Witch Hunt 1

Edgy one volume story about a pair of criminal teenagers that very much like Dexter they suffered when they were little years ago from a psychopath actions and now they repeat the same crimes they suffered while being psychologically stunted.
It was... mediocre, to be honest. It has a plot twist in the last chapter that almost improve the level of the world but eh, it was an asspull. The drawing is also uninteresting and a bit below average. In fact the cover is the nicest part.

Man, this was bad, from the art to the characters themselves. Whinny, nosy girl tries to figure out what seemingly magical boy's deal is. Holy shit did she get on my nerves

This sounds me from somewhere. Did it had a Light Novel or Anime?

I remember reading this and liked the concept

Maybe the novel is better

From the author of Usagi Drop, we have were an atypical one volume love story, where the MC is a college guy with a love for the "spaces in between", the gaps that let the imagination fly, and a girl that also have her own kind of hobbies.

Pretty decent, though it isn't enough to be praise worthy.

That is some super lewd water drinking

I knew you would like it! ^^

I remember this. It was odd and disquieting, but not in a good way. Didn't know it was by the Usagi Drop person though.

Ehhh, the author could have been gone for the creepy angle for the story, but imo it's super subdued, showing it to the reader as an oddity and in the end
they both like each other and she is even more a peeping tom.
There are other peeping toms mangas that are more "hardcore".

Right, but I think it being subdued is part of the reason I didn't like it. I didn't find it disturbing because of his
or her
fetish, I think it was because they never felt like they were real to me. They were oddly abstract in a way, I think. Things happened, but they always felt disjointed. I dunno.

I liked the chapter. I like this arc though, so I guess you can take that with a grain of salt.

No, I'm referring to Mushishi Tokubetsu Hen Hihamu Kage, which immediately got an animated adaptation (on Crunchyroll... they call it an "OVA", but I believe it's really a TV special).

Also, Bioluminescence is actually the title of Urushibara's first short story collection (although she was using the name "Shima Soyogo", back then). Filament basically is a reprint from another publisher, except one short story is missing, and two more have been added.
As for the two "modern-day Mushishi stories" you're referring to above, they're short stories called "Mushishi" (虫師) published in 1994 and 1996, and became the inspiration for the eventual Mushishi (蟲師) series. They can be found in both Bioluminescence and Filament.
oh, I see, thanks. guess I got the wrong info from the site that I checked the other day.
if that's Hihamukage then I already saw it, didn't know that it was the most recent work though.

Any prominent male authors working on gay romances, excluding bara? It's always seemed to be a field aimed at women by women.

Naruto, One Piece, Bleach, Bakuman.

Well, this exchange sure killed me.

I got Whispered Words volume 1 today and it's way bigger than I imagined. Not as big as that Titan colossal, but it could still serve as a weapon on its own.

Huh.

Considering how hardcore and bleak some of hentai under the Cuvie name can be, this is kind of surprising.

And oh great, here I am at the top of the page talking about Hentai. Oh well :p

Cuvie being a woman has been discussed before in the thread, I find it surprising you'd find it surprising!
She makes all ranges of manga, from normal to porn, from vanilla to dark, which makes it funny to read certain reactions from people that only knows of her most vanilla stuff when they get to read the darker ones. She's quite eclectic (hoping this is the right word) in her range of works, with a great art style and interesting stories/writing, which makes her awesome. I'm a fan of hers, obviously.
Her Dorothea manga has been published in the west, I'd hope the ballet one would get picked up too.

Host Man 1-2
jExOfzk.png

30-year-old apprentice mangaka, Shota Kobayashi, is a loser and kind of ugly. After failing to get serialized, he lashes out at his friends. He sinks even lower when he find out his girlfriend was never in love with him and spent all his money on host clubs. Dejected, he wanders the streets thinking over how everyone has been telling him he doesn't understand women. Then he sees a hiring ad. And now, to become the ultimate shoujo mangaka, he must become a host!

Second chapter is mostly introducing the other characters that will be interacting with our ugly main character. So we have the eccentric pretty boy (Soul), the blond Italian pretty boy (Marco), the pretty "boy" (Memeta), and the stoic glasses guy (Justin). Impressed by Shota's resolve and his dream, Soul hires him immediately and instantly puts him to work.

Interesting to say the least. Apparently, "the events of this manga are based on the (shy, non-drinking) author's own experiences working as a host!" I'll hazard a guess that this will be a light adaptation. And it's also a comedy. It does a pretty decent job of establishing the main character though the hosts' introduction comes off a little weak. I suppose characterization will come later when they interact with the mangaka lead. Which, by the way, looks to be soon since the host club is putting Shota on the floor on his first day.

Japan is being ravaged by a mysterious illness called Sudden Death Syndrome where people suddenly die. Turns out they are actually being killed large stuffed animals. Our protag is a guy who's talent is making stuff animals and now he's tasked with finding out way.

Pretty interesting. The art's pretty clean which I rather like. The protag isn't bad, a nice gimmick of making stuff animals and the series does highlight how creepy stuffed animals can be.

Also chapter 3 was basically death flags everywhere.

KINGDOM 387

Where the heck are you reading these, most of the ones I found have stopped at 384, one has 385, and there's a 386 that looks like it was put together in 1990. You gotta stop reading ahead into shitty translations, your posts are all spoilers for me now!!!

The development of a gentle, warm relationship between a bookstore owner and a high-school student.

I recently re-read this one to get a refresher so I thought I should advertise it do something here. And it reminded me of why I like it so much. It’s adorable, fluffy slice of life, plain and simple. Most chapters follow the same basic <situation -> emotional payoff> structure, usually involving some previously unknown fact or characteristic of the titular character (who is awesome btw). Very relaxing, is how I’d sum it all up. The art is fantastic as well. If you’re looking for fast romance, or any at all, look elsewhere. Yeah, there’s lots of blushing and crushing, but it’s more about the sweetness than the romantic aspect (so far). In the end though, I don’t feel like it takes anything away.
