The new Bowser's Castle is glorious, but the new Rainbow Road is surprisingly underwhelming. I do appreciate the unique space-station setting, and I dig the Blooper starship in the background, but the rainbow colors of the track are so mild, and the presentation in general (lighting, particle effects, etc) is weak next to some of the other tracks. Ah well.

Yeah, I have the same feeling but maybe it'll shine when you actually race on it.

It's not bad, it's just weaker and not as dramatic as many of the other tracks.

I love this car design. : )

Apologies for the GIF quality (does anyone know how to make LICEcap use Dithering?)

They can put a big sticker in the box!!! FREE GAME. LIMITED TIME ONLY !

Plus they need tv commercials of course.

I could see some really nice commercials if they do it Tropical Freeze style. A quick live action thing with a awesome quick scene montage at the end while the announcer makes some snips about the game. Throw in the theme music in the background.

I had a similar reaction. I had imagined space backgrounds to look like something out of the galaxy series. Ill wait to see how fun it is.

Also..ign mentioned there was another gamepad feature to be revealed, has this been mentioned yet?

Saved for DLC so that the game isn't a fall release I guess?

Either that or the reasoning was to appeal to oldskool gamers and the Wii crowd. Wii had a lot of babies, and that ended well. Oldskool crowd gets all the Koopalings, who everyone's always excited for.

They've actually cut many characters coming from the Wii version to this one. Drybones, DryBowser, Birdo, Diddy Kong, Funky Kong, King Buu and even Bowser Jr.

Best looking game ever! Listened to the soundtrack and it's absolutely amazing, they really went all out with this MK, I can't wait to get my hands on it.

The galaxy tinges in Mario Kart Wii Rainbow Road and the pan flutes in Mushroom Gorge were awesome.

Yep, but I felt they were the exception rather than the rule. Mario Kart 7's soundtrack, IMO, was completely underwhelming. In Mario Kart 8, every music track seems pretty damn great!

Haven't read every post in the thread, but I feel I'm probably echoing most opinions when I say: Damn this looks gorgeous.

It's not just the tracks, but the variety and detail of the karts is amazing. I mean, I shouldn't be getting this excited and interested in the 8th iteration of a kart racing game.

Also, glad to see Nintendo's leaning in to the whole 'super weird and offbeat' side they seem to have developed recently. I guess they're just doubling down on being somewhat 'niche' in the current market.

Part of the reason I'm kinda disappointed with the new RR is that when Nintendo hyped it up as something special, I had all sorts of crazy ideas for what they could do.
This seems kinda plain, and short.

This right here is exactly why I love directs - they just record these in quiet and release tons of news out of nowhere.

I'm going to reward myself so hard with this for having done well on my exams. :p

Yeah Mario Kart 8 has blown all that away.

EDIT: Man I hope SNES Mario circuit is in as a retro stage. That music is just so catchy.

The gamepad has a built in microphone right? Or would this finally be the day when I get to use that turtle beach headset again? Havent used it since Monster Hunter 3 U.

I'm really surprised they went all out with the soundtrack, considering Mario Kart music hasn't been great since MK64! I'm loving the soundtrack so far.
This is so unfair to MKWii's soundtrack. Man, Asuka Ota gets such a bad wrap!

There are some brilliant, funky, creative, memorable, well varied and well suited tunes:

- Moo Moo Meadows
- Mushroom Gorge
- Toad's Factory
- DK Summit
- Wario's Gold Mine
- Daisy Circuit
- Koopa Cape
- Maple Treeway
- Moonview Highway
- Bowser's Castle
- Rainbow Road

to name only the cream of the crop.

I just hope the cycles arent imbalanced compared to the karts. Maybe they should've made specific cycle circuits? I remember there being something about cycles and constant wheelies dusting everyone.
