Marathon sounds promising and may be Sony’s next AAA multiplayer hit

An extraction shooter? The immediate reference is Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction which is available right now at 40$ goes much less on sales and it's F2P on gamepass. I'm sure there are tons of these type of games on PC right now.
Theres not many at all.

Also nothing like Rainbow sux.

DMZ was great fun although never fully realised, I think that and Hunt are the only ones on console? +Tarkov and a couple more on PC.

Whats happening here?
Confused Tucker Carlson GIF by GIPHY News

What is going on ?
Used to be, everyone knew how shitty Sony's multiplayer cash grabs would be month before the release date.
Doesn't anymore.
Now everyone thinks they're cool, and want rainbow haired space marines in their fast food games.
All thanks to the democratic party.

This game was so bad that they replaced its director not even a year ago, and now it's a hero shooter, a bit like that other game whose name I can't remember now.

Unless someone has a genius idea and innovates the genre somehow, Marathon will have a short run (sorry for the bad joke, there will be better ones upon release and CCU check)

The director got fired for harrasing the female staff and generally being a cunt. Fuck all to do with the game.

And is not a hero shooter. The avatars are more like Destinys Guardians.

I love the design, which is already a positive thing in a world of same-looking GaaS games.

And the game structure is not some random multiplayer game where you just keep doing the same thing over and over again. For me, that typically doesn’t play lots of multiplayer games; the concept is really interesting and I have not played an extraction game yet.

So, I'd say this has lots of potential.

You say that now…… but you gonna feel salt when they put them destiny style transactions in the game at every turn. I’d imagine they have even gotten better at that now….

I’ll be playing it when it comes out for sure. Hopefully I’m not spending hundreds on it like I was with destiny. It was the only way to really get any meat out of that game.

Destiny wasn't expensive, if you stayed away from the shop. I think it worked out at less than a tenner a month if you played all year.

COD in comparison is a similar price for a year. Again just stay away from the shop.

All they have to do is make a great game - people will automatically be interested in checking it out because of the Bungie name, so they don't have to spend time convincing people to try it like Concord. The comparisons between the two are completely brain-dead.

I’m thinking about all the expansions. I’ve bought them all. I stopped playing after last light.

Who? Only things I read online were laughing at it.
The OT was made back in April.

That means very little given Sony's recent AAA multiplayer failure, which had plenty of press telling people not to write it off. Until we see something, it's all just PR.
...could mean a lot given Sony's recent AAA multiplayer success (.e. Helldivers 2), if it is too early for people to call it a success (they're not — being hopeful, excited, does not = they are thinking it will automatically be a success), then surely it is also too early to simply "write it off" as you seem to be doing.

We might just have to take a "wait and see" approach.

Lol at people calling OP a Sony fan, he's anything but that.
Anyway, Concord comparisons here are dumb since, for starters, Marathon already has a much more appealing art direction.
People were hyping Concord before the reveal.
You were literally hyping up Concord AFTER the reveal, don't try to own anyone here, lol.

Just finished watching the latest video for Marathon and it sounds really promising. Apparently there will be PvE and PvP elements, and you’ll have to complete tasks and loots while trying to make your way out of hostile environment populated with AI enemies and other players. Also you can equip gears that will influence the players’ abilities. The gameplay sounds really intense and fun

Could potentially end up as Sony’s next successful AAA multiplayer game. I’ll be there day one
So, it sounds like every game that has launched after Tarkov lmao. How fresh and new! /s

If looter extractors are the new thing instead of battle royales, then bring back Titanfall 2’s Attrition mode and throw in some tasks and loot drops.

If Marathon plays anything like that (sadly minus the Titans) then it could be good.

Ten years though.

An expansion a year plus the season pass? £70 thats good value if you played all year, cheap even.

I mean yeah, I can’t say I did not get my moneys worth. The problem for me was when too much of the content had a similar grind loop. Not even new weapons can keep you playing after a while when the selection of activities just gets stale after a while. That’s when it starts to feel over prices to me.

They showed character designs and art, explained the overall concept, revealed PVE elements, upgrades, loot, etc.

They are also Bungie, one of the most successful FPS devs in the industry, not some start up.
Firewalk Studios was founded in 2018 by ProbablyMonsters, an independent AAA game company based in Bellevue, Washington: ProbablyMonsters Founded in 2016 by former Bungie CEO Harold Ryan

Can't even talk about Marathon or Bungie without mentioning Firewalk Studios.

Yeah but one is a start up with some industry vets, the other is an entire company with staff/culture/processes in place

I really like the art style from the trailer they showed, but probably need to see actual gameplay before suggesting it's going to be a hit lol

There is NO way it is gonna flop. Too much riding on Marathon and Bungie when their backs are against the wall, always delivers like clockwork.

And with even Sony heavily overlooking the project surely, It is going to be a massive success and I am still not gonna play it.

Well, Sony isn't heavily overlooking it as Bungie still has production autonomy.
The main difference for the past few months is that Bungie now reports to a game development supervisor (Hermen Hulst), instead to a real suit like Jim Ryan. But still, he's not that involved compared to actual PlayStation Studios productions, even those that are developed externally like Stellar Blade or Until Dawn.
