I'm into it mostly because I think the world look really full of detail and looks fun to just explore. The combat gameplay looks pretty simple and could be shit but my flatmate is so desperate for a good Marvel story game I think I can enjoy it purely with joint in mouth and brain off + get that 2nd hand joy of his from being in the world and meeting all these characters he knows.
Is that good or bad?
Probably not tbh, I hope so though. I also need to know I can turn those health bars off, makes it look like an MMO.

Dude is over complicating it, and they've slowed down footage, mashing like a fool at random things will probably net you a win. Previews are to promote sales, these are sales tactics.
Also this game will probably turn to pure shit when you actually have to quickly react to different enemy types and your AI companions are too busy intimately fucking a wall.
IF any preview has convinced you to buy this mess, WAIT UNTIL REVIEWS COME OUT, and THEN READ THEM THROUGHLY don't just take the number score READ the actual negatives presented so you find out if there's padding in that score.

I had far less problem with the character design (except drex) and more with the graphic\confusion on screen\actual combat, it looks messy and not in a good way.
It looks like the arenas are too small for all the shit that happen on screen...

Visually it looks good, outside of the sloppy animation.
I'm cautiously intrigued.
Although in the footage in the OP, WTF is wrong with Gamora's gait? Why does she walk like she's suffering from rickets?
They need to sort out the anatomical proportions of her design so that it meshes better with the animation data.

The game overall still reminds of some Ps3 era movie tie in game. Not necessarily bad, but something I'd pick up for no more than $20 if it isn't on Gamepass by then.
The art direction is also really ugly, not necessarily the character models but just the boring environments with low saturated colors and the ugly life bars on all enemies.

Everything looks pretty good to me, except the Guardians themselves. They all look and animate poorly. Also, all their lines (that I've heard) fall flat, especially Quill's.

Not this again... I'm really sad that today people immediatly see lock-on systems as "easy" modes.
It just really depends on how the game was designed, a lot of games in the past, like ps2 era, used to be like this and had great gameplay. If the gameplay is designed with the auto-aim / lock-on system in mind, then it can be good, because the challenge / focus will be on your movements, ennemies patterns, combos and such, instead of aiming, I personally find this much more interesting than the usual cover shooter third person games...

I dismiss it because every bit of story has seemed uninteresting and full of boring dialouge, There was a chance I would get it for combat alone since it felt like it had a hint of FF7:R but seeing more it just looks boring. Just because people don't like something you like doesn't mean there's some console war conspiracy going on.

If a game's perspective is oriented towards your aim then it's kind of a drag when it aims for you. It was great for things like classic Resident Evil and Devil May Cry since you couldn't possibly aim reliably in those games otherwise. But if a game is going to insist I play more or less from the character's perspective then I at least want to take advantage of it.

I really don't think it's a matter of camera, it just really depends on the game style. Like for example, there's been this thread recently about the game "WET", and that game is a very acrobatic game where you can wall run, slide and such, and to be able to do that while aiming manually, the game uses a slow motion / bullet time system, because it's just not possible to pull of those crazy acrobatic moves while aiming manually, especially with a controller. And using slow motion is really not the best way to deal with this imo, so in such game, I think having a gameplay where you can do all kind of great moves with your characters, and focusing on these instead of just... standing there and aiming, is more interesting.
It's a matter of gameplay, it's not because you're using guns that it has to play like a "shooter", you could have gun but have a game that plays like melee, with combos etc, but instead of using your fists / melee weapons, you're using ranged weapons. The idea that everything involving guns has to play the same way is kind of sad I think.
It's not like aiming manually with a controller offers much sensations anyway. That's why most games third person games are actually cover shooter, this system was created to balance the lack of aim speed with controllers in the first place, so you could prepare your aim before actually aiming. Having a system with an auto-lock where you have to dodge ennemies attack, pull off different kind of moves, build up combos and such can offer more variety than just aiming while hiding behind a box.
