So yeah, playing through Mass Effect 1 makes me realize ....well I really don't want to at this point and I wanna go ahead and DL ME2 on Steam.
I mean, is the character import really that substantial? I beat ME1 only like a few months ago, so all of the events/story is still fresh in my mind, so I certainly don't need a refresher in that regard.

Sure I regret deleting my prior save but I had an ultimately ugly female Shepard anyway (see my thread on GAF about it lol)

You can change your face even after you import, before the game really begins.

Is any of the day 1 DLC delayed? I don't see a character that I am supposed to get in my Cerebrus network.

Also for those who got all the free DLC when Microsoft let them out couple of days ago, are you guys able to use them all?

EDIT: Found the answer for my 1st question in OP. So yeah, its not released yet.

Question about keeping your team intact.
what's the best way to make sure that nobody dies on the suicide mission?
Keeping everyone loyal? Does it matter who you pick for what team? How fast you do the mission? I lost 3 people in the first 2 parts so decided to go back and level up some more.

Well .. here's what I did ..

- All loyal
- In the argument scenes chose paragon answers that satisfied both people
- All ship upgrades (besides medical bay)
- Legion in the tube (because his profile says he's an awesomexor tech user)
- Miranda in charge of fire team
- Miranda in charge of distraction team (again)
- Samara as the biotic shield generator
- Tali as the escort for the Normandy crew
- Samara and Garrus as my final two
- Reaper tech destroyed (dont know if it matters)
and all was well.

Not sure if level matters. Loyalty does though.
Plus you need to make sure and pick the best people for each job. Legion in the tubes, Jacob leading the teams, Samara with the biotic shield and Garrus escorting the survivors. I did it this way and lost no one.
legion in the tubes died for me

why the hell didn't you put a tech guy in the tube? Do you hate Jacob lol

Garrus can lead too - I had him lead twice actually... I didn't trust Miranda to lead shit since many of my crew didn't like her. Morinthe pulled massive weight for me though. I had Jacob escort the survivors back.
like i said second playthrough I put a GETH in the tubes and it still died.
also you can get Samara's daughter in your squad?, awesome!

there has to be other stuff in play
besides who you picked, like the paragon/renegade meter (which i messed up because I was 20% renegade and couldn't satisfy jack argument

It worked for me Hawk. I saw the Normandy DLC download when I signed on..

Thanks for letting me know. When you logged in, did you automatically get logged into the Cerberus network though? This is really weird. Well EA should see that I have 2 Cerberus codes linked to my account, so one of them they should be able to reset and give me a new code or something.

All of you with the CE... I hate you.

Best Buy has them in stock. I ordered mine this morning for in store pickup on the way home. Gamestop screwed us over by cutting off the pre-order for the CE so soon. I'm not paying them money to mange their inventory. I had my regular edition reserved there and got the pre-order code in advance since my store screwed me on the L4D2 pre-order item (i.e. baseball bat). But I'll give that edition to a friend and enjoy the CE. I have the CE for the first game and CE strategy guide as well. I'm a sci-fi RPG whore, and I'm all about Mass Effect!

How is all the disc swapping stuff for the 360 version. I would install it but I have a 20 gb. And now there's pretty much no way besides a new console to get a larger hard drive.

Son of a bitch!
I went to buy some stuff and bought a whole bunch of stuff at the kiosks at my first stop and didn't talk to any of the clerks first only to find out if you had talked to the clerks first you could persuade them to give you a discount.
FUCK!!!

Also, holy hell does
Garrus get FUCKED up. at first I thought I somehow got him killed right off the bat and wouldn't even get to recruit him. Hilarious that you get to make fun of his face though:lol

I imagine there's a hidden affinity meter that's tracking your general conversations with your party members too besides the obvious "do quest, become loyal" thing, I was playing full paragon and generally speaking to all my party members after each mission with all positive replies.

edit : how do you make sure
kelly stays alive ? because she was pretty brutally liquified for me in a cutscene with me having no control over it. Is it even possible to save her ?

why are the pc graphics settings so limited? It's almost like the game scales the graphics to match your hardware, there no texture settings etc...

Is there anywhere you can find a small but good summary of Mass Effect 1's story? I did finish it, but that was a couple of months ago, so most of the story is blurry and I don't want to miss any references in Mass Effect 2. I would play through ME1 again...if I had the time xD

I got a problem guys, I finished my first playthrough of Mass Effect ended up with level 49. So I went back to the save before ILOS and did more quests and got my character to level 50 and beat it again. Now when I try to import my save, it shows up in 3 different files 49, 49 and another 50. However my 50 is not accessible, it says the 49 one is 'Valid mission complete files', while the other two are in orange, cant access them.

