Marina Diamandis, better known by her stage name Marina and the Diamonds, is a Greek/Welsh singer-songwriter and is among the most talented young British artists around today. Two years after her top 5 debut album, her sophomore LP entitled ‘Electra Heart’ is just about ready to drop.

By the way, she's Marina, and we are the Diamonds.

Electra Heart is the persona/character/vehicle (whatever you want to call it) being used by Marina to explore female archetypes, of which there are four: Su-Barbie-A (housewife), Teen Idle (younger individual with no direction), The Primadonna (stars/beauty queens), and Homewrecker (self-explanatory).

Here's what Marina has to say about Electra Heart:

Electra Heart is the antithesis of everything that I stand for. And the point of introducing her and building a whole concept around her is that she stands for the corrupt side of American ideology, and basically that’s the corruption of yourself. WOULD YOU SAY YOUR PERSONAL STYLE HAS EVOLVED SINCE THE LAST RECORD?

Yeah, definitely. Especially as it’s almost like you’re just representing feminine character types. So even though you’re being yourself, the perceptions of these character types come from your own brain, it’s like a magnified version of each one, so like the homewrecker, or the teen idle or the primadonna. My style has changed hugely. Before I was inspired by Pop Art and loud clashing clothes, now I want everything to be so twee and pretty, because that’s what I’m excited by at the moment.

She's so pretty. I like Fear and Loathing, but for the most part I've preferred everything from her first album. Oh well. Grimes is scratching my pop itch at the moment, I have no need for Marina.

Oh, and I quite like the acoustic version of Primadonna.

i'd never admit to this IRL (gotta keep it G) but i love everything about this chick.
never thought she's step up the direction this much for the second album though
hope she blows up in the US.

I never did get around to properly listening to her first album.

Might do that at some point, I do remember that she had an interesting voice (bordering on annoying)

The whole concept of this album is beyond stupid, but I love Marina, so I've pre-ordered the deluxe edition.

I wonder if she can match her first.

Yeah, the song itself isn't awful (just extremely average for what I think Marina's capable of), but her voice in it is just blegh!

The reason Hermit the Frog is my favorite song is because of the way she sounds in it (especially around 1:49, "They say you used to be so kind, well baby I gave you your dirty mind" gives me shivers!)

Sucks that Primadonna is all we're getting before the album drops though :( When she gives, I want more, more, more.

I also want that deluxe edition holy shit. But $50? Come on, girl.

I like I Am Not A Robot. Although the re-jiggered versions they keep using in TV advertisements might be better than Marina's version...

I love Primadonna so much. Such a catchy and infectious pop track. Sucks I need to discover Marina when her album is a whole month away =(

Ran into her outside the Brixton Academy after the NME Awards (she presented). My girlfriend was super excited to get a picture with her.

Got to see her here in Austin on her last tour and it was amazing. Sad she doesn't have a return trip lined up yet. Really awesome that so many new folks will be exposed to her on the Coldplay tour.

Yeah, I'm super happy she'll be opening for them on their dates in Chicago! Maybe I'll be able to get a picture with her! My life would be over.

Blasphemy! I Am Not A Robot is an amazing song. Rootless is probably the worst. But then again, I don't dislike any of the songs on The Family Jewels. Rootless just happens to be the one I like the least.

It wasn't for a while! I was wondering if it had been deleted or moved. Was kinda freaking out... But I'm glad it's still up.

You could argue that her Electra Heart persona is just as contrived as Lana's persona... Although, Marina's music seems so much more authentic.

That remix isn't bad, but I'm really liking the BURNS remix. It's sounds like Burial sampling Primadonna.

Really bummed that I probably won't be able to see her live before the US album drop. Digging Primadonna though, song is bumpin.

She really needs to get rid off the blonde hair though.

Also is the US Store down for anyone else? Wanna get an Electra Heart shirt.

The first listens of both Homewrecker and Prima Donna were great. Love the beat in both, they're catchy and have a certain energy to them.

...but I grew tired of both surprisingly quick too. Perhaps there's not enough variation in either song to keep them interesting, I dunno...

Still looking forward to the album though.

I Am Not a Robot really is bad. It was the only song I'd skip when ever I listened to the album. her 'just a little BABY' line makes me cringe. And its just all round dumb.

Also, while I'm not a fan or anything I really dislike her new look. She was a lot hotter in the Mowglis Road video.

She ain't even coming to California on that Coldplay tour either. So I won't be seeing her for God knows how long.

The US Store isn't down for me. But all that's ever been in the US store is The Family Jewels and The American Jewels. All the cool stuff is in the UK store... for now.

I did get tired of Homewrecker after listening to it a lot so I'm taking a break until I get my hands on the album. But I've listened to Primadonna a lot more and still am not tired. Between the single version, acoustic version and the remixes, I'm set for a while.

Nooooooo. I Am Not A Robot was my theme song for a while. I just love the lyrics. Ok, so maybe it's not the best song melodically and musically, but the lyrics really got me.

I think she looked her best in the Hollywood video ("classic" beauty).
