Mario Kart 8 DLC |OT| DLC done right

I'll also join in the race with you guys tonight. Gonna check the OP real quick to see how to join the lobby, but if it's not there, can someone guide me through the steps?

I don't care what people say about the WiiU or Nintendo.
Right now Nintendo is in a beast mode with their 1st party titles and just released the best dlc ever =D (imo)

Amen to that. Nintendo may be lttp when it comes to online, but god do they put to shame all the industry when they arrive.

I've been smiling all day playing this dlc.

My review of the 8 DLC tracks.

GCN Yoshi Circuit - A lot of sharp corners. There's no antigrav and at least from an initial sweep, no gliding section either (though, could be wrong)

Excitebike Arena - It's Baby Park with randomized hills. It's a lot longer to accommodate 12 players without any significant overlap with last place racers. The random layout. It may get a little too boring in Time Trials since the track doesn't change layout.

Dragon Driftway - Aside from one obvious shortcut I saw near the beginning, it's a very straight forward course. The theme is charming though, it doesn't really sway me either way.

Mute City - This one I was a little bit worried about because I didn't know how F-Zero would mesh into Mario Kart gameplay. It works rather well. The elliptical curve of the track, complete antigrav, and constant speed boosts make for one hell of a Mario Kart track.

Wii Wario's Gold Mine - It's like a roller coaster. There's at least two shortcuts that are relatively easy to pull of. Wario's sitting on some prime real estate.

SNES Rainbow Road Flat simple. Feels a bit wider than the 3DS version. The Thwomps create more of a ripple of the track.

Ice Ice Outpost To me, it's the weakest of the bunch. Track splits I've seen in a few core tracks and some of the shortcuts take practice.

Hyrule Castle Fan service. Rupees and other Zelda style sound effects are a nice touch. The track's puzzle is haven't been able to pull of myself but it's easy to piggyback from other racers. Parts of it reminded me of Moo Moo Meadows and Twisted Mansion fused together.

Hyrule Castle, Mute City, and Wario's Gold Mine are my favorite of the bunch. Everything else except Ice Ice Outpost is really good.

Right, I've now got all the new DLC music that's been directly ripped from the software, converted and uploaded:

mute city: https://soundcloud.com/richisawesome/pbgm-wu-mutecity-n

dragon: https://soundcloud.com/richisawesome/pbgm-wu-dragonroad-n

mute city results: https://soundcloud.com/richisawesome/fzero-reslut-wuaa32dspadpcm

rainbow road: https://soundcloud.com/richisawesome/pbgm-sfc-rainbowroad-n

hyrule: https://soundcloud.com/richisawesome/hyrule-track-mario-kart-8

ice ice track: https://soundcloud.com/richisawesome/pbgm-wu-icepark-n

excitebike: https://soundcloud.com/richisawesome/excite (FIXED IT)

again, these are ripped and converted from the files inside the DLC itself. It's far superior to what you were all listening to on youtube as it's not a shitty line out recording.

my stuff is the real deal, yo. just listen to that quality.

Your username is fitting for your post.

Yep, exactly this.
Is fun, is frantic and the music is amazing. Nailing the jumps is so freaking fun!

But then you see half of the group choosing random isntead of it, wtf guys, I chose your shitty dragon circuit that you love so much becuase i know you would like to play it, dont be dicks.
You talkin' about Excite Bike Arena? 'Cause when I played WWs earlier, I've had times where the vote for that track was unanimous.

Yoshi Circuit also had an 11 out of 12 vote for it, but of course the game picked Grumble Volcano because Yoshi Circuit is my favorite track in the entire series. Always has been, probably always will. Dragon Driftway is a close second though.

Yo, jc, I don't know how you manage to avoid us from going to Yoshi Circuit, but keep doing that.

And yo, don't think I didn't see what you were planning on doing.

EDIT: Why didn't you guys get a red shell and destroy the green shells I had? Instead every one of them were destroyed by things lying around or bats.

Hey guys! I was Captain Falcon for all those races. Whoever was Samurai Goroh, thanks for being awesome and playing along.

And thanks for always choosing Mute City unanimously every time. This is why I love GAF.

It's rather easy, just quote the OP and find the codes hidden under the "Tournaments" section.
There are 4 tournaments, right now we're playing in the first two.

same here. Me and my brother had both goose bumps when the zelda theme started. lol

How do I play online with DLC tracks?

Edit: the new tracks just show up sometimes. Wonder if for people who didnt buy too.

$12 for 50% more tracks in a $60 game is a solid deal, despite my dislike of the fact the DLC cannot be resold.

If someone in the room didn't buy the DLC, nobody in the room can play the DLC tracks.

uh, I didn't. they're in the files (when you're in first, they play).

so blame nintendo, yeah? I would go through and fix it, but I can't be fucked.

After you converted the original files to .wav you have to extract the first two audio channels only. I don't have the original files of the dlc so I cant test that, but that worked well for the "normal" MK8 Soundtrack. My script:

Code:
for /F "tokens=* delims=." %%i in ('dir /B *.wav') do (
    ffmpeg -i "%%i" -map_channel 0.0.0 -map_channel 0.0.1 -aq 1 -channel_layout stereo "%%i.mp3"
)
pause
exit

Not really. Put that code into a batch file, put the batch file in the folder with all .wav and start it. After a few moments all songs are "corrected". Should go faster as to do that with every single track in audacity :p

I hope that in a future update, Nintendo allows us to upload 60FPS replays to YouTube. I'm over here about to upload something fun and find it so jarring seeing it all in 30FPS.

On another note, the single coolest visual touch on Rainbow Road SNES is how the characters are mostly dark with all the light in the stage coming from the rainbow panels under themselves. It creates this really dreamy atmosphere that I never really thought about until I saw my replays from the earlier GAF matches I had.

The second coolest is actually seeing Dinosaur Island (SMW) under the stage. (RRSNES is the Star World?)
