In dairy at least the issue will be when lock down is over. How long is a farmer going to keep dumping milk before culling cows? It takes two years to raise replacement heifers.By the way, in regards to the "food shortages" fears, companies actually have more food to throw away than they can grow.

I personally do not believe we are going to be "short" on food. The problem will be in the less well off Countries.
Other thoughts: Bad weather. Labour shortages. Getting crops into the ground is delayed due two a combination of the two. Later and slower harvest. All possibilities.

The problem is the supply line. Lots of foods you eat are not made locally. Whats going to happen when your country imports fruits/veggies/meat and that country closed down its packaging plants, or is stopping exports?
And then you also have non staple items. Grain/Eggs/Meat these things could probably still be sourced locally, but lots of crap we take for granted won't be around. I can imagine things like chocolate bars, cookies, frozen dinners etc.... could all wind up being in short supply.
In the west we probably are a few months away from rations of bread and rice, but like you said poorer countries are going to be in bigger trouble.
But if everyone is in lockdown there is no way that food supply chains are not going to effected. How does a farmer get his cow t to the slaughter house, get it slaughtered, then packaged, and then distributed if everyone is in lockdown.

I have about 8 months of food supplies ready to go so if it goes that way I'm good. Also been helping others to get their emergency stock built up. Local cash and carry sells big bags of rice, frozen chicken etc so I'm good for as long as I need to be.
Fingers crossed it won't be required.

The hospital bed numbers look bad, but that is because they've been hospitalising every one infected. Mild symptoms, no symptoms. They really should've just been told to stay home. iirc they are/were already moving people in Tokyo or something to hotels.

The JPN version of that has been up for a while - I think Tokyo and Aichi were at 110% capacity not too long after / before the Olympics got postponed.
Anyway it is the ICU/ventilator etc numbers that you gotta worry about.
I've yet to see ANYONE explain how you keep people locked up until a vaccine is available in 2021. Explain it. Explain how they do it in REALITY. There's no vaccine this autumn. It's at least 18 months away. Thinking you can keep people locked up without any way to make rent or buy food will result in the entire country dying.

It's 12-18 months from the trials, which have just started. There won't be a vaccine that's widely available until sometime in 2021.

Its because you cant. The best bet we have is the antibody study so people can start going back to work and we start moving to isolating vulnerable people. Either that, or one of these therapy studies bear fruit early, becomes widely available, and drastically cuts down the chances of people needing hospital care.
The economy will plummet to depths never seen before if people stay locked up till 2021

Ah no. Fauci has been one of the most clear voices when it comes to addressing the current state of affairs. I think a lot of people are trying to create a division between him and Trump. Most notably, the pathetic attempt around the hydroxychloroquine disagreement. Fauci is a medical professional, he has to temper expectations until the data is in; Trump is free to voice his optimism about it. I dont see how these two views are incompatible but, according to the press, its completely mixed messaging

Doesn't help that I just beat HL: Alyx two days ago and the photo in that Tweet made me initially think they were making a joke about wearing masks like the Combine forces of Half-Life. Anyway...I mean yeah, advanced face masks could be useful although I wonder how feasible they really are. They certainly wouldn't be cheap lol.

I think the rona is taking an Easter break in the country where I live, less than a 100 cases yesterday and it's looking like similar numbers today.
Here in New York cases plummeted as soon as it started warming up. Like it happened instantly. Because... it's just the flu, bro.
If anyone thinks that people are going to accept being locked down in the summer months when we have zero new cases every day they are nuts. You can already see the opinion of this starting to turn.

To be fair, we have been under 300 new cases per day for more than a week now, fluctuating but with a downward trend. It was just amazing to see it under 100 yesterday and probably today. Better weather helped for sure, but where I live is one of the countries that locked down the quickest and things are slowly beginning to come back.
