I saw it yesterday and my theater was packed to the brim. Like there was like less than 10 available seats when I bought the tickets, and this was an imax showing so it was 17 bucks a ticket.

Very interesting.

A great example of "your experience isn't every experience"

Anecdotal isn't "majority "

My showing was packed, but I doubt this does much better than Cap 4 at the box office.

Great movie btw. Audience loved it. Felt like old MCU. Ghost is my waifu.

My showing was about 15% full.

I liked it, but its a filler film with no real direction or stakes other than basically reintroducing characters.

Bit at least it had a fairly coherent narrative, reasonably logical flow of events, and decent action without sloopy cg.

Yeah I saw some reviews saying bad cgi but it all looked completely fine to me. Black Widow and Black Panther had shit cgi, this did not.

I was enjoying the movie. No spoilers I think, but I did feel like it ended kinda abrupt? I dunno, just seemed like a weird note to end on. It left me feeling a little unsure, even though I think I liked the movie overall.

Surprisingly positive reception both critically and by fans. I'm probably gonna see this over the weekend.

Just watched it. I liked it a lot. There was more focus on characters rather than action. The story tackles more mature themes than your normal MCU which I greatly appreciated. And its not filled with juvenile humor either. The post credit scene was also a fun tie in. Its been a while since I got excited about MCU tie ins, so this was a pleasant experience overall.

Yeah absolutely, I really like they kept the humor "adultish"

I saw the movie on Thursday. It was fun.

I really feel like, after the major flops of the past few years, Marvel tried to go back to its classic formula with Captain America: Brave New Worlds and this one.

The result is that it works pretty well and the movie is often very funny, but it's also very conventional and some parts don't make much narrative sense.

A fun movie, but a notch below Brave New Worlds in my opinion.

As long as its Disney, I won't stop asking.
it's not illegal to ask, those posters are being chops, Disney are good at hiding the nonsense from trailers so i don't blame you.

I haven't seen the movie myself but I've also not heard any rumblings about obvious activism or nonsense.

by all accounts it seems the movie might be one of the best things marvel has put out in a long long time.

This isn't a filler film. This is setting up major pieces for the next event film.

In fact all 3 of the movies this year are doing this.

It was better than what I thought it would be. What the critical drinker said in review was on spot, but I don't tend to take marvel movies too seriously - so it didn't bother me too much. Bob guy was also amazing.

I mean, Captain America: Brave New World was labeled "woke" by certain individuals despite the film having no opinionated political elements to it, so forgive me if some of us are tired of hearing a cheap buzzword that has increasingly lost any concrete meaning to it as time progresses.

I really don't care, the persons allowed to ask and they are allowed a normal human response.

these resetera non posts are just a waste.

rather tell them it's not woke then act like a chop

If most or all of the responses DON'T say anything about "woke" (like from Jason or others) after having seen it, then the question is not valid... It's just looking for something to rage about.

so is it really difficult to just say to the person it isn't

He didn't need to be told it when ALL of the responses before him (from people who are like minded) never even mentioned the term. The absence of the term tells you all you need to know.

At this point, it's become an annoyance to ask in all these movie threads AFTER folks are commenting upon seeing it.

-telling someone to stop isn't literally telling them they're "not allowed", stop being so overdramatic

-hey, more cheap buzz words! "I don't like opinion, therefore you're _______"

-and it's a tell-tale sign how weak the foundation of one's argument is if they have to insult the person

Like, seriously, you didn't even argue against what I said, you just went, "OMG, leave him alone", and then you called me a….."chop", yeah, I had to Google that one for a bit, never heard anyone use that expression and even Google took a while to help me find it

But hey, I'll stop, because clearly you're incapable of actually arguing against anything I said. Have a nice day, sweetie.

So it's beyond the capabilities of you two to just simply answer a simple question like normal people?

Even without having seen it yet, the movie is "woke" so long as one's individual persecution complex is a high enough level to see it as "woke". There, there's your answer.

Again, and for the last time, if he read the responses his question would be answered. Especially from posters like Jason and others. THEY didn't mention it, ergo there wasn't any of this fearful term.

Simple deductive reasoning.

all the person did was ask if it was woke.

i don't understand why it's so difficult to just respond to the question like a normal person.

Alot of gaffers have become insufferable lately with this.

just tell them yes or no, why be such a chop :messenger_tears_of_joy:

it's question, that's literally the point of a question is to ask something.

do you never ask questions in your life and solely rely on deductive reasoning?

I still don't understand why simply saying "no it isn't" is the worst thing you could have possibly done, how your life would be in shambles by just answering.

For the past few years a lot of media discussion seems to get diverted into people talking about the extent to which something is or isn't woke. I think a lot of people are getting tired of that kind of thing. So if there's a lack of interest in engaging with that question then I think that might be why.

all the person did was ask if it was woke.

