to the other and says "does something taste funny to you?"
But by that logic, every woman in the series has a crippli- oh.

I don't know, just everything about KNIM pisses me off. Akari being like "Haruto can you plug me" just annoys the shit out of me because as far as I can tell the only purpose in continuing the series is so Haruto can turn down more chicks begging for his wang.

That's great news, I didn't know that. More Otoyomegatari and Swagamoto \o/
Speaking of which, where's my next chapter?

A trifecta of wrongness

and now it's a quad-fecta of wrongness since you used One Piece!

Welp...

Time to write a petition asking for the OP anime to be replaced with a motion comic.
It worked for JJBA
Thought that the guy had made them, thanks.

The Law one seems to be pretty recent, these are hella cool.

Those gifs make me want to read One Piece.

Have you ever read it all or did you stop? The first couple volumes are iffy, at least for me but depending on where you dropped it then it probably wont be worth coming back into it.

I love it, but I know its not for everyone though.

Unless you live in Japan, in which case its for everyone.

They look like these bad French manga ads, except this one has a bit more effort put into it.

Japan has a particular taste though. I know a couple people here think most of the reasons One Piece isn't as popular as Naruto or Bleach in the west is because of factors like a botched anime dub, the appeal of pirates vs. ninjas etc. but I think its just because it has a more niche appeal than either of those.

EDIT:^What do french manga ads look like?

Blows my mind to see a manga TV ad. The way the books come down at the end is straight out of a pokemon ad.

I marathoned it about two years ago, caught up, then I dropped pretty much all manga around December 2011 and only started reading again a whole year later. It turns out I was only 7 chapters away from the end of Fishman Island. Motivated by that, I got back into it, only to get disappointed with the terrible Punk Hazard arc. I dropped it after someone beat the assassins, who beat Zoro and co. I thought that whole part was ridiculous. I'll get back into it, but It's not a priority for me.

:lol I agree, they look so terrible.
The Punpun one is cool though.

Oh, I love the guy doing the voice-over in this ad, you often hear him in ads and whatnot.

Really? I'd argue that One Piece is successful because of its lowest common denominator appeal.

I was thinking of the Punpun trailer that kurita posted above.

I always thought it had to do with the different exposure manga get in the west. Like, most manga peeps in the west are teenagers and teenagers are more likely than kids or older dudes to prefer Naruto over OP.

I liked the Punk Hazard arc, but to be honest I probably would've been happy with anything after Fishman Island.

The new one is cool so far but we're only a handful of chapters in.

So yeah, definitely catch up when you have the time. I like reading the jump series weekly but they can be a lot more tolerable in batch.

EDIT: Don't watch Jojo so I hadn't seen it. The Punpun one was rad as well but too slow. Made me want an anime adaption of a series that uses the art of the manga somehow. I know people are joking about a One-Punch Man anime already half done by Murita but it really would be aweomse

I agree with you on Naruto and Bleach, but I find One Piece to be much easier to read on a weekly basis. Catching up is a bit of a chore, because so many things tend to happen at once in a single OP chapter.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Vol 32

Not really a fan of Koichi/Echoes vs crazy hair girl. I wish the story stuck with Josuke & Okuyasu, they are much better characters.

Baka & Gogh v1-2 (end)
I wished that the story actually ended with the first volume because it was a fantastic slice of life story about 3 close friends who were trying to figure out a way to live their dreams. The ending was not ideal but RL hardly is. The second volume was filled with NTR and angst and as opposed to say OMK, that was not entirely necessary to the story IMO, the characters could have make the growth just fine without it.
Ah well, it's still a good read in the end but it could have been much better. Oh and the art is great, quite alternative but not too wacky either, I've only read Obrigado from Katou but that was way weirder.

Well tons of people do like OP due to the fact it crams so much information into single chapters weekly. One arc which I think Oda overdid it was in the War arc, far too much stuff was happening in the background which is easily unseen while the higher ups were going on their duke fest.

Did you like the short stories that were included?

I'm not saying that it's a bad thing, on the contrary. It's great when you're reading it weekly. Most of the time anyway, but reading it in a batch can be exhausting.

I did like the 2 in the first volume, the one with the helmet in particular. Can't say that I actually unterstood the one in the second volume :lol

I think there was one with a night radio and one that involved time travel that I remember liking.

Fidelis Hodie

I think the flashbacks are better read in bulk though.

Always are. Flashbacks in general always feel like a chore to me, especially weekly.

Hence the Naruto dropping.

edit: then again, thinking about it, I loved the flashback about his dad which was completely relevant and more exciting that most of what was going on. It's more the 1,000,000 flashback special technique for characters I have no emotional attachment to at all and would have just been better off filling in the blanks for myself than being force fed their terribly tragic background.

I don't get the time travel one then. I could come back and read it but I guess I'll just move on and check out the other manga from Katou.

Everyone loves to troll the hell out of Ryushika.

I'd say that's true for flashbacks in general, because they usually drag on for a while, where it gets annoying.

There are exactly two long flashbacks (greater than 1 chapter) I've ever truly enjoyed:

1) One Piece - Montblanc Norland's adventures of Jaya

2) Berserk - Golden Age arc
