There's just something incredibly fascinating about the worlds that Sayman creates. As morbid and surreal as they can be, a quality put into even starker relief for how normal those who live in those worlds seem to treat their circumstances, there's a certain warmth to his work that makes them seem oddly inviting that reaches not just through the stories themselves, but the presentation. Nickelodeon is a library of those worlds, vaguely connected not just in its' thin, overarching narrative, but in its' themes. Romance, relationships, and loss form the core of most of the manga's stories, all told under a thoughtfully demented lens.

Long story short, Nickelodeon is funny, heartwarming, and macabre all at the same time, and somewhere in that twilight zone between all three, it's strangely insightful.

I'll be starting Oddman 11 now, but with Nickelodeon finally out of the way, I'm not really reading anything new anymore. Anyone have some manga recs? Preferably something similar to Dowman Sayman's stuff, since I'm on a bit of a kick right now, but I'd welcome any good romance or comedy recs, too. Anything except for battle shounen and gritty seinen, really. Not really in the mood for those right now!

Well there's always Dowman Sayman's smuttier works such as the Sexual Instinct series, which are kinda like Nickelodeon with porn. Otherwise, I feel Terrarium in Drawer and Ashizuri Aquarium are somwhat similar as far as short stories go.