Ah yes, the "I'm just asking questions" defense. Funny, conspiracy theorists hide behind this same tactic.

As Deaf has pointed out several times now, several posters showed no indication they found the movie "woke" and knowing this forum, someone would have been whining about it if they had found it "woke", never mind the loose qualification of what makes a film "woke". So there was no reason to ask if one had taken even the minimal effort to scroll through the past 50 posts.

Then surely saying nothing and ignoring would be the best thing to do?

I just don't understand the aggressive chop behaviour over a simple question by others.

I mean do you not actually see how unhinged you are acting, I'm almost feeling the need to ask if everything is ok for you at the moment?

how would you personally have been affected if you had just answered the person normally? what would have been the dreaded outcome that you had expected?

did you think you were going to get banned? did you think the person was going to come stalk you? like what was the horrendous outcome in your head that you had that made you rather act like an unhinged person then simply saying no it isn't or ignoring the message altogether?

Dude, you are literally the one who escalated this because you took me and Deaf saying "stop" as an actual attempt at imposing some sort of imaginary authority.

Also, got to love how you ignore our rational explanation as to why asking if the film is "woke" was unnecessary (because it would have been brought up beforehand in the thread already), but rather just ramble nonsensically hoping desperately any of what you're saying makes even the bare amount of sense.

So to you, I also say:

Stop It Michael Jordan GIF

Not literally forbidding you with some imaginary authority I don't have, because apparently you need that clarified for you.

Probably so. I've generally tried to steer clear of culture war discussions here recently. I just thought I'd suggest why some people might be reluctant to engage seriously with that topic.

If someone wants to ask about wokeness then they're free to. But others are just as free not to take the question seriously if they don't want to. As I said, I think there's fatigue around culture war stuff.

Calling someone unhinged when they're explaining something is kinda gaslighting because, as was mentioned directly to you, many GAFfers are tired seeing "woke" in every movie thread. HE was the only one who brought it up... If like-minded people aren't bringing it up , then why ask? Not one person has accused the movie of being "woke"

Not to mention that the definition seems to change based on who's speaking.

Ok, that's the last time.

What are you talking about, escalation like you are at war,

Seriously is everything ok with you? genuine question.

I understand people not wanting to engage with it of course, it's more the weird gaf bullying we have seen lately from people who go from 0 - 100 Like Doom clearly is exhibiting.

like it just makes this place for others when there's a group who explode at literally everything.

Honestly... all im seeing is two bullies covering up for each other.

So you genuinely don't think that just simply answering a question, even if it's one you don't like. Is the better choice?

This was my response to that person
I haven't seen the movie myself but I've also not heard any rumblings about obvious activism or nonsense.

can you point to the issues?

Why should i be banned or have my hands cut off or whatever weird punishment fits the crime of just treating someone else with a bit of decency??

Hey Deaf, could you imagine a version of Neogaf where simply posting a Michael Jordan gif apparently equates "bullying" and "exploding at literally everything"?

Glad we don't have that problem, and this forum isn't filled with overdramatic individuals who try to gaslight others into thinking THEY'RE the drama queens. Because that would be, you know, REALLY obnoxious.

It's kinda perplexing. I'm having a donut. You want one?

I don't think it's bullying or people exploding at each other. Can people go a little over the top at times? Sure, but that's message boards. Obviously there's a line where it can become unacceptable but a lot of the time we're just talking shit to each other and shooting from the hip. It's not that big a deal. You're calling people chops, which is a term I'm not familiar with but I'm assuming isn't a term of endearment. But I don't think you're doing so with any type of malice, right? It's just posting.

You say this bullying is something we've seen lately. So is it something you think has developed more recently? Is it particularly around culture war stuff? If so maybe it's just more that sense of people getting tired of the "is it woke?" focus. But I don't think there's been any big change recently.

Regarding the end credits scene:

I like these new Avengers waaaaay more than Sam's, which I assume will include Shang Chi, She Hulk, and Captain Marvel (I didnt see her new movie but I assume she is alive and still has her powers).

I guess I would add in America Chavez since apparently she has been on the Thunderbolt roster before, but they're likely saving her for a gorl powah teamup with Kate Bishop & Ms. Marvel :(

At any rate I am happy we will see these dorks again in Doomsday. Some are inevitably gonna get killed off but this team had a good movie and a half run :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I mean i appreciate that you are trying to be a level-headed with this. A chop is a south African term for someone acting a bit silly, it's not endearing but it's also not a derogatory term. If i dropped a pot of food in front of everyone they'd call me a chop and i'd call myself a chop.

But is this not just proving my point?

all of this because simply just responding to another poster with decency was apparently impossible to do, because they are on a side of a culture war and the poster is on the other.