Anyone knows why?

agreed. I did talk to mostly everyone after each mission with full paragon, its the main dialog that sometimes I just couldn't answer paragon (its not so black and white like me1)
I had enough paragon to solve legion/tali's argument but not jack/miranda

as for
kelly I saved her and the crew in the collector base before the second mission

my bad, I literally edited it within 15 seconds of posting... its not really a spoiler considering it could never happen, as for the samara thing not sure thats even correct

She was alive for me. Didn't really have to do anything, I did talk to her after every mission though. Didn't wait around either, maybe that makes a difference.

There were two free DLC packs available. I got the crash pack but couldn't download the other with the extra character. It kept giving me an error.

Love the new Normandy. Captain's qaurters are pimp.
it does appear that Mass Effect 2 features 2x MSAA anti-aliasing too.

I thought this was indeed the case. V-sync and no pop-in is well appreciated Bioware. Nailed it this time around.

Should I install both discs on 360 or not?

I did and I don't really see any cons otherwise. No disc spinning is a good thing plus likely better load times.

IGN's 5 minute video summary is alright (from what I remember);

Can't believe the amount of hoops you have to jump through just to redeem your pre-order bonus. But it did work ok for me. Terminus armor and blackstorm gun downloaded ok after redeeming all the codes and logging into everything.

I would. It won't break or anything, but it will save you the hassle of having to install it after you do the disc swap.

I played Magna Carta 2 over winter break and it was annoying once I hit the second disc. There wasn't a save point for at least 30 minutes, so I had to listen to the fan/drive go supersonic and finally exit the game just to install it. Doing it beforehand would have prevented all that.

If I couldn't get Jack to trust me from the argument, is their no way of getting her trust?
That's kind of lame.

Wasn't sure if I should spoiler or not, so I did

It won't show from the main menu since it's not linked to your EA account but in-game the items are there.

Square needs to step their game up. Bioware and Bethseda have been putting out great games.

Meh,Square-Enix never was that good. :p They were very good around 1997-2000,but let's be honest and admit that most of us were clueless to wrpg back then. There's no way I would of found the FF stories anywhere near great if I had knew about the existence of Bioware or Black isles.

The difference is that Square-enix lost their way and my guess is: blame the new talent or those who replaced the founders. It's still amaze me that SE can't make a decent secret of mana game to save their lives. :lol

Got my CE,but I still do not have my terminal armor+weapon code and I'm pissed. My guess is that the demand is stronger than anticipated? Should have my black hole gun by tomorrow at worst. :lol

My run:
Legion in the tube (thought about Tali). Jacob led second party. Grunt took survivors back while Samara did the shield and Miranda led group 2. 0 Casualties. All were loyal, if that mattered.

Uhhhhhhhhhh.

While Square and Enix did release some good games in 1997-2000, that's far from the heyday.

Final Fantasy IV-VI, Dragon Quest V (hope VI gets translated soon), Chrono Trigger?

These are fantastic games. So yes, Square, and Enix were that good at one point.

Actually, the timeframe you're talking about is not when people should have been "clueless" about the efforts of Western RPG developers...

Fallout came out in 1997, BG came out in 1998, Torment in 1999...

That's your Black Isle heyday; though it's not as if there wasn't anything decent on the market for the D&D crowd before that.

Yeah, I installed both before I started.

Am now on my first full stretch of not playing ME2 since getting it.

It hurts bad.

About the waiting around:
Not waiting around is the difference -- if you defer saving them to make prepartions, the rest of the crew gets aced, I believe. When I did it, I only had Dr. Chakwas survive.

Miranda is hot.

Also, I'm so happy I avoided the hype thread. So tempting not to, but still happy. I didn't even know this game would have ammo. :lol

Fucking awesome, Mass Effect 2. First mission after the prologue and I have to re-load a save because of a glitch. I chose the top save, assuming it was my autosave, and of course I was wrong. Instead, that was the start of the mission, and immediately upon loading it up it rewrote my autosave. Great first impression, seriously.

Also, had to reload the save earlier because I forgot who the hell Udina and Anderson were. It's been since 2007 when I accessed the save, I'm really expected to remember that detail?
